Millers Diesel Power Sport 4 - Roly93
Anyone else had any experience of this stuff ?
I have been using it for about 1500 miles now in my newish A4 TDI 140 and my findings are as follows :-

1 Engine is smoother on cold start mornings.
2 Engine has noticeably more boost.
3 Car makes quite a bit of smoke on accellaration
4 MPG down by 2-3 MPG on identical journeys (MPG improved after filling with 62 litres of regular diesel).

I have gone back to normal diesel, and the smokeyness has largely gone away and the MPG has now improved quite noticeably. Does this stuff just not suit VaG PD engines perhaps ?

Read the owner's manual concerning fuel (and oil) "treatments" on VAG engines.

Yes, the perceived improvements will absolutely come at a price. The perkiness will be offset by a shorter lifespan of the fuel and injection system.

Why? It has lube additives as well as cetane boosters.

Sport 4 only needed if Euro IV IIRC, designed not to be detrimental to DPFs.

There might be some interest in the tests referred in here:
dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=177728 14pp long!

Summary: out of 19 products tested, most of which are unfamiliar, only a few managed to improve lubricity by much. Some made things worse.

There is more argument here:www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=178848

Warning: the "data" relates to US fuel.

Interesting to see in the study you refer to that one of the products, which was supposedly detrimental to the fuels lubricity, uses data from the same research laboratory to demonstrate an improvement in lubricity in their advertising. Is it a case of lies, damn lies and statistics, or are there too many other factors involved to just come out with a plain good or bad for your engine?

US derived advertising hype and properly conducted, recorded and published testing on lubricants (and fuels) do not go together.

Don't use any additives in your PD engine.

One further discussion point I would like to bring up is, when you fill the car up with the premium diesels, specifically Shell V Power diesel, you get exactly the same smell as when youve added the Millers additive to 'normal' diesel. Doers this possibly mean that premium diesels are also detrimental to PD engines ?

Davmal: I have no idea, but if in doubt, or without insider knowledge, avoid snake-oil. See the post just above! Personally, unless the engine and fuel system mfr gave a categorical OK, I'd avoid any after-market additive, for anything to do with the powertrain.
