OK,

I was looking at best prices for a new car, and I came across this website.

Does anyone have any experience of these people, or heard of them before.

They seem to have extremely keen pricing on brand new cars

Thanks
Charles

Not working today, so I thought I'd take a run up into Northumbria, see the countryside and scenery. It's been a beautiful day, cloudless skies, bright sun low on the horizon and crisp, frosty weather.
I'm a bit worried that Kielder reservoir is so low at this time of the year. Are we pumping our water down South at the moment?
Anyhow, to the point. Once I got back into the city, from just West of the Metrocentre, the traffic was nasty. Typical of this time of year, nobody away on holiday, everybody out Christmas shopping and the Winter lethargy dulling everyone's driving skills.
So, I have to admit that where folk are forming long orderly lines in the inside lane before roundabouts, I've been driving up the outside lane, finding the slow driver at the junction and filtering in. Nobody has peeped at me, they never do at the Tourquoise Panda 4x4, so I don't think I've offended anyone. I just feel that my well-planned, even yet swift progress in traffic must be wrong as so many others just form an orderly queue.

I own a Clio lll 1.5dci fitted with xenons ( great ) and "cornering lights "( not so great ) which illuminate at slow speeds when cornering. One of the bulbs has gone and I can't reach it to replace it. I can do the main beam and could reach the dipped beams by struggling in the limited space but can't even see the cornering lights. The manual states that I should visit my dealer as is involves some dismantling of baody part but is not specific. I don't want to pay a huge labouir bill to relpace one H7 bulb. Has anyone any clues as to what I should remove - it is not obvious to look at it.

had a horrible feeling it might - was just hoping for a crafty way to remove only the lamp unit - too much to hope for on a modern car!

There was a thread a few days back regarding the bigger 1.9 Vauxhall/Fiat engines and their comparative reliability when compared with other diesel engines, and whether they suffer the usual problems that plague most modern engines (turbo failure, CR systems etc...)

I'm thinking of buying a corsa 1.3 CDTI next year and there seems to be relativley little written about this engine - is this a good sign? The 75PS diesel version only costs £300ish more than the 1.4 petrol, and with it sitting in the £35 tax bracket it does look to make more sense.

I know these engines have not been around that long, but they were used in the previous shape Corsa towards the end of its life. So, is the fact that there is little written about them mean that they are problem free?

Once bought, I would be looking to keep the car for many years so any help would be appreciated!

Thanking you in advance... Read more

Yes, access is easy, facing the front.

lol I have tryed to find out myself but I came up with 84 pound seem too little.

I'm thinking of buying one but need to drive it from England via Holland to Sweden road miles 500 and lets say its a 1.8 petrol and motorway driving. I'm on one very tight buget that's why I ask.

Any idea

Thanks for replys, if I can get over to france for 20 quid that would save me a little, there's no direct ferries to Sweden the best way is to Denmark then drive through but thats, like I said pricey.

I did once go from Newcastle when I first moved there but I was living in the north of Sweden, well middle so it made sense, I live down south now.

Travelling at night makes sense but it's damm long drive from France but from Holland makes sense.

To be honest I thought it would cost me much more in petrol to drive most of the way but it wont

Cheers.Jon

I picked up my new car today, a 56-reg Focus 1.6 Zetec. While driving home I spotted a warning light on the dash - it is within the rev counter dial and resembles, for want of a better description, a snowflake shape. Most of the time it glowed amber but a couple of miles from home it turned red. As the car came with no owner's handbook I have no idea what this light signifies. I thought perhaps it may have something to do with the air con but I'm probably wrong. Can someone help please? Read more

Thanks for the responses. I bought the car in Edinburgh so your explanations would make sense as the outside temp reading on the dash was between 35-38 deg while I drove home. Its been rather chilly here today! Glad I know the reason now and it is not a fault with the car. Cheers!

My W reg Ford Mondeo 2.0 Zetec makes a funny noise when started from cold. It sounds like a belt screeching, but soon disappears when the car has warmed up a little (after around 5 minutes).

Any idea as to what this could be? It's not as loud as a worn fanbelt and the noise is quite high pitched. The car has done 76,000 miles.

The car is having a service next Thursday and I'd like to mention the problem.

Many thanks Read more

Agree totally with jc2.
Any car starting up from cold will load the alternator as it has to replace the charge lost on initial start up. My suggestion on how to test for the fault costs zip, zilch nada, nothing. Of course you could read into the problem lots of other underlying things. Go for the most cost effective FIRST. If that does not work, then you've spent nothing trying and you move on to test things that do cost money.

Our old 323 has been letting in a bit of water around the sunroof, in the very heavy rain we had this week. Although the roof has a rubber seal, I suspect that this isn't intended to be 100% and I assume any water that gets past is normally channelled off down the A-pillars. Would this be a plastic tube (can't feel one through the headlining) or designed into the metal work?

I would have put this in Technical, but I intend it as a general point, rather than for specific model advice (which would also be welcome, however!).

I finally found the exit holes in the sunroof 'tray' but they're very well hidden, so I doubt I'd have persevered without the encouragement here. Many thanks - Mrs JBJ's seat is now drying out nicely...

Anyone else had any experience of this stuff ?
I have been using it for about 1500 miles now in my newish A4 TDI 140 and my findings are as follows :-

1 Engine is smoother on cold start mornings.
2 Engine has noticeably more boost.
3 Car makes quite a bit of smoke on accellaration
4 MPG down by 2-3 MPG on identical journeys (MPG improved after filling with 62 litres of regular diesel).

I have gone back to normal diesel, and the smokeyness has largely gone away and the MPG has now improved quite noticeably. Does this stuff just not suit VaG PD engines perhaps ?

One further discussion point I would like to bring up is, when you fill the car up with the premium diesels, specifically Shell V Power diesel, you get exactly the same smell as when youve added the Millers additive to 'normal' diesel. Doers this possibly mean that premium diesels are also detrimental to PD engines ?

Hi,

I don't really know what I am talking about here so please just help me along when I look stuck!

Ok, picked the car up yesterday and all is ok. Duel fuel, good MPG, good acceleration and all works (excepy for ciggy lighter thingy but they are going to fix that next week).

The Sat Nav on an Vauxhall Astra Elegance (2003 1.6 16v) estate.

If the disc is in the CD player - it will function. As in allow me to plot a course and it will direct me.

However, if I want to listen to a CD and take out the Sat Nav CD - it goes back to the 'Add a destination' startup screen.

Is this a software error or hardware issue?

Is it a settings issue - I have looked (inde'struction manual) but can't find it mentioned.

How do I get hold of an upgrade to the Sat Nav software, how do you tell what version software is currently installed/running and how much do they cost?

Thanks for all your help & replies in advance.

Bit of a bummer if you are on a long trip and you can't have a CD to listen to - bad design that one!

One quick google reveals an optional 4 disc CD changer (mounted in the glovebox I believe) was available for this model.
