Hi All!
Have been lurking for a while in what is a very informative Forum. And now I am after assistance please?
I currently drive a Company Car, but it looks like in January I will be changing job's and will be buying a Car.
I will still be doing a bit of travelling for work, but not as much as I do now.
I originally had a budget of about £15k, and initially had opted for a Volvo V50 (as new as possible). However, I have now fallen in love with the new Honda CRV.
I was trawling online, and could only find the old style CRV in my price bracket. But then found a CRV new shape '56' plate for £16.5k.
After more digging, I came across Bob Gerard's site which has a new '57' 2ltre Petrol ES for £17.5k on the road.
Am still torn between the two, and am just looking for general advise on either car, and information with regards to buying (best price) and possible running cost guidance?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Good to deal with, not pushy, they will very much leave it up to you. Regarding negotiating, if you don't ask they probably won't offer ;-)
Generally do what they say they will do without the usual insults to the intelligence that most main dealer sales staff distribute more efficiently than they do cars.
I've bought three cars from BG and will go back if they have what I want.
Have seen that Sussex Police are running Operation Crackdown.
www.operationcrackdown.org/
You can report abandoned vehicles through the website which is good, but you can also report anti-social driving, which among other things, they class as speeding, thoughtless or reckless driving, tailgating, using a mobile phone whilst driving or driving a vehicle which looks to be in an unsafe condition.
I don't want to turn this into a police bashing thread because I do think the police do a good job but they're hampered by politics, but I just wonder if anything will happen with the information they receive and doesn't it turn it into that website that was discussed a while back where people just post irrelevant and petty comments about peoples driving?
I see thoughtless driving several times a day but I'm not going to sit at my computer when I get home and report every case of it.

Well likely they couldn't prosecute a motoring offense on the basis of a report via the hotline so you would likely receive a letter telling you you were a naughty boy and my response would be:
Dear Plod, I am a taxpayer and therefore your employer. Almost all categories of serious crime in my area are through the roof and you are nowhere to be seen but it seems you have time to send me this letter.
In regard to the motoring offense you refer to either prosecute me or get lost.
PS. Start doing your job instead of wasting my time.
Hi, hope someone out there can help. I've got a newish atsra 1.9 SRI 150, great car.
The info system displays mileage, fuel consumption etc. I filled up a couple of weeks ago and reset the trip odo and info system to zero, and since then the trip consumption is displayed in gallons used, it was in miles per gallon, I cant get the display back to mpg
Can anyone help.

Depends what dislay you have - there are three types, depending if the car has a/c, climate control or Sat-nav. Instruction book page 122 onwards covers the info displays. Probably find you can change it with the wheel on the LH side of the steering wheel.

Is it a ridiculous thought to consider importing a new or used Golf Mark 1 from South Africa, where they're still made? Where would I start? Read more
Yes, I forgot to mention the brakes - I think the underbonnet layout of both Golfs and Astras makes much more sense in LHD form, there's plenty of room above the gearbox for a well sized servo, without having to either squash one in behind the cylinder head, or even worse, use a torsion bar or (horror of Vauxhall horrors**) a bellcrank linkage between the pedal and the servo/master cylinder.
Being a bit tight in the braking department was a bit of a VW thing then, with many lower spec models like Polos being unassisted. But, I would rather that than having too much servo action, like many Renaults, that gives a false sense of the capability of the braking system.

** Although to be fair, you could also find a truly hideous linkage between pedal and master cyclinder in early 80's 5 series BMWs.
Went into a VW dealer yesterday looking at used Beetles. Salesman with silly hairstyle approaches me and directs me to the used Beetles.
S - Feel free to go in and have a good look round it
B - Has this one got aircon
S - Yes
B- Tries handle, I can't the door is locked.
S- No its open, all the cars are open.
B- Its locked
S- Comes round, tries handle, yeah its locked, I will get the keys.
B - opens door with keys
B - Its not got aircon
S - yes it has
B - No it hasn't. there is no AC button on the dash
S - VW do an AC system called ECON, its just the same
B - Are you sure, every other Beetle with AC has an AC button
S - No its called ECON
B - Are you sure, all this car has is the recirculating button
S - Yeah thats just the same as ECON
B - Eh? You are joking aren't you?
S - No its just the same as aircon though it doesn't cool the air the same way as some AC systems do
B - just walked off shaking my head!!!
Sorry, had to get that off my chest!!!

I am always amazed at how all these self made millionaires do it when they
seem to base commercial decisions on arbitrary ego trip stuff.
Exactly, if your going to get all upset and stroppy about being called a scruff, then don't wear scruffy clothes!!
We don't get many large vehicles down our road.
I heard something lorry like moving about outside and glanced out.
Over our 7 foot hedge. I saw it was a drain cleaner and didn't think anymore of it.
When I went to the car later the passenger wing mirror was smashed and all of the panels scraped. There are no dents but the paint has gone through to the primer.
As far as I know there are no witnesses.
I had been home for 30 mins to 1 hour when I saw the drain cleaner. It was still on the road when the Mrs came home 1 to 1 1/2 hours later after that.
I calmly phoned the council, who said they would investigate and call me back.
10-15 mins later they phoned me back and said I would need to contact my insurance company.
I asked if it was them that had done it.
They hadn't spoken to the drivers yet but any claim would need to come from my insurance company.
My insurance won't do anything unless I put in a claim and pay the excess.
My excess is around £300. The car is a X reg Primera worth around £1500.
I am really annoyed by the lack of help from the Council and cannot see it is worth me paying the excess unless I am going to win the claim.
Can anyone offer any advice? If not, some sympathy!
Cheers

It will boil down to you proving it was the drain cleaner that did the damage. Unless you can the council will fend you off with ease but you have my sympathy.
It is noteworthy that the pro road charging petition ?end congestion by introducing a congestion charge without satellite tracking? achieved 52 signatures where as the one to ?Scrap all existing and planned tolls, road pricing and so called congestion charging? has achieved 16,226 signatures and still has a month to run!
Will Mr Brown take any notice? Read more
I would imagine that those that drive cars such as an S class or AM would love the congestion charge or RUC schemes.
It keeps the peasents out of their way while driving through towns and city centres.

Hi All - Now....., as a new user of the BR I have learned a lot of really useful things from this forum and I'm sure I shall continue to gain all sorts of knowledge by continuing to watch it's "to-ings and fro-ings".
However , if I could beg your indulgence for a moment ? .........
While it is genuinely useful to learn more about the relative merits and demerits of different brands of screenwash, the reflective qualities of alternative number plate fixing screws and he best price you can get on replacement wiper blades etc. You know there is the fun side too :-)
So come on Guys 'n Gals ...
How about a post or two telling everyone about say......
* The best road I've ever driven on
* The best car I've ever driven
*The most fun I ever had in a car ( careful with this one ! )
* How a car changed my life Etc. Etc.
* Funniest motoring incident
I guess we are all car enthusiasts and I would like to hear about the aspects of motoring which get our juices going as well as the ones which get our blood boiling !

Hi Chris - Quite agree - Great fun- I once did that same run on hard packed snow in a (gulp) Westfield ! Medication has since worked I'm pleased to say !
HAs anybody else experiences any handling problems with their FR-V SE 2.0ltr petrol 2006?
When steering the car follows ruts and is unstable when cornering - to the point of almost ending up in a ditch. On one quite scary occasion, weather conditions were dry and speed was appropriate to the well known road. No warning was given that the car would be unable to negotiate the quite gentle bend. The car seemed ok, then there was a sudden loss of driver control, which can only be described as a 'big wobble'. The car recently had new discs and pads, the only thing that stopped the car from crashing was -admittedly - the VMA.
I would be grateful for any feedback. Read more
Agood study of the tyres may be worth while & even a change. My own car tramlines badly when the tyres become half worn!. I would still get it all checked out at the dealer.
A possible fault in the differential can cause the symptoms you discribe & would cause a fight going into a corner & a wobble. the diff could be jamming . I have seen this happen manya time but unusual on Honda's.
