I currently own a Disco3 diesel (family car), Toyota Supra (station car) and a GSXR-600 (my fun). The Disco is perfect as a family car as I have three kids aged 10-13 and it has seven separate seats. Previously I have had three Ford Galaxy's for the same purpose. When the kids were younger and in car seats it was impossible to fit three car seats across the back row in anything other than an MPV!
Both my wife and I are fed up with poor performance, handling, fuel economy of Disco and don't want to go back to an MPV. The Disco has never been off-road despite being quite rural.
I was thinking of a 530d BMW or similar but we are back in the situation of two rear seats and a hump. I would much rather have RWD but I can see the arguments over who sits in the middle already :-(
Is there a car anywhere that can accommodate three rapidly growing kids in the back, yet still offer decent performance and handling? New or Used
I am seriously considering selling the disco and the supra and buying 2 mini cooper S and accept the fact that when we go anywhere as a family we will take two cars!!! Read more
Drivers that cruise, day or night, with fog lights & dipped beams (forgetting to turn the rear ones off) highlighting just how brain dead they are....
So brain dead that they do not realise it is a fixed penalty offence with a minimum of 3 points.

I have a problem with my car
When I start the engine in the morning first time after a cold night (below 2 Celsius) it does not want to rev up above 2000 RMP, when i press the peddle to rev up near 2000 the engine begin to shake around this value.
After a 4-5 minutes idle working engine the engine can be revved up.

On start i feel a strong petrol smell,
On many a journey, especially on a motorway, I have witnessed dangerous driving, poor loading on lorries and debris on the carriageway. Why can't the police have a direct emergency number to their traffic controls. Calling 999 clogs up the system and 9 times out of 10 you are put on hold. Having a direct number to a traffic police control could assist in making the motorways safer for all of us. And with the carnage caused by hard shoulder collisions, I don't wish to use the road side telephones.

Yes, I've felt the frustration of this after dialling 999 when I came across a chap in the act of ending it all via a hopepipe attached to his exhaust. "Yes, and what is he doing with the hosepipe" and "what's he wearing" and "yes, what colour jumper is that" and "what colour trousers". Although unfamiliar with the area, I could describe the precise location (well, to 10 metres) using an 8-fig grid ref and a detailed OS map - but I may as well have been speaking Chinese to the operator.
When I came across an obviously-stolen, large white van, I was able to phone the owners because their name/phone no. was on the side of the van. However, if I'd come across a stolen vehicle with no indication of the owner, I wouldn't know how to inform the police - 999 would clearly be inappropriate. Anyone know the answer to this, or is the best thing simply to ignore it?
I am currently experiencing some engine hesitancy with my Ford Focus 1.8 petrol. When accelerating in 2nd gear, for example, the engine seems reluctant to increase its speed. I have not long had a full service done with spark plugs and all the filters renewed. Do you think it could be anything serious ?

Never tried it; but if you're taking out the front driveline, then ramps aren't going to help.
Maybe ask a Nissan, or Ford, dealer what's involved.
Hi all,
I recently dropped my remote central locking fob after which it failed to lock or unlock my car (however the PCB within etc 'appears' undamaged). I changed the battery (in hope!) but it still wont unlock the car, neither does the spare fob.
I'm thinking they both might have 'lost' their codes so does anyone know how to reprogramme a Toyota fob (its a Denso 1512T FWIW). If I need to go to a dealer what sort of cost and can an independant specialist do this? I've tried googling and forum search etc.

Symptom is that the central locking will lock but not unlock. It feels as if the unlock mechanism is not able to travel all the way to the "unlock" position, preventing the driver's door (and therefore all the others) from unlocking. Locking works just fine, so it would appear that the lock itself is fine.
Is this just the solenoid or maybe something else? I can order in a 5-wire solenoid (I believe this is the one the car requires) from ebay for next to nothing, but how do I work out if I am right?
Any help gratefully received :)
Other problem being of course that getting to the solenoid will involve opening the door, something which isn't currently possible. How does one get around that issue? Read more

Indeed, there is: the Mercury Grand Marquis. Loads of room, 281 cid V8 for power to spare and still reasonable fuel consumption. If I could afford a *new* car, I'd take one of these with no qualms. I formerly owned the Grand Marquis' sister car, the Crown Victoria, and that was one of the best cars I've ever owned. (There's a reason police departments run them and get three, four hundred thousand miles out of 'em...they're solid)
