Both the fog lamp lenses on my car are cracked. Were these fitted to anything else? I'm having trouble getting 2-hand Cavalier ones. Read more
Hi All,
Does anyone definitely know whether the Peugeot 1.9 diesel as fitted to the '96/7/8 Expert van and many others is "interference" ( i.e. valves/pistons), engine and if so what level of damage is likely to ensue following a jumping/broken timing belt. Thanks

Bent valves, hole in piston, failed con rod, cracked head, why do you ask, is the belt loose or is it way past the change date and you do not want to do it. I could fail tomorrow. Regards Peter
A recurring topic I know, but my son's looking around now for something for his 1st year at "uni" ....as we must learn to call it.
If you were [almost] 19, what would you be buying with £4,000 hard earned savings, assuming Dad agreed to pay 50% of the insurance for 3 years. Read more
It's not so bad when you get to know where the free 1/2/3 hour/all day parking sites are. You just need to be prepared to walk far from car to Uni if you've got a busy day and cant get away with an hours parking.
Hi,
Am looking for a bit of advice please. I am after a second car and have about £6k to spend. As I already have a family car for the misses and the sprog then this is to be my toy so I am after something that will good fun to drive, but I still need something that is quite reliable.
Any suggestions please?
Thanks

Thanks for all the advice. I have been looking at the Japanese cars as I have owned Nissans in the past and the relaibility and build quality has impressed me. There is a place near where I live that sells cars that have been imported from Japan. Looking on thier website it looks like for the money I have they have some fairly good choices. Is there anything I should be worried about by buying an imported used car?
Thanks.
Found this on another forum. A good lesson for all private sellers:
Sold a Mitsubishi Star Wagon Delicia 2.5 TDi on eBay the other day. It had been in the family since it was imported and cared for like a family member. (Sort of a poor man's camper van).
Anyway, I agreed to meet the buyer at a local station as the bloke was comming some distance by train. He arrived, I showed him all over it, he paid £1000 in cash as agreed and signed a document of sale with the mileage recorded. He wanted directions to the motorway and I wanted a lift home.
This is where it starts to go 'tits up'. I agreed to show him how it drove and about 2 miles from my village he took over.
As he entered the village (and I was 50 yards from drop off) he slowed to about 20mph as there was a T junction ahead.
He then braked further as there was traffic coming. EXCEPT he hit the wrong pedal and floored it. The good old 2.5 TDi leapt into life and we accelerated to about 30+ mph 'head on' straight into the brick wall of a pub.
30+ mph to zero in about 18 inches. To add insult to injury the passenger side where I was, was then 'T' boned by a builders transit van for good measure.
My pride and joy sold 20 mins before and having done 6 miles was a total 'right off'. Still I did have my £1000 and a document of sale.
Two cop cars, two fire engines and two ambulances. Two people in the pub were taken to hospital and so was I.
Feel like I've been done over with a baseball bat. Whiplash neck and a badly bruised chest. Missed my game of football as well!!!!!
Let this be a warning to all. Never let buyers drive your car till they have paid over in cash!
Damage to pub estimated at £11,000 Read more

No.
Did anyone else read the article on biofuels in Saturday's Daily Telegraph?

I've whittled my next car down to one of the above. On paper both the picasso and the tino fit my requirements: MPV, diesel, 3 proper rear seats, good boot, etc. I like the Nissan's reliability and the citroen's engine/ride. Spending up to £6k.
Does anyone have experience of both?
Thanks for any suggestions. Read more
Sales figures suggest that the Picasso was more popular with Joe Public. Yes I know the prices were very competitive, but Nissans aren't exactly strangers to discounting. I was happy with my Picasso, but the best thing is to try them both yourself.

Hi all,
Thought I'd post about the used car roadshow which is filiming in Leeds on Sundays in the next couple of months. Went today and it was a good, if long afternoon out, although they did feed, water and look after us very well. I especially liked the mountain of pizza. Today featured some great cars, a bloke wanting to spend £37k on a Porsche so they had a 996 cabrio, Cayenne Turbo and one of the last 993s. But everything was overshadowed by the LM200 which the owner said was the last one made, and I've no reason to doubt him. Staggering piece of kit, first time I've ever seen one in the metal, and probably the last too. ( groups.msn.com/honestjohn/2007album.msnw?action=Sh...1 )
I'm well documented on here as having a fondness for Penny Mallory (_proper_ driver, ex world rally champion, none of this giggling, guffawing VBH nonsense {runs!}) - a photo of this thread's author with said top lady is here : ( groups.msn.com/honestjohn/2007album.msnw?action=Sh...9 ). She's every bit as nice in real life, if not more so, than she is on TV. Jason Dawe came across as the full of fun chap he appears on TV too, none of the stand-offishnes that you get with some people on TV.
They're filiming for a few more Sundays yet, you can find details here ( www.usedcarroadshow.co.uk/DatesandPlacesBody.htm ) of the dates, including a link to the email address to get tickets.
A good afternoon out!
Lee

Yes, I find the fact that Penny Mallory seems to be under instructions to play ignorant very annoying. I was getting a bit worried for Jason this week, he was getting seriously out of breath just writing those figures on the windscreen. I didn't think much of the Fiat deal either - high milage, horrible blue colour - better spec ones on Autotrader for less. It makes me laugh how they send the punter round the backstreets of Leeds in the cars - the other week it was nearly dark, you couldn't see a thing.
I don't think the show is recorded far in advance so hopefully they will take the views here on board and make some changes. They should drop the auction bit altogether, it's dreadful.
I have some play in the inner track rod end (rack end joint) on a 306
how easy is this to change the part the connecting rod is around £40 from the dealer. Someone told me 'your looking at a new rack' but is it possible to just change the part with the play? Read more
fairly easy ,it just screws in to the rack piston ,be carefull of the little clip which keeps the ball joint from screwing itself back out , on some its easier to break the tab off to get the old one to unscrew but if you break the tab on the new one it shouldnt be used

same year astra?
maybe?
