Hi,
There's a noise coming from around the gearbox/engine area when i'm traveling at speed and take my foot off the gas pedel. Any ideas and is it a DIY job or main dealer??
It's a 306 1.4 W reg. {added to subject header, as per the "sticky" request at the top of the page - DD}

What sort of noise?
Could just be your tyres, changed them recently? Does it happen when you are in neutral, and idling (at speed)
If "Yes" then it's not your engine/gearbox, and could be tyre noise or wheel bearing.
If "No" then it is not your tyres and not wheelbearing. so could be something to do with the gearbox.
Another thing to try is get up to speed, press the clutch in, turn the engine off (on a straight road) then quickly turn the key back to ignition on position (dash lights up) If you do this you have to be quick and not turn the wheel, otherwise steering lock could cause an accident. - hence why you turn the key back into "Ign On position" as that will neutralise the steering lock. You then listen, start car, gently release clutch.
If you hear the noise it could be tyres or bearings.
