Hi all,
I currently have aTyvek cover (Dupont, sold by Halfords) for my Celica GT Convertible.
The Tyveks getting a bit porous and cracked in places, and its generally a bit thin and fragile for my liking, although it has stood up well until now.
The car is left out in all weathers, as its tool ong for the garage, so I need some heavy-duty all-weather protection
Tyveks lasted 18months, but I'd like something a bit more durable. but still waterproof & breathable.
Can anyone recommend a brand ?
I'd be prepared to payout for something that was shaped/fitted specifically for the celica convertible, if bespoke/fitted covers are obtainable.
CHeers !

Got mrs mm's Scirrocco (88 1.8 Carb model) it's been off the road for 6 months started up no bother but 1 of the tappets continued to rattle. In the past they would rattle on startup then stop. I ran the engine for 1hr but it continued to rattle any quick cures for this one?

I've heard that a dose of Auto tranny fluid is good to clean up the tappets, not tried it on my VW but it cured clogged rings on my BM (just a temporary dose - say 0.5 litre - as it thins the oil quite a bit)
at the end of the day clean oil is best for the hydro tappets. My EZ is on 172k and the tappets are just fine (\gloat)
I have been asked by someone to help sort a 'new' car. The guy concerned has seen this website (Motordepot Supermarket):
www.motordepot.co.uk/
They offer 'Flexidrive' personal leasing on USED cars. He's much attracted to this and has asked my opinion as to whether it is a good idea or not. I know nothing about it, but have told him I will make enquiries.
I freely admit to knowing very little about leasing and PCP etc., but the 'Flexidrive' rental on 1 year old cars do look quite attractive.
Has anyone got experience of these rental schemes? I assume that the renter will have to pay for RFL and standard servicing - but what about repairs? Since the car will go out of warranty during a 3 year rental, who picks up the tab if the engine goes pop or the car needs a new DMF? I assume since the renter does not 'own' the car that the company will be liable for these costs and provide a replacement car whilst the repairs are done?? Read more
If that is the case then it's a very good deal - I'd quite fancy a £112 a month Vectra for instance.
However, I'm not convinced that they can - they'd effectively be buying back a 4 1/2 year old, 60k mile Vectra for £5k which would trade at £3k or thereabouts.
More likely they aim to tie you into a longer finance deal to settle the balance (£5k at £112/month would be another five years!) because unless you can get really top private money for the car you're going to be in negative equity.
Look at their PCP for comparison - £1k deposit and £12 a month more over three years - so if you can hand the car back in lieu of the final payment with FlexiDrive then either the company, or their PCP customers, are mugs.
Hi
Has anyone had problems with the COMAND system on a C class. Ours is a 54 plate. The main screen freezes on occasion and doesn't come on for a day or so. The MFSW still works though. Mercedes can't find a fault and as it's intermittent, very hard to show them.
Any ideas?

Hi
The car has been serviced at the main dealer but I will ask them if that has been done. I'll check the DVD tomorrow. Too wet out there tonight.
Many thanks
I have a brand new vehicle and the wipers graunch on the driver's side as it reaches the edge of the screen. It appear to stop 'sliding' and 'judders'. It's very annoying - Any suggestions on how one can stop this. Read more
Often just twisting the arm SLIGHTLY does the trick - it changes the angle that the wipers strike the screen.
Sorry to pull the female line but this one of the things I hate - car buying (having been ripped off before).
My car has just been written off after a motorway accident (not my fault).
I need to buy this month or first week of new year.
I have a budget of up to at a stretch 6K. Will only get about £1K back for written off car.
I do a fair bit of motorway driving currently around 2000 miles per month (up to 40000) so would like a diesel. (intend to drive it into the ground)
I find smallish cars - fiestas, yaris, clio uncomfortable on long drives and after my crash would find them a little flimsy.
Have armed myself with parkers guide and what car but find it all quite confusing. Please can someone give advice on:
Type of car to go for
Best time to buy
How to research
Anything else i need to know
I find the whole car buying thing awful and the carsalesmens attitudes tend to stink and I have no knowledgeable male or female to help. I would be grateful for your help. Read more
dazzle, if you are thinking of a vag pd diesel try a bora. probably cheaper second hand than a skoda. jag.
Hi all
Picked up my new Mazda 2 yesterday; a month late but very welcome. The dealer offered me a gap insurance policy, which i had never heard of before, and it was on a 'today and today only' basis. Now i am usually very cynical about these kind of deals; extended warranties etc. but this seemed a good deal; for a one off payment of £300 i got 3 years cover, so that in the event of theft or write off i would get the full purchase price of a new replacement. So i went for it. Did i do wrong?

Its not that theres not much money in it because there is. The reason you could cancel is you are entitled to a 14 day cooling off period, covered by the FSA regulations.
The dealer would generally earn 40-50% per deal.
the rear heated screen on my wifes polo isn't working. i've checked the power supply right the way back to the contacts on the rear screen and it's o.k.is there any product or any way of fixing the heating element if that's the problem.the car is 3 years old. thanks.

My son in laws mother used to carry a hoover around in the back of her hatchback when she shut the tailgate the heater elements were rubbed away by the corragated hoover hose. She ended up with no rear heater.

Went to a well known "specialist" to view a second hand car. Car was brilliant, straight, no knocks, full service history and well priced. Service history book was fully stamped, and up to date, and all paperwork was present except for the V5 slip, which the sales man said that he could not show me as on a "cherished transfer" but would have for delivery. During the sales banter he said that the car had two owners and said this repeatedly to both my self and my parents.
We put a deposit down, and when we came home did an independant check on the car and found that it has had 5 owners in the past making us the 6th ( in fact there were 2 keeper changes in a 3 month period). And that it has never had a registration change.
Understandably, this has made me very uncomfortable about the deal, as i have been "mis-informed". Where do i stand with getting my deposit back, or should i push for an independent check as the car was good?
many thanks
Sid

Heya Blue,
I did both the RAC and AA HPI on the car. The details of the vehicle are exactly the same down to the mileage held by the DVLA, VIN number and date of first registration, the only discrepancy is owners.
Just bought P reg Almera 80000 miles.Mainly short 10 mile runs aroun Glasgow so quite mild winters. Is Chevron supreme 10-40 mineral oil OK?If not;alternatives?
Secondly;Denso K16PR-U (3191) plugs OK?Took out NGKRBKR6E but Eurocarparts said should be 5E equivalent for GA14 engine.Comments?
Lastly;the car jack and wheel brace not under the spare wheel-kept where?Car did'nt have driver's manual.

Nissan state a minimum "SJ" spec oil must be used, which was the norm back when the Almera was launched. Personally I buy the cheapest "SL" spec semi-synth (£10+VAT for 5 litres). I'd rather use semi-synth with a timing chain, but I doubt mineral will kill it - my old Sunny had a GA14 engine (with 12 valves and SOHC) which only required mineral oil, although it usually got semi-synth. The GA engines are strong, timing chains only rattle if someone's neglected the oil-changes. The bodywork usually falls apart long before the engine does.
The heater resistor pack problem is common on some Nissans, haven't experienced it personally but it's fairly cheap to fix, and an easy DIY job.
Denso plugs are alright, just not as good as the NGKs - I found after a year with the Denso plugs that they'd completely had it, and the car wasn't running quite right. NGKs are OE for Nissan, and often very similar price to Denso. Buy your parts from a good backstreet motor-factor - you'll find that the good ones usually have vans out and about delivering to the trade, and often employ very knowledgeable people behind the counter (unlike some of the chain stores).
a car port on the front drive which is in front of the house .... NO !
Doesn't get used that often, and onlyon fine days, so fitting/removal not aproblem, and very quick.
