Well, hardly a bung, but a cheque for £10 arrived for me today from the Congestion Charging outfit. The covering letter says that 'we have waived the standard registration fee of £10'.
I don't remember any such waiver being mentioned in the original bumf. Still, a kickback of nearly five per cent is not unwelcome, and frankly I wouldn't have been any the wiser if someone had simply trousered it.
I am in danger of softening towards this enterprise. What I need is some really annoying, pointless, randomly gratuitous traffic congestion to stiffen my resolve. Got a damn good mind to go out for a drive. Read more

I'm having trouble with unauthorised parking within my car park. Forgetting the morality of the matter, how does one get the keepers details from the DVLA of the offending cars. I know you can do this, as its happened to me, and in this case there will be very large warning signs around the car park to warn people first. Read more
Depending on whether you are doing this as an individual or a business, you want a V888, V888/2 or V888/3 - details here www.dvla.gov.uk/foi/relinfo/howtorequest.aspx

Hi Andy....from me who used to give you platinum service at that dreadful motor factors
My X'reg 1.8 8v petrol Peugeot 406 manual, has developed a fault that causes it to cut out without any warning, no rough running, the engine just dies, as if you had turned the key off......leave it an hour, and it will restart.
Greenflag are tiring of me now so desperatley need advice. Failing that, do you cover the Chichester area? I'd rather pay somebody that I can trust than those bandits at Peugeot.
Have a suspicion that the immobiliser is poss at fault....only a suspicion though. Any known faults that spring to mind....anybody?

Problem solved, the 'double relay' was to blame, which is in the black box next to the ECU. I can now return the un-used flywheel sensor, leaving me with a bill of less than £35 for the relay.
Common problem I'm told, by the Peug mechanic who suggested it, saved me god knows how much money!!
Time to sell it and buy something a little more German I think...before it all starts going wrong...anyone fancy a nice shiny Peugeot.....?
More snow on its way,.
Now then, you lot warble on about being badly prepared, have winter tyre sets just in case etc.......
I live in the south,. The average temperature this winter has been about 9c We have hed 6 days of below freezing during the day, and three days of heavy snow. In one three day period this year I left home at 6:00am and it was -7c. I got home two days later and it was 9c
How does one prepare (or prepare the roads for that matter) with such unpredicatability around,.

Just before Christmas the gritters were out in Northampton, followed by the roadsweeper. Good old Northampton council. No wonder they are skint and have to close all public toilets.>>
Fabulous - now that really IS muppetry!!!
Hi everyone
I'm new to these forums, though I have been lurking about reading the odd topic here and there, mostly about xantia spheres, but I have yet to find a satisfactory answer to my problem, so I thought I'd post it and see if anyone can think of an answer..
I have an R(1998) Xantia LX TD 122k
Basically, I?m getting vibration at speed- the drive is fine until about 60, and then as I creep over 70 it gets progressively worse. I?ve had the wheels rebalanced, and checked the spheres, all four corners have a nice give in them. Rear 3 spheres replaced in feb this year, and the front 2 in august 05.
I also have an old xantia (the hydraulics were leaking gently for years and I just topped her up with lhm here and there, so eventually they broke badly) however, the car itself is fine, and I have new tyres on her and new spheres.. So I?ll be taking bits off her for later usage before scrapping her.. L(1994) 210k TD
Basically what do you guys think could be causing the vibration?
The guy who rebalanced my wheels said one looked a little wobbly (warped) on the balancing machine but to be honest it looked a minor wobble - this weekend I?m going take a wheel off the old xantia and switch to see if it is that which is causing the issue.
However, if that is not the cause what else is it? I?m getting tracking looked at tonight, but I don?t think it is that; and I have ruled out a wheel bearing as I know what they sound like and there is no associated noise with it. Just a regular vibration that makes the rear-view mirror shake and my bones go numb(!)
Any ideas? Thoughts?
cheers guys, looking forward to hearing from you Read more
It's not unknown for the wheels (alloy?) to buckle. Tends to be really noticeable at around 65/70 and fades away by about 90.

We have a 2002 Clio 1.2 16v, which was bought last October. On a number of occasions it has failed to start. When the ignition key is turned there is just silence, no noise from the starter motor, no turning over or anything.
If it is left for an hour or two it will start and then continue for a few weeks.
Not related but for the past week or two it seems to idle very roughly although it does not stall. The idle speed is about 500 rpm.
It is still under a warranty from the dealer it was bought from.
Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the replies, at the risk of showing extreme ignorance is the solenoid part of the starter motor and if not would it make sense to do both at the same time?
Thanks.
Alan
on the car the sunroof has 2 "settings". it tilts up and also slides all the way back. now the sunroof does tilt and slide as it should, however when i close it, it no longer slots into place an stays at a slight tilt. i can hear the motor whining to try and pull it right down but then it just gives up.
i rang hyundai to see how much a new motor is and they quoted £388 + vat, thats not including labour.
if any has any advice i would be gratefull Read more
That is day light robbery, a scrap yard may well be the best bet, but on such an old car I would just get a garage to force it shut and never use the sunroof.
As my S40 seems to go through just so many headlight bulbs, is there a way or cheat to disable the daytime running lights thing?
Could it be as simple as pulling a fuse?
Thanks if you can help. Read more
When I had a V40 it went through light bulbs like they were going out of fasion(even with day light running off - as described above). Then I tried light bulbs from the Volvo dealer and were to my suprise cheaper than Halford ect and lasted considerably longer.

>>I am in danger of softening towards this enterprise.
So they refund £10.00 of your money and you start to feel good about them.
Just remember how much you just paid and you will again next year, and the year after, and the year after, and the year after, and the year after, and the year after, and the year after, and the year after, etc., etc. The cost will probably rise over the years as well. In the future you will remember 2006, the last year you could drive in your area for the standard road fund licence fee.
As you have now paid twice to use the roads, why not go out and use them.
