Help please!
My previously faultless QX recently broke down: it will not idle, the engine runs when the accelerator is used ( the car is auto ), My local garage has identified the fault as the idle control valve or stepper motor which they've tried to clean out to no avail. They tell me I need a new one, this cat although UK supplied is very rare , and garage tells me a new stepper motor will be £500 plus VAT. Haven't had a chance to explore the net yet. Has any body got any bright ideas or know how to source such an item without being fleeced?

Hi,
Has anyone purchased Atera roof bars and, if so, how do you rate them? I gather they make a lot of the manufacturers' roof bars and that the bars are made to fit each model exactly unlike, for example, Thule.
Thoughts?
Thanks,
T.

Hi,
A friends daughters car (99T Vx Corsa 12v 998cc) his refusing to start totally out of the blue since other morning. You can turn on the starter but it does not fire. He has done basic testing and is saying there is no fuel and spark present at cranking.
Does anyone have any more ideas what to test so I can inform him please? Read more
4k is about right for a scanner, bear in mind that a scanner won't cover alll vehicles and he may have to spend the same again on another that covers other motors plus updates typically £400/600 a year but yes crank sensors are quiet common on these, Regards TB
I just compared my license to my wife's and there are quite a few entitlement changes.
I passed in 94 and the wife passed in dec 97.
It would appear from the dvla web site
that an extra test is needed to tow trailers / caravans on licenses after 1st Jan 97.
What is the extra test ?
Or have I miss-understood the requirements. Read more

Ooops, already posted, sorry.
Hi, can anybody help with info: I passed my test in 76 and have lost my license, I wondered if DVLA would have a record of it going back that far, or do I need to do
another test , if anyone can help I would be really gratefull Read more
Rattle, lost is lost. So he has to pay for a new one. And it will be a photo one. You cannot complete the change of address section for a free change on a lost licence can you.
hi all ....could anybody tell me the valve clearances for the 1.4 energy engine ...
i have a manual but its in french, now i wish i had of listened at school....

Unless the engine is REALLY noisy I'd warn against adjusting the tappets. These horrible little engines get really huffy if the clearances are even the slightest bit tight. If you must do them make sure that you dont pinch the feeler at all tightly.
im hoping that you peeps could help me out on a few things about bca.
1, can i just turn up and start bidding or do i have to pay to join ?
2, are all the cars that sold by bca hpi clear ?
3, what ID doe i have to take with me ?
4, what are the best sales to go to ?
5, does it state on the cars if they have servive history ?
thanks in advance Read more
I think the best thing you can do is visit BCA but not buy anything. Get a feel of the place, i think you'll find it confusing on your first visit, it's not for the inexperienced. i've been to a few but never felt comfortable enough to make a bid.
Hi,
Does anyone own the Caparo Rightfuel device which, from what I can make out, is a competitor to that device that was on Dragons Den last year to stop you putting petrol into a diesel?
Just wondering if anyone has purchased either of the devices - I think the DD one is now selling for £40 instead of the original £90 - and if anyone has compared the two of them?
Thanks,

ifithelps on a ford the small metal cap inside the filler neck doesn't open if you insert the wrong nozzle, seen this before when my mam borrowed stepdad's car then asked me at the petrol station why the nozzle wouldn't fit.

Injection doc: thank you so much, my weekend improved when I read your posts. I will contact my garage tomorrow but I suspect they may be out of their depth. Can anybody recommend a technician prepared to come out to Surbiton , Surrey will pay top money, if you don't want to post details on this thread perhaps the mods wouldn't mind forwarding them to me.Many thanks.
Mods I do hope this isn't inappropriate use of this forum.
