anyone else read the article in auto express about this new super economy driving technique which results in better fuel consumption figures than even the manufacturers claim?

I went ahead and had the cambelt changed, including all the other bits that come in the kit - cost me £110.75 all in ( I had a little snigger reading about those Merc service costs ) - is that a good price? He said a pulley was quite worn ( part of the kit so was changed ) - is that normal?
Also had coolant changed, just as a precaution.
Only real fault so far is that the OS front indicator keeps running fast when I first turn it on, then after a few seconds, it goes back to normal speed - Im assuming a loose connection somewhere? Havent had time to investigate yet.
Other than that, its proving reliable - in 3 weeks time it will be doing Northampton to Truro, a real test.
Economy is coming in at high 40's with almost 100% town work on the last tank.
Its hard to get over the idea of fragility with the car though - the 'whats that noise' feeling hasnt gone away just yet!

Hi there, the indicator problem will likely be a bad connection on the rear or side indicator if fitted on the offside. just clean the contact, and refit the bulb, Cheers, graham.
Okay it looks odd, but imagine this Golf with a turbocharged 6.0 W12 engine with 650PS. Capable of 202mph apparently! Bonkers.

They won't produce it but I bet it not only would give the Porsche 911 Turbo a run for the money (as mentioned in the article) but I doubt if would cost as much as the 911 either.

According to Castrol's website, you want 5.2 litres of 10w40 semi-synthetic, or 0w30 fully synthetic. I'd personally go with the 10w40 semi.
ive recently changed my discs and pads and now 500 miles later there is a intermittent grinding noise at low speed when pressure is applied. as i say this is not happening every time i use the brakes and i did use copper grease. any help please? vehicle is a kangoo van 04 model {Now added to the subject header} Read more
everything was cleaned/degreased and the discs were seated correctly. had a look at them today and on the drivers side about 10mm from the outer edge there is very light scoring. took pads out on both sides and checked for stones ( nothing)and replaced .i really cant see where anything could be causing the grinding noise. pads and discs were delphi by the way
Hi all,
I'm looking at 306 DT on Flea bay very close to my house as a first car for my little brother.....it is a 1994 306 DT with a bosch pump.
Now the chap say that she smokes well, he say that the previous own tweaked the fuel pump which make her go like hell but now she smokes (I know this is a common thing as I have done it myself before)
Now, the chap says he has tried to 'reset' the pump but the car still smokes......which I find strange........
Now I know quite a bit about the DT, so I will instantly know if the turbo is leaking...but I was wondering if anyone knew an approx reset value for a DT..i.e, if you screwed everything in, the amount of approx turns to be right?
Thanks

they all vary from pump to pump. also if the turbo has been adjusted turning
fueling done will make it go bang sooner or later. id go for fitting a
new air filter fit a boost guage factory setting is between 12-15psi jack the car
up put it on stands start it up then put it in 3rd and then
wind the fuelling in until the smoking is gone at max boost should be ok
then

This won't work, because you need to test for smoke under load and you won't do this on axle stands with the wheels free.
First make sure when the engine is hot, that the cold start device is not still operating. The cable should be slack and the lever against its stop.
The normal DIY way to set the smoke levels, is to first disconnect the small turbo boost pipe on top of the pump and blank it off. (This coming from the Intercooler to the Pump.)
Then drive till the engine is normal temp, if you have a rev counter. In 4th gear, drive from 2000 rpm flat out and check for excess smoke. If you have, then adjust the fuel screw till you just get a puff. This may be seen better from someone following you.
Once sorted, reconnect the turbo pipe to the pump and do the same again, but this time from 2500 rpm when the turbo boost starts. If excess smoke, adjust the screw on the top of the pump, till again you get a puff of smoke.
But as already said, fit a new air filter first.
I have a question on how heating and cooling works on the cars.
Usually, I see following 3 dials on most cars
First - with blue and hot marking to set hot/cold air flow
Second - dial with position of air flow [face/leg/front etc.]
Third - 0 1 2 3 4 etc. marking for blower
Then a separate switch for AC.
Now even with non-AC cars, the 3 dials are usually present.
Then what is the actual function of AC switch?
How does AC function differs from non-AC car with first dial in blue (cool) zone?

I understood that was exactly the intention - hence the name 'Air Conditioning'
Can anyone recommend a good bodywork repair place in Nottingham?
My girlfriends car has sustained some light dents on a wing/wheelarch. We've got rid of extensive scuffing and there is no paint damage but she wants the wing back to its original appearance. Its not a big enough job for an insurance claim.
Some little scroat threw a traffic cone at her car last night while she was driving home.
I managed to get to one place for a quote this morning which sounds reasonable but I've no idea whether their workmanship is any good.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Cheers,

I recall the Japanese NA version is about 225bhp. So still plenty fast.
But you will get every boy racer in town trying it on with you, and may soon wish you did indeed have the turbos under the bonnet.

why do people generally have this 'thing' about skodas - apparently they are good cars but a lot of people seem to overlook them -why is this?

In the 1960s and 1970s I used to share transport with a friend (we both worked in the same town about 17 miles away); he always bought Skodas or Ladas brand new and kept them for two or three years.
He also did a lot of holiday touring in them in the course of the year, but never had a major problem with either marque and was certainly never left at the side of the road.
The Skodas certainly had character - far more than the Lada Riva...:-)

What\'s for you won\'t pass you by
Well tried it out over 200 miles this weekend, I managed according to (unscientific I know) trip computer data and gained 20% over mixed rural, little bit of town and ,otorway. Yes I saved diesel, yes my carbon footprint was probably smaller, but my it was boring. Back to normal tomorrow bi-turbos unleashed.....why else by a decent car eh ?
