Hello, need some advice. my 1997 xantia turbo diesel decided to play up yesterday. I don't know if its the damp or what. typed in code just would not start. after switching engine off a number of times and re-typing code it started. Today not starting again, although this time the code is typed in and and the relay clicks on the starter turns but does not fired up. Read more
If I'm turning left at a two-lane roundabout where there are two lanes on the approach, two lanes on the roundabout and two lanes on the exit, do I need to wait / give way to someone in the right hand lane of the roundabout?
My thinking is that, if someone's in the right hand (outside) lane going round the roundabout, they should be coming off the roundabout in the outside lane so I should be able to just go, in the inside lane, and off in the inside lane, effectively at the same time as the car in the outside lane. Is that reasonable?
The problem is when someone who's going round the roundabout in the outside lane exits in the inside lane.
Someone hooted at me the other evening for turning left in the inside lane when he was in the outside lane (he came off in the inside lane and I was obviously in his way).

Absolutely. If you don't trust what's in front of you you're mad not to hesitate.
Otherwise, foot hard down through the obvious route.
Hi
My 2.0 GT FSI golf never needed a coolant top-up (apart from at the service) in 30,000 miles.
Then, unexpectdly, the warning light came on and I topped it up with about .75litre of water - all I had to hand on the side of the M1
Since then, it has needed two a top-ups of a further .5l, once again, under circumstances when only water was available.
I was wondering, might it have a leak (obvious answer!) or is there the possibility that - in topping-ip with water, rather than coolant, the boiling point has been lowered and more water vapour is escaping, than would, had it been topped-up with coolant?
I have just partially drained the system by about 2l (by removing the expansion tank cap while hot!) and replaced with neat VW coolant.
I will see what develops Read more
Hn,
I had the exact same problem as you with my passat on a 54 plate. It has had 2 x new radiators replaced under warranty. The last radiator never even lasted a year. I got the last radiator installed 2 weeks ago been ok since. Importantly the radiator that they installed this time has been redesigned so that issue does not happen again. I wait and see, as you never know with VW these days.

I agree. The principle is to centre the steering wheel, and then adjust the track rod ends until it is tracked straight and square. They have probably done it the lazy way, i.e. track it and don't bother to see if the wheel is aligned straight. Any reasonabe tyre shop has a special clamp to centralise and hold the steering wheel against the front seat while the work is being done underneath. That's standard.
Be very careful about setting off the airbag. Personal injury and many hundreds of pounds to reset it.
Hi,
Got a 2 lt TDCi amd have had no problems until last night.
I started the car and it made a slight knocking noise and then cut out, it sounded like it was running on one or two cylinders, it turns over but won;t start and the heater glow plug warning light stays on. Thanks

No; once it's running, the immobilizer can't stop it. Suspect things like the cam sensor or a power-feed fault.
Hi, my 2007 model Lexus GS 300 has a foot operated handbrake, the handbrake fails to hold the car on moderately steep hills, when operating the handbrake it needs to completely pushed to its limit to hold the car.
Is it a case of a simple adjustment required or is ot just a lousy design. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Read more
May be thinking of purchasing a 2nd car as her indoors has passed her test. The second car will be for my use and are thinking of purchasing an automatic as a fair proportion of my driving is done in stop start driving, but would like to know if would be a wise choice to go for an automatic based on the following
Journey to work: 15 miles(10 miles on twisty A Roads + 1 miles on dual carriageway + 4) miles in town
Leisure 3000 miles a year (1500 on long journeys + 1500 on short pottering around journeys & jounreys of not more than 45 miles each way)
Also is there a lot of difference between manaul and automatic fuel consumption, any car purchased will be between 5 to 7 years old with around 60000 to 80000 miles on the clock.
Cheers

Mazda 323 & Nissan Almera production stopped. Though Mazda 323 is a legend on reliability!
I reckon Honda Accord and the Toyota Corolla are best of the lot.
Carrying on from the Fabia vrS thread, have you ever bought a car, accessories etc based purely on advice, info given here. I will start off with
Fabia vrS - I had redundancy money burning a hole in my pocket about the time there were lots of discussions on here regarding how great fun a vrS was as well as being a practical daily car. Think it was PG who instigated it with her trying to get advice on a new lease car.
Altea XL - would not have thought of one of these as a replacement for my Scenic but RF?TVM wrote a glowing report on it and compared it to many of the rivals that I was considering!
Pressure Washer - from Aldi or Lidl, can't remember, but based purely on good recommendations on here.

Yep,
Replacement of my Pug 405 diesel estate was to be either diesel Omega estate or XM diesel estate.
I went for the XM, based on "profiling" Citroen users on this site. :-)
