Hi,
There's a noise coming from around the gearbox/engine area when i'm traveling at speed and take my foot off the gas pedel. Any ideas and is it a DIY job or main dealer??
It's a 306 1.4 W reg. {added to subject header, as per the "sticky" request at the top of the page - DD}

This may sound a crazy idea but I am planning to travel from just north of Glasgow to Bath, stay a few hours for various reasons and drive back the same day. I would leave early hours say 0200 Hrs to avoid the traffic one way, AA say 411 miles and 7 hours drive time. I have a reliable comfortable car at least. Any tips to avoid disaster from the members would be appreciated. Read more
Fly if you can get a cheap price. This is not always possible if travel is in the near future, so try to stay over for a day...use one of the 'late booking' people or, like me, stay at the Youth Hostel. I am always on a tight budget (archetypal Yorkshireman) and used to sleep in my van...the YH is an Italianate mansion in private gardens at Bathwick Hill, and costs about £15 inc bfast...Tel: 0870 770 5688.
Hi,
I've read a few website, and HJ FAQ's on rejecting a car but still require a bit of advice. I'm purposely not mentioning the car, manufacture or the dealer as there is no benefit in it, but it is a respected make and car (but hasn't done too well in customer satisfaction surveys).
I bought the car in late February, and from the first week it had many issues. It's twice been to the garage and there hasn't been any real progress. On both times I've written to the dealer listing the problems, providing evidence, and said that I wish to reject the car under the sales of good act, but without prejudice I will give them an opportunity to fix the car.
Problems include
1) Squealing clutch when blocking changing down.
2) Noisy gearbox, when labour in 1st/2nd gear.
3) Automatic wipers (go bezerk), automatic climate (which can't regulate the temperature) and automatic lights (always on) which don't work properly (I've owned other cars where they operate satisifactorily).
4) Car unlock itself, and not locking up properly.
5) Various vibrations noise and rattles.
6) Petrol engine which sometimes at start up sounds like diesel, and makes loud tapping noises on idle.
7) And a few other less problems......
Today it has been inspected by a representitive of the manufacture, and they say it's fine, however on a previous test drive the mechanic did experience some of the faults above, and I have some video evidence that I have submitted. Tomorrow I am meeting with the manager to discuss rejection.
I've had many new cars before, but never have I been so disatisified.
If they refuse my rejection and won't allow a refund, what do I do? Do I just give them the V5 and keys and walk home, and involve solicitors. If so what are my chances of getting my money back? Any advice on how to handle a successful rejection.
I'm quite upset and stressed about this as it is a near £20k car and would appreciate some help please.

Hi
I have got a BMW 316i which has done 65,000 miles. Just recently the coolant light has started to come on in the car followed by the oil lamp light. I have filled up the coolant which works for a few days but it is leaking and requires filling every few days. I have checked the oil level yet this seems ok??
Could anyone tell me what the likely repair is for the coolant leak and any suggestions as to why the oil light is comming on. I am bringing into garage next week .
Any help much appreciated.

Daihatsu Charade 1.3 LXi 99 on V reg, 70k. Its the base model so no elec windows etc but it does have air con which was optional, so its a strange spec anyway.
Its at a Daihatsu dealer up for £1990
Sounds like really strong money to me? Problem is, it doesnt appear in any price guides that I can see, possibly because sales were tiny by that point as it was on its way out, but it makes it hard to judge. I thought perhaps £1500 was closer to reality?
Any clues much appreciated. Read more

Just done a few hundred miled round Hampshire and Kent and the motorcycle brigade are out in force. They weave in and out braving small gaps and are can be in large groups coming past you on all sides including the hard shoulder. Now I've nothing against bikes as I used to ride myself but recently the riders seem to be taking more and more chances on their very powerful machines. I feel that the riders are putting themseves at great risk with some of their antics. Read more
One of the reasons I won't go on a motorbike is
that (having only two wheels) they are more liable to fall
over sideways than a car! ;-)

I understand that sentiment of what you write, but actually, thanks to a bloomin' great gyroscope at each end of the frame, a (moving) motorbike is very unlikely to fall over. Witness what happens when riders part company with their machines in many a circuit racing accident; the bike stands itself back up and carries on running until it hits something.
can you pay insurance like you pay your phone (pay as you go) for instance why shell out for 12 months insurance and then 6 weeks later you have to scrap an mot failure, would they reimburse you the unused period of insurance? Read more
It could be a good scheme for cars that arent used very often but I dont think it will suit me. I want something similar for my track car / weekend toy. Problem is it will charge me for driving it when its actually on a trailer being towed a couple hundred miles.

VW Golf 3 TD1 1996- Started getting a strange problem with this car,its when I let my foot of the throttle, there is a big drop in power, which it has only started doing in the last week or so.Its never done this before, usually when you let throttle off, theres a gradual reduction is speed but now its a big drop in speed, something definately not right here, any ideas? Dont know if its just a coincidence, but 2/3 weeks ago I changed a relay,(relay 109),Ive checked the new one but it looks ok,no smell of melting plastic like the old one had.Dont think its the turbo,as theres still plenty of pull when you floor throttle, anything obvious that I can check for?
