Astra Van rack failure

Astra Van rack failure - bikemade3
Question,
How can a steering rack need replacing if the PAS works as advertised. The track rod arms haven't been damaged, no looseness in the play car drives and tracks as advertised, no leaks and front tyre tracking is spot on. The whole front suspension was stripped and the bushes replaced earlier in the year due to submersion in a flood. Van went in for a service (100,000 miles) and was told the racks shot, could it have been something the garage did earlier this year that would have damaged the rack?

killer of any car/van should have been written off as salvage........

Sorry when i say submerged in a flood i mean up to the sills luckiliy there was no engine damage.

Any reason why,flood would not do any damage to bushes.
As for rack get a second opinion, unless there is wear in the rack no need to replace
