Took the Triumph 1050 Sprint in today for service and 1st MOT. They gave me a Bonneville
as a loan bike. Very basic, comfy riding position and that retro exhaust sound. What a hoot! :-]]

All,
I've lost the one and only key for my Focus. It is a remote key with open/close and boot. As far as I know car does not have an immobiliser or alarm. Its a 1.8 TDCi if that helps.
Do I ring Ford or any other suggestions?
Rough guide as to how much ££??
Thanks

Ford will have the reference number to your keys. It is not goint to be cheap but Hey your lock out so no choice. Regards peter
Noticed my mondeo keeps on overheating.
There's gunk in the coolant expansion tank. I tried draining the radiator and, assuming I found the right drain plug(!), not a lot came out even though I've now topped up the coolant. What did come out looked suspiciously like screenwash (bright yellow).
I pulled off the top hose to the coolant tank and turned the engine on - no liquid came out of the hose, from what I've read this means there's a broken pump?
Does that sound right, is it easy to get hold of the pump and replace it?

Does anyone know if Mk.1 MX5 rear pads will fit our old 323F GT? Some suppliers suggest they will, but my Mazda garage simply says, cryptically, that they have different part numbers.
I know this is sort of technical, but it could also be regarded as trivia... Read more

That's what I found - thanks. Much as I appreciate his concern, I don't share Tony's alarm about this. For one thing, the Mazda pads would have to be at the extreme ends of their tolerance with the Mintex exactly in the middle, and for another, the 323 is a slightly larger vehicle with a greater carrying capacity and if there is a compound difference between the Mazda pads, then the MX-5 pads are likely to be the lighter duty ones. I think it very unlikely that Mintex would make the same pad for both if they were significantly different, anyway.
I may even ask them!
Just hauled a series linked program out of the PVR. The joys of modern motoring, from A-B. All about reps in the 80's and 90s and the company car scene. How the I badge had so much cachet and the secret signs of the jacket and the coat hanger.
Think its been on before but so funny none the less. I can hardly believe thats what it was like - but its all true.

The Tagora I don't remember ever seeing one in the flesh but I know about them. People just bought their Grandads and Carltons instead didn't they?
As for a reunite sadly I bet not all the people in the series will be still living.
I was reversing my car off my driveway this morning when there was an almighty bang and the right side of the car just collapsed.
Wondering what the heck had happened - a suspension failure came to mind - I got out of the car and found the large metal drain cover in our driveway had broken into pieces, leaving the car trapped by its front wheel, with the bodywork resting on the concrete driveway.
I had to claim on my car insurance to get the car recovered and taken to a garage for inspection. That's a nice £175 excess too.
Looks like it's not covered by the water board as it's on my property, and also it's not even covered by the drains and plumbing insurance I have because my car caused the cover to break.
Now I've got to get the cover replaced, but it looks like I might need a builder to check the brickwork just under the cover first.
I'm just finally getting over the shock and starting to see the funny side. Read more
Late at night in an African capital, fortunately when going slowly, I dropped the n/s front wheel of the Fiat 125 I was driving into a manhole whose cover had been taken away by persons unknown for some more urgent purpose. The effect was to lift the o/s rear wheel off the road, so no drive. Three laughing passers-by helped, one sitting on the offside of the boot and the other two heaving at the front so that I could reverse out gently. The car was unharmed (its brakes were already extremely poor as the servo was damaged).

You really have a good point there Mr X. The relationship of this thread to motoring is quite tenuous at best, so for that alone, I've locked it.
Can anyone tell me how to remove the door cards (front and rear) on my 2006 Galaxy Ghia (old shape)
Many Thanks

Morning all.
Was with one of my mates down the pub last night, red nose (at least after 11.00pm!) etc. He's the one I've mentioned before with a Saab looking for a diesel replacement. Never got around to it last year, but is now back on the trail. He's seen a Xsara HDI 110 5 door Desire, 54 reg for £2500. It looks immaculate (apparently) but has done 92K. I'm going to look at it with him tomorrow but would be grateful for any pointers as to what to look out for - I know the clutches can be suspect, but would look for signs of replacement or bargain for it to be done before sale. Do these have any other issues? Quick replies appreciated!

If it has a DPF then check if it's been replaced and also if the rocket fuel used to clean the DPF has been recharged.
Check everything works, including air con, switches etc. Check all warning lights come on when initially turning on the key and all go off when the engine starts.
Check body work for accident repairs. HPI check, also request & check all service paperwork history is in order.
Check they are no outstanding finance payments on the car.
On the test drive check it revs smoothly throughout the rev range, the engine should be sweet right up max revs. of 5000.
Tyres should be in good order and even wear across and around each tyre and also the same brand. Cheap tyres may indicate cost savings have been made which may apply elsewhere, so buyer beware.
Hi, my 3.2 monterey starts revs with no problem. however when you try to accelerate
hard it cuts out as though the fuel or electrics have failed. can anyone out there throw some light on this? frustrated jonny96 Read more
Hi. replaced fuel filter today, no difference. it feels as though it is trying to change gear, that short pause that you get when it changes up or down.

Reminds me of my time as a cycle mechanic in 66. One of the lead mechanics modified a Bonneville quite radically. Increased stroke by .200 using a .100 offset lower end. This required shortening the rods by .100 and taking a bit off the piston skirts. Increased bore by .600 and installed a special racing cam. The head was ported and polished with slightly larger carbs. The alternater/generator was rewired to give higher output and a zeener diode installed to stabilize voltage and spare the battery. Lucas coils were replaced with Honda Red Wire coils. WHAT AN AWSOME RIDE ! Felt like there was no end to the power at any speed. Unfortunately it still managed to leak oil from the side case and gear box and fuel from the carbs when parked. The best Bonneville I ever rode!!!
