The 6.3 km bypass officially opened on Thursday (16 March 2006) - eight months early!
Some works will continue, particularly improvements to the interchange at Junction 9 of the A1(M).
I use this road when transiting from M25 West, A1(M) then on the A505 to Cambridge.
A very impressive bit of road.- tunnel construction pics.

I need a new set of dampers on my Mk4 Astra. I've used Monroe Sensatrac on a couple of previous cars and been very pleased.
The Sensatrac may have been replaced by the Reflex but their US website indicates that Reflex are intended for SUV's / light trucks and doesn't have the Position Sensitive Damping (PSD) of the Sensatrac.
Is the Reflex a real replacement for the Sensatrac or just an improvement on their basic gas damper?
Web searches for Monroe suppliers draws blanks (excluding North America!). Are Monroe dampers still available for European models, if so where from? Read more
Thanks for your input. I eventually traced a European website for Tenneco, its www.taeu.com
Apparently the Reflex is an update of their "Original" while the Sensa-trac has been updated to "Sensa-trac Safe Tech" but European applications are limited.
Only the Reflex are available for the Mk4 Astra, which would be too basic for me, so I seem to have a choice of top/side adjustables from Spax or Gaz.
Does anyone have any experience of the Gaz brand?
This is a question to all the BR?s who have a VW Diesel with the DSG gearbox.
I have a 2.0 GT TDI DSG on order for delivery in May (hopefully), the only thing I found strange about the gearbox was the ?T? handle gear stick. On the GTi or R32 the DSG has a nice rounded gear knob with the trigger at the front, the showroom couldn?t tell me why they should be different. I even contacted VW UK to see if the ?T? handle could be replaced by the one on the GTi, but apparently they are not interchangeable.
How do drivers get on with the type of handle used on the Diesel?

The selector level lock ("the button") is only used to select the driving mode initially, i.e., D, S, R, from P or N. The manual states "..only works if the car is stationary or up to 5kph". From there on the button is not used, even in manual mode. By the way, to be pedantic, it's more of a "V" shape than a "T" gearchange.
This is about as precise a request as you'll see here, but do you own or have access to a Hyundai Lantra N reg or same model?
I need to know how high off the ground the near side front indicator lens is.
I suspect someone is trying it on with me in a dodgy collision claim and this bit of info will tell me all I need to know.

Thanks David, I was struggling to find a good hi-def pic on the web.
In 1990, I was a Ford man & bought a new 1.8 diesel escort with a view to keeping it for a few years. At 1000 miles I wanted an oil & filter change, I phoned my local ford dealer repid fit dept who quoted me £18, when I took it in later that day & they did it, I was presented with a bill for £21, the young spotty lad on reception said ha ha ha, I forgot to add the VAT, he thought it amusing, he wouldn't back down so I just paid the £21, left feeling angry and vowed to myself never to deal with that garage again.
A year later, I joined the company car brigade and the new cars I had were:
Rover 418 (company) 60k miles driven
Cavalier 1.7TD (company) 103k miles driven
Vectra 2.0TD (company) 60k miles driven
Passat 1.8 (company) 30k miles driven
Rover 618 (private) 65k miles driven
Punto 1.2 (private) 65k miles driven
Plus all further servicing on the escort, 70k miles, done by a Ford dealer in another town.
Not a ford in sight.
For the sake of £3, that young man cost his employer the potential sale of 6 new cars and 450k miles worth of servicing. I think this highly amusing.
The moral of the story is, some people have a long memory. Read more

Hello,
I own a 1991 Sierra 1.8LX on a J plate.
When i pressed the keyfob to open the car the other morning the central locking started to lock/unlock the doors continuously, and the only way to stop this was to take the fuse out. Have changed to the spare keyfob and this does the same thing, the doors just lock/unlock themselves over and over again till you take the fuse out. I have checked the connections to the central locking by taking the door panels off the doors, and they appear to be ok. I have looked in the Haynes manual for my Sierra and I thought it might be a relay, but the model on this year does not have one for the central locking, so i've ruled that one out as well. I haven't had time to check this but i thought the problem could possibly be with the central locking control unit (if it has one)? Does anyone have any ideas, or had a similar problem?
Any help would be appreciated!!
Thanks

We had a 1990 Sierra 1.8GLX (bought 2nd hand in 1993 and sold in 1997) that did this to me once.
I was leaving work one night and when I unlocked it away it went...
Took a chance and opened a door which stopped it. Couldn't work out what caused it and it never happened again.
Investigation showed that the driver's door microswitch was not working (had not worked since we got the car as the central locking did not work from the passenger door - system sensed door open so would not lock but would work from drivers door (over-rides local door open switch, changing the switch didn't make any difference as the first time the door was closed it broke in the same way as the original. All this is a red herring anyway as it did not seem to cause the lock/unlock/lock/unlock cycle.
The rear door on my mother's elderly Volvo 760 estate seems to have dropped very slightly. Looking at the coach lines about 3mm but it's enough to rub the paint. I can't see any adjustment but then I'm not very clued up on Volvos.
Can it be adjusted? Does anyone know? Read more

\"a little man in a big world/\"
Hi all have noticed my 75 cdti tourer is pulling to the left especily at low speeds also outside edge of tyre the wear is not consistant with the tyre being about 1/2 worn
Purchased the car this time last year with just 16000 miles and had 2 new fron tyres as the originals were worn out.... normal?
I've had the tracking checked all ok and tyre pressures were normal too
Mileage now 27000
Any ideas anyone Read more
Try swapping the front wheels/tyres and see if it then pulls to the right. It may be down to the individual tyres.

I guess the moral of this tale is to try more than one sample of a car before buying ,so you know what noises are/aren't normal.. We've had this car for nearly a year, but I still can't accept that the cabin/road noise is normal. It's like a muffled metallic rolling noise. The pitch doesn't change with speed or road surface. It's just there in the background all the time and turning up the radio doesn't help. Admittedly it hasn't got any worse in 6000 miles but, with the warrantee about to expire, can anyone assure me that this is normal for this model.
Thanks

"Complete the A120 dual from the A10 at Puckeridge to Stortford. Also Braintree to Colchester.
Dual the A130 Dunmow to Chelmsford."
They're in the early stages of planning for the dualling of the A120 to Colchester. There will be a new stretch of road from the A120 just outside Braintree to the A12 just south of Marks Tey, with no junctions in between. It's probably about 10 years away yet though.
As for the A130 Dunmow to Chelmsford, it's maybe worth continuing on the A120 to Braintree and taking the A131 from there as that's dual carriageway pretty much all the way to just outside Chelmsford where it meets the A130. Plus you get to see them building the new horse racing track.
