Hello,

Have recently had a spell of bad luck with my 306 as has been to three garages to eventually find a relatively simple fault - coroded wire linking ignition to fuel pump. Rear wiper has ceased working since at garage.
To avoid putting car into garage again might it be a problem I could fix myself? I'm no car expert but am able to try simple stuff (eg fitting new wiper motor)
The correct fuse in in right place according to maual and is not damaged or blown as far as can see.
Wiper has stopped in the up position.

ANy advice would be good.

cheers

It has the graceful shape and lines that the BMW 5-series would have had if the design brief hadn't been given to an American.

Can anyone please confirm, from actual, personal, hands on experience, if the Uno Turbo lump will fit into a Panda ( not the new one ) engine bay ? Not worried about the fuel/electrics side of things, just if the lump will fit, will the driveshafts pick up and will the bonnet close? Someone must have tried this at some time.
Thank you, Pete. Read more

As a complete aside (just for record if anyone taps in uno turbo on forum search), i do know that the engine does fit in a Fiat / Bertone X19. My mate did it.

Hi people, i will be travelling to Oban in Bonny Scotland as from Fri. I will be stopping off at the travelodge off the A82 near Dumbarton, would anyone advise me going through Glasgow on the M8 or go round the long way? Cheers

The reason im bringing back my old topic is that i thought i'd let you people know how i got on!!

Going into Glasgow i went on the M8 then came off to join the A82 (the Great Western Rd) which is quite busy having to stick onto the outside lane to avoid the bus lane!!

Went to Oban to travel the ferry to the Isle of Mull & back in a week, then going back down south i took the route via Erskine Bridge keeping on to the M8, no problem whats so ever, just the wet weather.

Last time I stripped down a wheel bearing for my old trailer I seemed to recall from my days in engineering that just about any bearing can be identified and resourced from a bearing stockist via the number stamped on the outer race.

I didn't need the bearing, I just regreased the old one, so I never tried getting one. I would have imagined getting one would be fairly easy though.

A thread over in technical matters got me thinking where one guy was quoted £122 for a BMW bearing. I suggested he went this route if he could.

Am I right? Read more

Most wheel bearings now are a complete hub unit, without seperate
bearings inside, and not adjustable.

Yes, and some (eg Vauxhall) even have the ABS sensor built in! That's why an Astra rear wheel bearning can cost £250!

Can anyone tell me where the air intake picks up. Tried to trace it back from the filter but the duct disappears behind a panel?Hollow on route to work prone to filling up with water so I'd rather be sure before plunging in.

Given how popular this car is in the BR someone must know?

thanks

Air intake ,
last weekend I changed the fog light unit on my TDCI whish was quite awkward. To make it more simple I removed the black plastic cover plate which fits under the bumper spoiler back towards the sump , when feeling inside I came across this air intake and it is very low level under the radiator on the left hand side when standing at the front of the car , think it would need some force for water to travel up it though !!!

check c:\\windows\\system32\\control.exe is there and not corrupted. Should be 8kB, mine's version 5.1.2600.0. Probably a wild shot, but also check c:\\windows\\control.ini for unusuals.

Having visited the Nürburgring several times by car, I have however never 'bitten the bullet', paid my 15 Euros, and taken my own car on a circuit of the North Loop. I've always just spectated.
It's not that I fear hitting the fence or whatever, it's just that if I should encounter the totally unexpected, or if someone extremely rapid should encounter me, and in the happy event that I live to tell the tale, my insurance company won't want to know. I know that plenty of very average cars are routinely taken round - so have they all organised special insurance? or have the death wish?

My wife and I were out looking at cars today and she took a liking to the Mitsubishi Colt (apart from the garish blue colour around the gear stick and centre console). So, I took a look at HJ's road test and I took fright at the comment about the handling quirk. If this could have serious consequences at speed, then I am afraid it isn't for me.

Anyone else have experience of this? Does the manufacturer know about it? Read more

Yes, but the auto version is not much cheaper, nor much
more economical, than the equivalent Megane.
