hello can anyone give me some advice please, my daughter is looking to buy a mg zr car 2004 but am a bit concern'ed after reading the bad points on this site about the head gasket failure has anyone got a mg zr and have they had any problems if so what? much appreciate any advice thanks.

Mate of mine had the head gasket go on his on the M25. Avoid unless thoroughly checked over and thoroughly cheap.

Avoid, going by the tone of reports on this engine/manufacturer combination. Or should that be non-manufacturer.
Still, it was the best selling hot hatch in the UK in 2003, so someone must have been doing something right (the salesmen..?)

Cant see a 2004 car having head gasket issues and should have an up to date service history. HGF is usually down to neglected servicing (coolent changes for example). 1.4 is far less prone, 1.8's I would say do have far higher than average failures.

ZR is quite a good car for the price you can pick them up for, especially if its a facelift model

No different to 1.6 ie same engine,but gather the mods made to MG made a big difference.Still selling well in my area anyway,just means travelling further to get one,I`ve lost count of new MG`s around my way, prices must be right to buy a bargain
