There have been some adverse comments about Renault on this site. Do you think this will change things?

hi, im looking for any tips regarding a renault clio 1.4 1999 with abs light permenantly on and engine management light never coming on!
Should the engine management light come on with ignition on this model?
also is there any reset or fault code retrievel procedure for this model without diagnostic equipment?
thanks Read more
It should be on it has probably been disabled because someone could not find a fault. The Abs light could be numerous things from a faulty sensor to the ABS controller. Many of the faults that fetch the management light on donot have a code and are not logged in the ECU and are very difficult to find .The renaultforum is very good for advice.

Right, time for a survey. Marks out of 100 split as follows: -
Dials - Are they easy to read, can you see them all from your usual driving position, are there any quirks that infuriate you etc etc? (40 marks)
Dials - overall design and style impression. Are they not just easy to read, but do they look good? (10 marks)
Controls, switches, stalks etc - are they easy to use, easy to find, logically located etc etc?(40 marks)

No one has mentioned the wonderful Citroen CX and GSA with the brilliant rotating drums and rocker switches.
Shame on Citroen for discontinuing them!
Looking for some advice. If i turn my stereo up "quite" loud it tends to cut-out and return intermitently. Is this a fault or a "safety feature"? Noticed a "green tinge" at the bottom of my rear light clusters beside to wing.no damage or obvious signs of a water ingress. No craks on either cluster.Has the seal perished? Just curious to hear other owners' views Read more
If its the VDO unit and "quite loud" is "very very loud with lots of bass" then the unit is shutting down the output stage as its drawing too much current. Design feature

Are there any knowledgable SAAB people out there? My brother has a 9000CSE with low pressure turbo, (2.3), that doesn't like starting in cold weather, above 0 deg, things are OK. Last January (2005), he had the crankshaft sensor replaced and also a service by a specialist SAAB garage - the car then started OK for the rest of the year - until our recent spate of cold weather! Diagnostic checking indicates no faults!!!
Any ideas?

Amazingly (or stupidly) I've never replaced the wipers on my car. That's been because they've been fine up until recently when the rubber started to peel away but they still worked.
Anyway - nipped into Ford before and bought a pair and just replaced them now. Swish aren't they? Wear indicators? Whatever next! But there was a clip on each one which came off easy enough but I have a feeling they should be left on.
They look like a very small old clothespeg and clipped onto the bar of the blade that would ordinarily clip onto the wiper arm itself.
I've kept them in case I need to put them on in some way but they're a new one on me. (The wipers, without these "pegs" clip on and look identical to the old ones).
Any ideas?

I'd stick to 4k miles on a VR-4. Nice car!
I have a single cylinder four stroke motorscooter that has a weak spark resulting in poor/non starting. When it does start, it runs well. I have narrowed it down to a weak spark, which is orangey yellow in appearence. The bike has no kick start lever and cannot be bump started because it is automatic. It has electronic ignition ie. no contact breakers and I have checked everything else, like the coil, plug, HT lead, earths, etc etc but NOT the battery. The bike cranks well and all the lights are also ok. However, the pathetic spark will not ignite the fuel air mixture and it floods. The carb' has been stripped, inspected and cleaned and it not at fault. I have heard of a condition called 'current starvation' which I think means that the battery can crank the starter motor, but has not got enough power to concurrently provide sufficient current to the ignition system to produce a strong blue spark. Has anyone heard of this? The battery is now 5 years old and done 18000 miles on the bike. Read more
As a result, I have now replaced the battery and all is well. After cleaning the spark plug the bike coughed into life, cleared its throat and off it went, running like dream. What threw me, was that the battery would crank the bike over well and power the lights. I assumed (Doh!) that the battery was therefore fine and looked elsewhere for the problem. Whenever I've had a duff battery before on any vehicle, the first indication of it failing was slow cranking and poor starting - well you live and learn!
The Turbo on my 2001 Xsara Hdi went and seems to have damaged the engine, I have been thinking of getting a recon engine and turbo fitted. Any advice or points to consider? Are there any other items eg timing belt, water pump etc..that I should also get renewed? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Read more
The only things I would menton you already have...timing belt and tensioners, and waterpump. Check the condition of the crankshaft pulley and dual mass flywheel whilst the engine is out.
