the interior lights have never works properly, now they dont work at all. Including Boot, glovebox etc....
now my central locking has stopped working, but alarm still activates.
I feel this could be expensive, checked fuses they are ok.

check under the carpet in the front passenger footwell.
Any water?
|
right....
i checked under the carpet and its all dry
i have then checked the central locking pump and it was rattling so was going to get a new one but then went away for a month with work. came back and now i cant open the fuel filler cap, its locked.
what locks the filler cap? is it on the cetral locking because im sure it was ok before....
|
yes.
But look in the handbook - there is a way to manually open it from inside the car - you have to get behind the trim.
Most common reason for your original problem is a water leak killing an ECU which stits in the passenger footwell and controls things like internal lights, alarm, locking, some dash functions. Are you sure that the soundproofing under the carpet is totally dry?

Do you have an aftermarket radio fitted?

A quick visit to a good indy with some good diagnostics can plug in & test all the C/Locking etc. On Vw's the ISO plug wiring doesn't match the standard radio wiring & can effect the C/locking & interior lights.

well 2 weeks before having the central locking pack in i had a Stereo fitted, JVC but it was all ok for 2 weeks???
|
Well I could be wrong but there is a known issue with the ISO plug & central locking!. The wiring on the iso plug is reversed for its switched & constant feeds & causes a feed back into the central locking. Hopefully its wiring under the floor which is a common issue & may look fine & dry but its best unwrapped to check as there may of been a leak in the past.

Thanks for the info on this, my Roomie goes in tomorrow to have an aftermarket (Alpine iPOD) HU instaled and will certainly be something I raise with the chap doing it.
