My Mondy makes a wierd noise.

It's a 1994 V6 Auto with 96k on the clock and it's whisper quiet under 30, but from around 35 to 60 when driving in a straight line it makes an annoying rumbling noise. Around left hand bends it goes back to being silky smooth. Above 70ish the noise seems a lot quieter too.

There's no knocking in the steering at full lock.

Any ideas what it might be and how much to fix it?

Cheers,

It's hard to say, maybe a litte worse on RH.

I had a wheel bearing go on a Seat years back, made a very unpleasant noise when it finally gave up.

SAAB 9-3 At MOT I informed SAAB specialists that I detected a petrol smell on braking my auto R Reg. Nothing could be traced. It is getting worse, Where is it coming from?

Hi all, heres one for you...... Have a problem with the central locking on my polo. Sometimes it will work then it stops for a few days, then works again. Locks sound like they are struggling(whining noise) when the electric's are working. Any ideas and suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Grangiev6 Read more

Had a similar problem on my Corolla - It can be due to several things

Corrosion in the solonoid connected to the Drivers door lock (is it remote locking or door activated?)
The link mechanism to the Key barrel in the drivers door is bent or the Barrel does not make a large enough rotation.
Low battery (then it would be worse after short journeys on cold days)
Immobiliser/security system faults

to name just a few....

Does the stop/starting relate to damp days?
If remote it maybe weak key fob batteries (which can spring to life in warm pockets and die on cold tables)

The big question is whether it is remote or door key operated, as that will determine where to start looking.
In either case someone needs to inspect the mechanism for loose connections, corrosion etc.

It often means removing door panels, door membranes and trim and taking a door apart.

Sometimes spraying loads of WD40 or water repelling spray into the lock mechanism (side of the doors not keyhole) can help. If that fails and it it isn't weak batteries, then you'll need a workshop manual to guide you through taking trim off without damage (unless you've done it before) or it is a garage job ( maybe 2 - 3 hours labour? plus parts) depends a little on model of car and how accessible the mechanism is.

I'm picking up my nephew on Friday somewhere near the M6/5 interchange. My sister is going to drop him off but rather than meet at Frankley services or Hilton, I thought it would be nice to meet in a decent pub/hotel just off the motorway.

Can anyone recommend something decent.
Cheers. Read more

I am thinking of buying a Nissan Almera, It has been written off by the insurance as cat c. The dealer selling the car told me that he has replaced front head lights, front, back bumper and a passanger side wing. Its for about 2000 £ and is 7 years old. Do you think its worth spending that much money on this car?? Any suggestion advice is welcome. Thank you. Read more

you dont say condition mileage etc
if its low mileage the engine is well serviced and the air conditioning is working and only the bumpers one wing and a pair of headlights (all the stuff a 5mph bump will ruin ) then i would say the price sounds ok to me

Just got my pads and discs for a 2002 corolla back today, now for some reason, the pads are slightly smaller than the disks, like 3mm each side, so the full face of the disc isnt bieng used as such, this doesn't seem normal, is it a case of incorrect parts?

If you look at the discs on any car through alloys, a small ridge of steel unswept by pads is visible all round the circumference of the disk. (it's usually covered in rust so cannot be seen on new cars !)
This is quite normal... and about 3mm in width:-)

My 2002 Pug 406 is making a intermittent squeeling/squeeking from the osf wheel. The sound goes away briefly when washed, which leads me to think it may be something to do with brake dust - but something is niggling telling me I'm wrong.

It has steel wheels with trims - are they more susceptible to collection of dust?

Ask them to use antisqueak on the pad rears.
