Anything to look out for? Local Renault Dealer has a new delivery miles scenic 1.6 expression auto with metallic paint and some other goodies including panormaic sunroof asking £12700. 2 Year Warrany seems to be only catch. Is this good or can I do better?
Also wondering about car supermarkets - any catched with those? Read more
Had my car serviced this month and mentioned screech from fan belt when starting from cold. They adjusted, but, noise still there, when I went back to svc dept, they said that this fault was inherent with the Yaris - anyone else had this problem? By the way have 10,600mls on the clock and car just coming up to 2 yrs old. Read more
We had a Yaris 1.3 for over 2 years: no belt noise experienced. Can't think why such a common or garden device would give a problem on a Yaris particularly.
Tears. Wailing. Uncontrollable sobbing .
And that´s just BabyBarchetta.
Having unsucessfully tried to strap the child seat on the boot rack (was stopped by the Polizei - the baby didn´t seem to mind though as long as we stayed below 90) the time has come to say goodbye to the gorgeous Barchetta, and swap it for something with a rear seat.
It´s got to be small, sporty, cheap, fun and a bit leftfield.
Oh and Mrs B has to approve...
Thoughts so far:
Seicento Sporting
Original Mini (when did they stop making them BTW?)
Ford Puma
Fiat Coupe
Right chaps. Brains together - I´m looking forward to what you come up with. Bazzabear, now´s your moment to push the merits of the Coupé.
Budget is, ahem, flexible, as I have a couple of lovely guest gigs out of town this season to swell the coffers. What we´re after is second-hand value - underrated motors that the Backroom know and rate.
Many thanks in advance,

I have a Seicento (an 899cc one), and I think they're brilliant cars. Cheap to buy, cheap to run, fun to drive, looks good IMHO, very small on the outside, and with the back seats down you can get a suprising amount in the back. However, if you are somebody who worries about crashing then you may want to avoid them, they don't come out too well in crashes.
hi all, anyone care to recomend somewhere it the manchester/cheshire area that could do a alignment of my volvo v70 and adjust the rear/front tracking, ive had it done a couple of times at the local fast fit centre and they have made a right cock up of the job, steering wheel off centre car pulling etc i need to find someone who actually knows what there doing, cheers Read more
Try FAQ 48 too.
Has anyone done a 4x4 off-road day or Rally experience? Thought it might be a good birthday present for Mrs Johnny. Are they worth the money? Hampshire Wilts Dorset would be OK if anyone has any recommendations, or possibly within a hour of Pembrokeshire. Read more
For the averadge 4x4 owner then probably great fun. For those who use a 4x4 for the purpose they are built for then completly boreing. For me driving off road is ocasionly part of my job and nothing more.
Far more fun is to head up into the breco beacons after a light snowfall, Drive up and park in a suitable position and wacth the incompetence of the majority of 4x4 owners who have a similar idea.
2000 W Galaxy 2.3 Auto. Car was out of use for a few days, started fine on wednesday, wasnt used on thursday, friday wouldn't start. When the key is turned it does not activate the starter, seems to flick the interior lights on an off, reset the radio, make the fuel gauge go nuts and sets of various warning bleeps. This is accompanied by a loud clicking noise which sounds like a combination of the ignition turning on and off and the gearbox isolation switch for the auto box. Initial thought were battery although this has charge and we have tried to jump start it but it behaves exactly the same. Also keeps asking for the radio code. Could this be a major electrical problem or perhaps the starter motor? any thoughts?
many thanks. Read more
For what it's worth, my battery went flat the other week and the car did exactly what you describe. Rapid clicking, crazy dials, popping the locks, funny lights, beeps and stuff.
Although Dad came with some jump leads and it worked fine. I still changed the battery the day after though. Five years isn't too bad I guess.
i just changed my battery over and realised that the terminal is cracked and therefore loose.i wondered if anyone had renewed a terminal before and if so how do you connect it to the original wiring
thanks Read more
scfc_151
Those replacement screw-terminals come in a huge range of sizes to accomodate cables up to an inch thick. Take it back to your supplier and swap it for a bigger cable size.
If they haven't got one; look-up your nearest LSUK or auto-electric suppliers on Yell.com

No different to 1.6 ie same engine, but gather the mods made to MG made a big difference.Still selling well in my area anyway, just means travelling further to get one,I`ve lost count of new MG`s around my way, prices must be right to buy a bargain

hi!
i bought vauxhall omega 2.5 elite with radio philips ccrt 700 with bose and telephone.
the car has been disconnected from the power and now the radio is asking for code.
and i dont know how to put the code in.i dont have a manual.
can someone help me with it??? Read more
There are 2 stages of code entry for this stereo. One code for the stereo and a separate one (which is a different code) for the CD player.
If you goto www.vauxhall.co.uk , then click on new user in the top RH corner of the screen, fill in the registration form, and once completed you can access on-line manuals in pdf format.
The closest one for your stereo I would imagine is the CCRT2008, and *hopefully* the relevant info to enter the code will be in there.
Which cars survive cambelt failure with no engine damage, apparently there are some out there. Read more
Was there ever a 1.8 Cortina in the UK?
1.3, 1.6 and 2.0 4 cylinders
> was a 1.8 Sierra but only from 1985 on I thought.
>>
Yes I had one until a year ago.
I was thinking that, no 1.8 Cortinas, in fact no 1.8
Pinto engines hence the 1.8 Sierra have a longtitudinal CVH where
as the 1.6 a 2.0 were Pinto until the 2.0 was
fitted with the DOHC 8v in IIRC late 88.
>>
My 88 1.8 had the same basic lump as my previous Cortinas.
None of this CVH funny heads stuff.

Oh I see, yes, I wouldn't buy a Renault either !
