I saw a car for sale today with a Yellow front number plate. The car was a VW Scirroco F plate. Is that legal ??. Regards Peter
|
Yes, if the car is Dutch registered - to be pedantic!
|
I said it was an F plate. A full uk F plate 1988 VW scirocco. Regards Peter
|
Right. It isn't legal for display in UK on a UK registered car but, if your interest is in buying it, it won't cost much to change!
|
Diplomatic cars are also allowed to use their native country style number plates!
|
If the vehicle is one which is registered at DVLA and allocated a UK number plate then Road vehicles Display of Reg Marks Regs 2002 apply.
Take it that 'F' is a 1989 then vehicles registered between 1.1.73 and 1.9.2001:
Where the registration mark is displayed on the front of the vehicle, it must have black characters on a white background.
Where the registration mark is displayed on the back of the vehicle, it must have black characters on a yellow background.

Not so Movigloo! There are two types of plates all with UK syle letters and numbers.
"There are two different formats of vehicle registration marks that are assigned to Diplomatic,Consular Corporations and International Organisations.
One type are called 'Flagged Out marks'. These marks are normally made up of 3 letters and one number ie. they look like cherished marks and are used for Diplomatic vehicles that are used for official duty
eg.s ABC 1 or 1 ABC. These marks are not transferable.
The other type called the 'Official format for Diplomatic marks' are made up of three figures followed by a letter D or X followed by three figures
eg. 123D456.
The first three figures identify the country or organisation and the last three identify the vehicle within the country or organisations' series."
Quote from DVLA on the subject

Maybe the car had been modified and that the front is now the back and vice versa. Did it have reflectors and brake lights on the 'front'?
|
Off on a tangent, my father ran a car for many years with different numbers front and back. Two of the numbers had been transposed when the plates were made and nobody ever noticed, not even the MOT man.

its trendy amongst vw owners to have foriegn style plates...ive seen plenty of white rear ones, german /dutch etc font and sticker
yeah theyre illegal...
|
Just had a new number plate, and the owner hasn't bothered to take the protective PVC off?
|
Look carefully at this link - this fella from Greendale doesn't seem too bothered about driving around in a vehicle with a yellow front number plate...
