Does anyone know when the S2000 is either being replaced or phased out?
Is the current model likely to be in production for some time?

Going to get my front pads changed next week as my garage recommended I get them done within 2000 miles. Been ringing around for quotes and they've been so wildly different I'm not sure how much I should be paying.

The fast-fit places quote between 70 and 120 pounds, my local independent 54 pounds, and the one my dad uses 80 pounds. How much should I be looking to pay, in your experience?

From what I thought it's a pretty quick and simple job, so why is it so expensive? Read more

Me too,I do a few for neighbours as well, get them their pads at trade and charge them twenty, seems fair.

Compressors ..... can someone here advise me on the minimum spec I should be considering. Don't want anything too fancy or expensive, its only for our home garage. Main use would be car paint spraying but it would be handy if I could connect a few air tools such as a cutter. Been looking in Machine Mart but there are just so many ......

Thanks Read more

Just drove back to uni today, and happened to notice that there are mk6 Celicas with 80-100,000 miles on the clock up for £3000. Does anyone here have any experience of the GT/ST FWD (most likely these are the one's I saw) variants (re: driving/everyday practicality etc), and presumably they're typically Toyota (reliable)? A friend had the GT4 version of this car, and damn, it was so quick! If you don't have a problem with an import, they can be had for about 4k now. 250bhp, 4wd, a rally car on the road. Awesome.

All,

I'm currently in the process of replacing my clutch cable on the trusty old 306DT. It is the 'self adjusting' type.

I think for some reason the cable out of the packed is already fully adjusted, does any one know how to undujust it?

Problem...I have followed the exact same routing but it appears to be about 1" short. I can make it fit, but then the pedal will not depress it is solid.....very confused....the haynes manual is a waste of time...it says nothing about removing the intercooler and the induction pipe from the turbo to gain access to the bulkhead to replace it.....

Any help of tips would be greatly appriecated.

Cheers

Hi

I am replacing the brakes on my megane in the next week or so and wondered about doing the timing belt and water pump myself whilst I do the brakes. Is it a difficult job? Should the haynes manual tell me everything I need to know? Any advice?

Cheers

Hi

It is a 1996, 1.6 petrol.

Question Old Charade
Al 42

My mums Daihatsu Charade (1992) has now done 59K. This was my fathers last car and therefore has has a lot of sentimental value.

In the last 13 yrs it has only had 2 oil changes, 2 rear exhaust boxes and a couple of sets of tyres - nothing else. It's never failed to start or broken down and always flys through the MOT. The engine still seems quite sweet and doesn't smoke or use any oil in between the 5 year chages!!

As a new year treat for the car I'm going to get the coolant, B/fluid and pads, oil, plugs etc changed and; the timing belt.

Is there anything else I should consider to prolong the cars life and, could anyone advise me if it's only the belt that needs to be changed or, is there anything else associated with it that needs to be replaced at the same time. Also, would I be best advised to have this done at a dealer or is the belt on these easily done at any garage? Read more

A friend of mine has a new Micra on loan while his Disco is in for repair. It has a proximity fob which allows the doors to be opened by pushing a little rubber button on the door handle, the engine is started by turning a knob where the ign.lock would be.The question came up-how do you get in if the battery goes flat?Examination of the fob revealed a cap with a folding key hidden inside.Only thing is we cannot find a lock to put it in,surely it would have to be on a door to be of any use.Can a Micra owner shed light on this? we are thinking of buying a 2 seater, but with a budget of around 20k the quandry is, do we go for the bottom of the range 161bhp tt roadster, or a new top of the range mx5 2.0 160 bhp.
bearing in mind the tt will soon be an outgoing model. depreciation costs have then got to be considered, the car would probably be changed again in 30/36 months.
any advice? Read more

Groom foam cleaner from Halfords etc - black & orange can plus a damp cloth or nail brush for the tough stuff.
