Scenic cut out today RAC just towed me 300 miles. Their computer says low fuel pressure and suspect low pressure pump. where is it? they said under boot floor/seat. Haynes says in engine bay. I cant find it ! Where is it ? Is it easy DIY job ?
When i turn ignition on fuel pipes that come up to fuel filter are vibtating and i can here a buzz from below. some times it starts. the STOP light is on and then the engine cuts out.
I have read some other posts on DCi. I will also replace filter and egr valve at the same time.
I am use to working on classic fords !

There must be something wrong with my Legacy Spec B. I've just returned from a 150 mile run and it returned 31mpg. That's the first time I've seen a number starting with a '3'. Perhaps I'm getting old or it could have been the heavy traffic ;-) Read more
Must be that dodgy fuel we've been hearing about. >;---)
I have noticed when following Transits they seem to have 2 "bars" hanging down from underneath. They are in line with rear wheels , one on each side. I assume they are maybe to do with suspension but they seem to be very low, almost as low as the bottom of the wheel (exc the tyre).
I reckon they must be very susceptible to damage - what are they? Read more
Well as Transits are famously bomb proof, it clearly isn't going to be a problem...!
My late father in law took the linked pic. in Berlin just after the Allied takeover. The ruin in the background is the ReichChancelry.
Can anyone identify the car?

"a share of Berlin,."
All of Berlin I think TVm and up to the Elbe, but it's a fine distinction. Despite his "success" dear old Uncle Joe took his revenge on Zhukov later and he was lucky to escape with his life.
There is a brilliant book about the ordinary Russian soldier "Ivans war" by Catherine Merridale and "In the court of the Red Czar" by Sebag-Montifiore also gives good insight into Stalin's role in WW2 - but then I might be "teaching my grandmother to suck eggs"
Apologies if I am.

I have a V reg Polo which wouldn't start this morning. At first I thought it was the battery as have had problems with it before and tried to jump start it but to no effect. Also I noticed the electric front windows, clock, mileometer and central locking are working so decided it can't be the battery.
When I turn the key in the ignition- nada - no click, revving etc
I'm calling AA out tomorrow to take me to a garage but just wondered if anyone had any advice or suggestions as to how much it might cost to fix
Thanks

Just thought I would let you know that the prob was caused by a faulty ignition switch. The AA man spiked a wire (?) which gave enough power to the started motor so he could tell the starter was ok but the switch wasn't firing.
I took the car to the nearest garage which incidentally was a Nationwide Autocentre that are recommended by the AA. After initially telling me that as the problem was a electrical error they would not deal with, they changed their mind and accepted the job when the AA man came in to check they were aware of what needed to be done. Didn't fill me with confidence.
They've come back to me today to say it will cost cost £83.23 for the job to be done - £18.07 for the part and £62 for the labour. It was more than I thought and I discussed it with the chap but there was nothing to be done on the price. IS that an average hourly rate for a mechanic?!
One thing I would warn people about - as an AA member you are entitled to a 5 or 10% discount on work done at Nationwide garages. However this excludes main dealer parts which I have found is what an ignition switch is so prob best to check when booking the car in!

I have always been lead to believe petrol sold at JET stations was lower octane than others due to the fact it is reclaimed from the over run at the refineries

All refinery owners supply themselves and everyone else virtually in that area.
Without this "sharing" Esso would be running tankers from Southampton to Inverness and ConcocPhillips would be running theirs from Lincolnshire to Cornwall.
The petrol is the same - the additives are different for the major brands.
On the basis that you are 'never to old to learn'...I have been motoring for in excess of 45 years...I have only recently discovered that it is actually cheaper with the majority of car insurers to have an additional driver on the policy e.g. a spouse or other 'mature' relative who has a clean driving record irrespective that they may never actually drive your car.
Only found this out yesterday following an on-line quote when I discovered that it was £28 less if my wife was a named driver.
When I checked this out with the particular insurers they confirmed stating that if I was the sole driver I would be considered a higher risk re (quote) 'Jack The Lad and a Boy Racer' (Iam 63!)
I'm sure the insurance industry must have carried out some highly scientific research to warrant their statistics but it seems unfair to penalise single drivers but on the plus side I wonder if polygamists enjoy cheaper insurance cover!

I don't usually make calls from my car, but I'm beginning to see the need, as I keep getting calls whilst I'm driving. This has happened recently as my work role has changed and I'm running a project on short timescales and people need to get hold of me. Now I don't want to break the law, so I need a handsfree kit.
My phone is Bluetooth compatible, and I've used it with Bluetooth headsets, which frankly are useless due to their short battery life. so I'm interested in some of the plug and go systems on the market. I don't want a full installed kit, as I intend to swap it between 2 cars, so the 12V lighter ones are of interest.
Does anyone have any experience of these and can they tell me what's out there in terms of manufacturers and models?

Hi everyone, the problem i have with my '02 vectra is that my windscreen washer motor runs but no water comes out !! Ihave checked the nozzles are free and theres water in the reservoir! I disconnected the pipe at the nozzles but still no water so i assume that the motor is all gunged up. what i need to know is, how do i remove the washer motor without removing the front bumper ? Any hints/ cheats/ would be most gratefully received . TIA Read more
I think that some of the screenwashes available contain ingredients that can clog up fine filters, especially when combined with tap water and environmental debris. Eventually these also begin to stink a bit.
Every so often, I put some (teaspoon full) dishwasher powder in my screen wash bottle with water only and use that until it runs dry. Cleans inside of bottle, declogs any mesh filters, gets rid of stink and smells of lemon. Works a treat.
Recently had new tyres on rear of Freelander ,same make as front ,now can feel vibration through the steering wheel from the front it seems. Will having the tracking checked make a difference? Should I have put the new tyres on the front (permanent four wheel drive) ? Orshould you change all tyres at the same time?
Local tyre dealer seems not to have any ideas! Suggests I see a Main Dealer? Main Dealer not local and I would prefer a quick fix!

No tyre wear was completely even and up till that time no tracking or wheel noise problems.
sad really because we are just about to chop it in for something else .4 x 4 not being the flavour of the month even here in Devon ,trying to get a price before the bottom drops out of the market.
Thanks anyway for you train of thought!!

Its not easy accessing the low pressure pump on this model. From experience I can tell you its located on the offside on the front subframe, in other words low down at the back of the engine on driver's side.Even with the vehicle in the air on a ramp it was very awkward to deal with,so you'll need all your patience if doing it on your driveway. It is apparently a common fault and it is difficult to understand why they installed it in such a position.
