Only by telephoning the owner and asking him for it.

I myself have been in this position several times and only had the Registration Number and no VIN.

HPI won't even tell you what the VIN should be. I suppose it's understandable, really, because this information, if given, could well be used in a fraudulent way.

You can just do an HPI check using the Registration Number but it's not recommended.

I was afraid that might be the Case.
well I will try an HPi with just the Reg and see how it goes.

If you know the dealer that supplied it new, then they may be able to help you. These sort of details have have long since been on computerised records at the supplying dealers. Alternatively, what about the DVLA?

as a dealer i do a hpi vehicle data check which requires a registration number only,if this ties up with the vehicle and i want to buy it then i will do a full check.
maybe your garage can do this vehicle check?its quite cheap via the internet if they have a hpi account.
Why do you want the chassis no. anyway is it to check the build date or country of origin that you want to know?

Someone who owes me some money has told me his Company is in Receivership. Theirfore Can not pay me at the present time.
He's Driving a Jeep Cherokee. which when I asked was told it belongs to another Company he's doing some Work for.

I have a Suspicion the Jeep belongs to Him. Theirfore my reason for wanting to do an HPi check. If I find out the Jeep is his their will be some sorting out to be done,

the hpi only tells you basic stuff like write off etc it will tell you if there is outstanding finance on it but when you ring the finance no, on the report the finance company will only give basic information and i would be surprised if they shared with you any information that would contravine the data protection act.
I suggest you pay the £10 fee to the dvla and ask them who the vehicle is registered to explain your reason why and if it is as you say then they wont deny you the knowledge but do NOT commit perjury as it is a big fine and imprisonable.
Once armed with an address and name you could either follow up from there or use a private investigator.
One final thing why dont you file him in court and go for bankrupsy if the amount is large or small claims court if sum small?

Going to the Small claims Court was going to be my next step.
I wanted to make sure he had some assets before going to Court.
Thanks again for the advice.
