Enquired @ local VX dealer about getting the mudflap ( Facory fitted) sorted. Mudflap itself is not the problem, the middle of 3 securing self tappers has sheared, so the flap needs to come of, remander of sheared screw removed and new screw fittiing.

Here's the nub, the car was bought from then June 04,has just over 13K on the clock has full VX SH.I am informed that the mudflaps are not covered under 3 year warranty. VX don't sell self tapper seperately, i need to buy complete flap set!!.

Anyone got VX customer care contact details?

>>The mudflaps would not have been "factory-fitted", they'll have been "dealer-fit" before delivery, hence the exclusion from the manufacturers warranty.

agreed,But dont see them being covered under warranty anyway, wear and tear item.
Lot of fuss over one screw though?

Hi folks

Hope you have had a better start to the New Year than I have had.

Had my Seat Leon serviced end of Nov but it broke down end of Dec. Oil warning lights came on. I stopped car called RAC took me to garage.

Previous to this car seemed perfectly fine no noise - nothing!

Turns out car had been running low on oil - breather clogged up!
Needs new short engine. Dont use dealer as couldnt find reason for a previous fault so use independant vw garage who I had been recommended and been happy with..

3 weeks later they are now fitting me with a reconditioned short engine and building it up using parts off existing engine.

My problem - Do I trust car. Do I keep or trade in? As you can imagine looking at bill for £1,500plus. Will the car run ok in future or will having a recon cause problems of its own?

Any advice or opinions gratefully received

Anniej

Thanks didnt know this. We have made sure the car is serviced at the suggested intervals so guess they have used the method you described. Will ring them Mon and make sure about the oil pump.

Having a couple of problems with our M Reg Corsa, hope someone can help.....

Rear wiper been faulty for a while but its now stopped completely. How easy is it to DIY replace? Roughly how much does a new motor cost?

Also, I've noticed over the past week or so that the rear screen heater isnt working. Any ideas what the likely fault is, what I should be checking first?

Thanks Read more

If they've both stopped sounds like bad earth.

Wifes car (A4) went in to the dealership before christmas to sort a couple more electrical maladies and to replace the underguards which acted as a snowplough and fell off. Aside from popping bulbs with enough frequency to keep Osram's share price sky high (Want a laugh - reason . . . "it's due to the cold snap Mrs Scott. The sudden heat of the bulb coming on in cold air blows 'em." Have you even heard such pish!!) these was a commotion of snaps crackles and pops from behind the dash, Sounded to me like relays switching on and off and this was occurring even with no keys in the ignition.
Anyway long story short. Car booked in to an Audi garage, diagnosed as "air conditioning motor". Car sent home and re-booked in. work done snap crackles and pops seemingly gone. She goes back to work in January plugs in mobile to hands free - doesn't work. Phones dealership again as obviously when AC being worked on they haven't connected something back correctly. Response - "we have no record of having worked on the dash of your car" Car booked in to be checked (again) diagnosed as a broken wiring loom. sent home again still not working. Car in again yesterday to be fixed - apparently - but not done as "the leasing co wouldn't authorise the repairs". Of course they wouldn't!!! Why should the leasing co pay to fix the garages shoddy workmanship!! So now in catch 22. Garage says not their fault ("all our work was underneath the car madam" - more pish IMHO), leasing co says not their responsibility (correctly) hower the missus is still left with a car (tool of her job) that doesn't work. We are in catch 22. what can we do here?
Sorry if this is a bit confusing . . .

Aston Green Audi (in process of changing their name to Slough Audi) have so far been very good for both sales and service, largely because I have each time dealt with the same person at service reception (Mark Dobson). This can make a great deal of dfference - with so many steel-and-glass palaces there is a different person on every time, who has no knowledge of what the workshop has (or hasn't) done.

My Avensis hads its first MOT and an intermediate service yesterday. On the service notes it mentions corroded discs, front and rear, on the 31st Jan 06 the 3 year warranty expires, I questioned why the discs werent under warranty, they said they're not. Who do I turn to now, total charge for service and MOT on a 52 plate Toyota Avensis, £879.62. Read more

A friend wants a Vauxhall/Bedford/Suzuki (rascal), or Daihatsu Hi Jet, type van. He has no idea with cars and has asked me to help him look. It will be used very much as a second vehicle to help with some house referb & to take his dogs to shows (no more than 50 miles)
Any info on these vans would be good only wants to spend 1200 quid max.
I seem to remember that the Suzuki engine is only good for about 60k?
I know very little about the Daihatsu so anything on them would be good
I've tried to get him to look at Citroen C15 as these seem cheap but he has a width restriction by the side of his garage. This being the reason behind a Micro van

What's it like to be driving? Is the noise absoutely deafening? Does smoke pour out from under the bonnet? Etc...

I was pondering this on the way home; the thoughts of pieces of engine coming into contact at 70mph aren't nice. Read more

As I was driving to work the other morning, the RDS picks up a traffic report about lorry crash in the contraflow between J17/J18 of M4. A couple of minutes later, a second RDS report from a different radio station again goes on about a lorry stuck in contraflow in the same place. So I brace myself for a very slow journey to work as I was about about to hit the start of the contraflow and (allegedly) some rather long queues........ Except that there was no accident, not even a broken down lorry. There was'nt even any sign of a recent accident, not a single cone out of place, no police, no highway patrol. Yet both traffic reports had independently reported an accident had just occurred involving a lorry in the contraflow, and that people had been ringing in about it. The funny thing was that the traffic that morning was running through the roadworks some 15 MPh slower than usual - coincidence ? Maybe phantom traffic reports are a new initiative to slow us all down at roadworks - anybody else come across this scheme ? Read more

Like the elderly lady who phoned her husband to warn him that she had heard on the radio that some idiot was driving the wrong way down the M6.

"What do you mean, some idiot?" he asked. "There's hundreds of them......."
