Hello again.. I cant shift this pesky oil leak.
I was advised that the leak may be the crank oil seal.. so I popped off to the factors for one...
Right , i got the part from the factors.. was looking at it and its a tiny seal really.. the one that seems to be leaking is the bigger seal, the one right next to the wheel.. I think its called the crank, it is the bottom pulley wheel on the cam belt.. right next to the sump. its this that seems to be leaking oil.. any ideas ?
Im sorry to keep mithering... A garage would charge me a small fortune.. I aint got it.
I did change the back box today all by myself which im dead pleased with, and sorted the handbrake out ! Read more
Im in the middle of changing the front brake pads on my 98 Escort
I have the housing off, old pads out and new ones in - I cant get the housing to fit.. the piston wont push back...
how do I get the piston back so the housing fits with the shiney new pads ?
Cheers ears ! Read more
Well done !
But on a more serious note, if the old pad was down to metal it will have damaged the disc; you would be well advised to change them too (always in pairs). Do it quickly before the new pads are used much or you will need new pads again too.
The Mondeo's MOT is due, I have previously the first two done at the Ford dealer, same price as the local indy who does the Clio, and they clearly know the car well, the MOT is one thing where generally you dont pay any more by going to a main dealer.
Should I use the dealer again this year, or the friendly indy who is more local, or another garage that is quite local who is offering MOT's for £25, they are a Daihatsu dealer so must be reputable however what is the catch? they must be losing money on a £25 MOT so are they more likely to find something minor that needs attention so as to cover their costs?
Any thoughts?
Thanks. Read more
You did seem to suggest that you were happy with the main dealer as you had taken it there twice in succession.
I used to have my car MOT'd at National, which offered (may still do) half price tests. The car passed its test every time without needing any work done.
The only reason I stopped using National, apart from the fact that the nearest branch it had with an MOT facility was 17 miles away, was because a couple of years ago it temporarily had no MOT approved tester and was using a third party. Since then I've used a very trustworthy independent garage that came very highly recommended.

What\'s for you won\'t pass you by
The A30 round Basingstoke way used have lots of dual carrigeway and you could make good progress quite safely along the long stetches. It is now festoned with white hatch marks down great swathes of it and traffic islands have sprouted in many places to ensure once car friendly dual carriaways are single lane only. Where once you could overtake or be overtaken safely it has become a procession vehicles stuck behind each other. The whole area has become anti car, whats it like in your patch? Read more

the six
lane A3 Kingston-by-pass reduced to 50mph complete with 11 speed cameras
installed over 3 miles.
We now have traffic that travels just 3 foot apart with
lots of 'undertaking' and everyone hitting the brakes at every camera.
It's truely scary.
Actually flynn you will find many here who agree with the idiotic 50 limit on that road. But I agree with you.
Hi. Just cleaned my alloys and have decided that they need some cosmetic attention. Has anybody out there used a company in Brum called Lap-Tab?

Also - Im still loosing power when I slow down from speed.. any ideas ? (Not sure if this could be it, ive had no back box for 2 days, and it seems to be an issue since then, its being replaced today.. could that be the reason ?)

if you jack and support the engine on the offside only then gravity says all oil goes to clutch side and not out of the crank side where you are working
not much would come out anyway as the level would/should be below the crank...
hi where is the clutch housing cover plate on a mk 3 fiesta?it says in the manual remove the 2 bolts so i assume it doesnt mean the whole clutch bell housing thanks, also what is the appropriate sealing compound to use when mating the cork and rubber gaskets on a rebuild of the sump and timing cover etc etc Read more
its a tin plate that covers the lower gearbox to engine up
as you look to the right of the sump underneath
as said hylomar.blue
hi, where does one get hold of grease caps the ones that protect the hub nut my local car factor doesnt stock them, for a mk 3 fiesta Read more
Strictly speaking they are dust caps not grease caps ... they
should be put on dry with no grease in them ...
if you put grease in the caps it will seep out
and make a mess of the hub and wheel ...
theyre a sealed unit mate, i think your thinking of the old types that had a breather hole in the middle, so the grease cant come out. i agree what your saying about putting grease in them, no need to put any in , i just put a smear in them and on the lip , stops them rusting!
In the face of an increasingly huge bill to bring the BMW up to scratch (MOT plus a large bodywork bill to deal with rust) I decided not to bother and I've swapped her for a 52 reg MGTF 1.8 135.
I know, I know that they're two entirely different cars, but the MG was the only thing that I could swap the BMW for that would offer a similar level of fun.
I have to say that I'm starting to feel more gutted than I would have thought about losing the BMW, the MG has a lot to live up to,and I know that in terms of build quality, it doesn't stand a chance, but I'm confident that she's going to be a lot of fun to drive. The one that I've bought has the Sports Pack and a full leather interior so is quite a nice example, my initial impressions on the test drive were that she is extremely sharp to drive when compared with my current car, the only shortcomings really are in the trim fit and finish which can't live up to a BMW by any stretch of the imagination.
Will pick her up on Saturday and let you all know what I think.

Oh yes, I can assure that I will continue to enjoy her, especially with a Land Rover modified head gasket fitted, should prevent any future mishaps. ;-)
Can anybody recommend the best speed trap detector. Are they readily available (I know they are not strictly legal) i.e. not the programmed location type. A battery operated one would be ideal.

Tom Tom etc systems are all well and good for camera locations which are camera partnership controlled and have to be advertised, but it won't help you when Mr Plod parks in a field entrance behind a tree and points the radar out of his window (Collingham to Harewood Road, Easter Sunday about 5pm!).

I always use a bearing specialist having got the old one out! Much cheaper!
