My love hate relationship with this car continues.
I have the glow plug warning light appear again. Have taken it to my local garage before and they reset something on the computer, put some diesel additive in and said that if the problem persists, then the injector for cylinder two needs replacing. They did check the glow plugs and no problems.
This worked for about three weeks and now it's back on again. Classic symptoms of glow plug failure when starting but it may not be that.
Anyone else had this problem or does anyone else know of a fix/cure/remedy for these symptoms? Will I need to change the injector and how much does this cost, I imagine hundreds of pounds.
Thanks in advance for your views. Read more

Hi All,
Need some advice please =o)
How do i tell if the air pump on my 91 Mk2 golf is on it's last breath? sometime's it will unlock all door's and other time's it wont lock any except the driver's door?
It make's the pump noise but dosen't shut off for a fair while, but, if you squeez the pipe on the pump it shuts the pump off/up!! =o/ not looking to start throwing loads of money at the motor as wanting to trade in =o) and just spent £200 on having a new starter fitted =o/

Many thanks. Read more

You can buy refurb kits for those pumps, or you could get a used one.

Use a MityVac on each section of pipe to check for leaks.

I had some good advice from the BR with regard to selling my 170K mileage BMW with the consensus that it would be best sold on Autotrader rather than my thoughts of sending the car to auction.
BUT !! The new car - Mazda 6 2.0TS -arrives next week, I don?t have room to store an extra car, and my wife is very nervous about possible low life types turning up when I?m not there or returning after a viewing with mates to relook/steal car/burgle etc??????..so auction it is.

I visited the local Manheim Gloucestershire site but they only have one sale for cars per week - on a Saturday - but it seems to sell mainly bangers priced £50- £800 typically and presumably this is all the customers expect to see there.

I have 2 other choices:

BCA Tewkesbury have daytime Wed/Fri sales and can offer a private seller a fixed SureSell scheme with a fixed fee for 2 entries although it appears the sales are mainly made up of fleet disposal. Cars are photographed for the online viewable catalogue.

Westbury Wiltshire (FWIW this is the site features in the TV programme ?Sold in 60 Seconds ? where Auction Buyer Charlie Taupe is filmed searching out good buys for featured members of the public)
Westbury have Friday evening part ex sales plus Tuesday fleet and a viewable online cataloge but no photos.

The fees are calculated differently at each site but are comparable. Similarly both have advised me of a similar reserve to set based on CAP average sale prices.

I?ll be dropping off the (cleaned and polished!) car on Thursday but I?m undecided which one to use.

Anyone had any experience of the above sites either buying or selling - or can help me decide?
The Friday evening sale will presumably have more private buyers (and less Trade?) but is this a good or bad thing.?

As ever thanks for any advice

I understand what you have posted but I am not sure most people will! That is why I tried adopted a KISS approach.

What's the point in a shiny slimmed-down puffball version of a military vehicle?

Wouldn't mind a real Humvee though, preferably with bullet holes. Just the thing for threading through the Soho alleys.

Hi there
My girl friend has got a 1995 peugeot 106 1.1 (old shape), and the problem is that the temp warning light on the dash bored stays on all the time, although sometimes it is dimmer. i am quite technally minded but electrics are not my srong point.

Additionally to DP's piece; check in the handbook for that light's stated function.

Early Pugs often had coolant level sensors in the side tank of the radiators and they were so unreliable that they were dropped. The level warning lights were sometimes in the temp gauge.

Mate at work is thinking of selling his Focus.

It's a 5 door 1.8 TDCi on an '02' plate with 98K on the clock.

Pantwork has some light scratches (caused by someone keying it).

The engine was replaced 20k miles ago when the previous cambelt went west. Replacement engine wasn't new - low mileage from an accidet damaged car.

He is thinking of selling it soon forabout £3,000. Does ths seem reasonable? I might potentially be inerested in buying the car so I wat to know if this is a good price or not. Read more

- cambelt went west: no maintenance or servicing as per the
schedule??

IIRC, the schedule is 100k for cambelt changes on these Focus diesels. Sounds like it failed prematurely (in which case if it was my car I'd have been kicking Ford's backside for a brand new engine rather than prat about with a secondhand replacement).

If you or those growing children do not already have a passport for your trip later in the year then now might be the best time to get one.

news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/6470179.stm

A requirement for adults applying for a passport for the first time to attend face-to-face interviews will be gradually introduced from May, the Identity and Passport Service said.

As always, Dalglish, your ability to search the internet for evidence that backs up your point of view knows no bounds. Rather unusually, this time you have failed to trawl this site to find someone saying something different from what they once said on here. No doubt you tried.

You are right, a job working in a British Consulate is indeed "a very long jolly for the foreign office staff and their counterparts in the host country".

Cars in Motorway Crosswinds handle better than others - Why??

My wifes car 'Pug HDI' is a beast driving on a motorway in a crosswind, but my ZX TD, I use for travelling to work has no problems at 70mph. I drove a Pug 307 HDI and a Skoda Octavia TD a few days ago and both of those are bad too.

Which car would you say is good in a crosswind travelling at 70mph??

Hi Vin,

I like the concept of the neutral steer point - it's so simple and intitive an explanation.

Taking the neutral steer point idea, its position relative to the c of g determines whether a car oversteers or understeers. BTW, I'm not talking about the on limit behaviour when you have gross sliding of a tyre a la Clarkson, but more the underlying, more fundamental, behaviour.
