Bigtone

Hi
My Octavia 110 tdi has two flat spots under light throttle loads at about 1800-1900rpm and again at 2300-2400rpm approx.
M.P.G is exellent at about 55-60 mpg and overall pormance seems fine
Has anyone had similar probs? The MAF sensor looks to be quite new! Read more

The MAF sensor may be new; but if it didn't come from a dealer, then it stands a good chance of being counterfeit rubbish - allegedly "genuine" MAF sensors are absolutely everywhere.

A good diesel specialist should be able to discover the problem.

I thought it hadn't yet been launched as I haven't seen one and I do something like 15-20k per year. Looking on Autotrader they're all ex demo's. So Back roomers has anyone seen the lesser spotted or even driven one ? Read more

From citroen.com.au: Annual highlights 2006
"The C6 has already clocked up 7,000 sales worldwide, which is a strong result given its gradual release on the market since the commercial launch at end-May. The offer was also limited initially to V6 engines."

2000 of those sales were in France.

Never seen this done in a car before! Almost lost it, but recovery more due to luck than judgement.

driving along a straight road yesterday late afternoon I noticed an approaching car's lights going on and off repeatedly. I then realised they must be auto lights reacting to the sunlight streaming between clumps of trees. It was an Aston Martin DB9 (? pretty new looking anyway) - surely the sensor shouldn't be as sensitive as that??? Too posh to push? (a button:))) Read more

Strange day indeed!
Left at normal time this morning, dropped junior at school, got back in car reached for smokes... discovered the Zippo had been left at home. damn.
So used the car's ciggie lighter.
Now, the lighter needs to be held in a bit to heat it up to ciggie-lighting hotness...
Carried on, normal route, got a few miles down the road in stop/go traffic, reach for new ciggie, push in lighter, wait for it to heat up.
Suddenly, car goes "ROAR" for a second, and warning lights come on - engine and autobox. Car is in limp mode - gearbox works, but needs to be changed manually. Crept down to gearbox specialist - Thinking "here comes a huge bill!".
Explain story. He grins, climbs into car, gets out owners manual and flips to fusebox.
Turns out fuse #20 is a 20A fuse, which bizarrely covers the ciggie lighter AND the reverse light.
Replace fuse, problem solved!
Wonder what would happen if the reverse light bulbs blew? Limp home again?
So, went next door to spares shop, bought a pack of fuses and then to the takeaways for a box of matches!
I'll keep them in the glovebox! Read more

Saw LHM's comments - on a read only messsage (adios amigos)! I must confess to having been away from the discussion for a while after becoming more than somewhat 'peeved' by the over bearing attitude of some and being on the recieving end of some 'wisdom' ......pretty much why I no longer live in the UK, frankly!

Thanks for the info on this, my Roomie goes in tomorrow to have an aftermarket (Alpine iPOD) HU instaled and will certainly be something I raise with the chap doing it.

This morning I observed a chap cheerfully tipping 1litre bottles of cooking oil into the tank of his 4x4, a green 2.3l block-shaped think. Apparently, it's cheaper to buy in 1litre bottles. Read more

Well, I don't have a diesel engined car so I've got no real interest in alternative fuels.
I do eat a lot of fried grub though, and it seems to me that a gallon of red diesel would be better value than a gallon of olive oil when it comes to cooking food.
My question is, would the red stuff be ok for frying chips etc. and yet still be suitable for basting ?

I think I may know the answer to this question but may I pose it anyway.

My Golf is coming up to its 3rd anniversary on Dec 16, the day it was registered. My Road tax run out on 30th Nov before which, no doubt, I'll receive a reminder. Am I correct in thinking that I will NOT require and MOT certificate to renew said tax?
No doubt they will remind me that an MOT certificate will be needed to drive the car after Dec 16th, however.

I don't expect it to fail on anything that would be covered by warranty!!
