audilover

I have a Audi100/A6 1993 2,5TDI 5 cylinder straight 6 Speed box.
The problem is that it starts choking at 400rpm. higher range needed for towing ease. Can some one help in curing this problem. Could it be filters or turbo?

It may be, but it has only recently started doing it,
I used to be able to go all the way to
5000rpm with no problem!!!

There's very little point reving a standard diesel that hard as the power range is more like 2 - 4K RPM

Fuel filter, air filter, pump timing, MAF, TCS,EGR

If the filters have'nt been changed recently, I'd change those. Then get the car fault code read and get the timing checked. Changing parts on presumption is expensive and not the best way to find the problem cost effectively

Question Cataclean
Railroad.

Has anyone used it and what did you think of it? Good stuff or waste of dosh?... Read more

It was me who posted further up about Cataclean and the diesel emmissions test.

Just as a further point to that, I have personally used a 'diesel smoke treatment' from Fuchs to enable older buses to get thru the smoke test. The reading typically reducing from around say, 3.5 down to 1.0 on our own test equipment, the test centre's equipment tends to read between 0.5 - 1.0 higher than ours.

I must say that I was very sceptical the 1st time I heard of the results from a work mate, but having since used it, well what can I say... the proof is in the digital read-out!

Interestingly, the Cataclean smells quite potent, the Fuchs, and Millers, not so.

Sales of Cataclean had rocketed, but since pre-2001 diesel cars are now exempt in N.I. from the smoke test, sales may well have tailed off again. Their website here; www.cataclean.co.uk/

I have seen several drivers wearing Ipods, white in ear phones both ears whilst driving. They appear to not even be able to hear other drivers stood on their horns. Is it legal to wear earphones whilst driving. In my rally days if we were stopped on a road stage we quitly took off our ear defenders as at that time they were not road legal I think. Any ideas. I'm impressed with TVM's Flaming Lips knowledge.

Can't think of a motoring link in any way.

Question,
How can a steering rack need replacing if the PAS works as advertised. The track rod arms haven't been damaged, no looseness in the play car drives and tracks as advertised, no leaks and front tyre tracking is spot on. The whole front suspension was stripped and the bushes replaced earlier in the year due to submersion in a flood. Van went in for a service (100,000 miles) and was told the racks shot, could it have been something the garage did earlier this year that would have damaged the rack?

Any reason why, flood would not do any damage to bushes.
As for rack get a second opinion, unless there is wear in the rack no need to replace

hi can anyone help me
my vectra keeps blowing a 30 amp fuse in the engine compartment ,there is a fuse holder at the front of the engine next to the battery. inside there are two fuses green 30 amp and are quite big.one of them
keeps blowing but not all of the time .i dont know if this has something to do with my air con as it normally goes when its on but not all of the time.i do know that it has some thing to do with the fans as the temp goes up sky high.so pop a new one in and the fans come on again.
i did have the front fan ghanged as this was seized up .so was this front fan the air con fan....and could it be a differant fan than went on my car ,as i got it from a scrap yard...
any suggestions why it keeps blowing.

Hi, I have just seen how scarily easy it is to find the keycode for my RDS-5000. Is it worth me "removing" the printed serial number in an effort to render it useless to thiefs, or is there another easy way for them to find out the code?. I'd rather they are left with a useless piece of scrap than a fully functioning radio should they steal it? Read more

These are so easy to decode / recode even without the serial number I wouldnt even bother taking it out the dash to peel the lable off.

innocenti66

today whilst driving my 99 e240 elegance all of a sudden whilst doing around 40mph the car died and dash lights came on so i coasted to the side of the road.
fithteen feet from me was another broken down mercedes ( a new convertible ) which the driver informed me the same thing happened to him..............all fine then engine cuts out completely and he has to coast to roadside.
neither cars will start but turn over with a rapid clicking noise ( starting motor ??? ).
his aa arrive at the same time as my recovery.
upon arrival at the mercedes dealership my cars unloaded and whilst clearing personal effects from inside i turn the key..................starts on the button as per normal.............turn car on and off around a dozen times but leave for garage to investigate rather than the same happen a mile up the road.
any ideas what could have caused this as mercedes say theyve no idea.
the outside temperature was 30 degrees plus , could this be a factor ???

any imput appreciated as im not mechanically minded at all and am scared of a huge bill for work as id be none the wiser if it was needed.
also cant understand what or why this happened???? Read more

A few cars also have a camshaft sensor as well as the crank sensor.

Normally if one sensor goes down the other sensor allows the engine to run but in limp home mode, Then the ECU warning light on the dash would come on & a fault code would be stored for the dodgy sensor.

No idea if this Merc has a cam sensor, Most likely has though.

Can you make siren noises?

Can't even hear them. Apart from chainsaws, rubbish carts, screaming loonies and drunks and general traffic noise, it's a rare twenty minutes that passes here without plod or the fire brigade, conveniently placed half a mile and 400 yards on either side of our house, hurtling past with all guns blazing. You get used to it. And it makes you deaf.

Deport him to Sark or at least London where he won't make any difference

I know production of the old-shape Beetle continued in Mexico until just a couple of years ago. Does anyone know if they were fitted with five-speed gearboxes before being retired? Or where would I get such information? My trike is based on an old Beetle chassis and has the gearbox to match. It's only a four-speeder and sometimes I feel as though it's not getting the best out of the engine above 60 mph. In an idle moment, I started wondering if I could get a five-speeder to fit it. Alternatively, any other five-speed gearbox suggestions? FYI, this one has been linked up with the 1.5 diesel engine out of a Peugeot 106, which is mounted at the rear of the trike.

Hi,
just come across this post.
Did you find a 5 speed box for your trike ?
Im asking because I have exactly the same problem. My trike is fitted with the 1.4 peugeot so its most proberbly the same set up.
top speed is limited by the really low gearing.
If you have any thoughts on the matter they would be apreciated.
cheers
Mark.
