Just drove back to uni today, and happened to notice that there are mk6 Celicas with 80-100,000 miles on the clock up for £3000. Does anyone here have any experience of the GT/ST FWD (most likely these are the one's I saw) variants (re: driving/everyday practicality etc), and presumably they're typically Toyota (reliable)?
|
Is this the model before the current one?
|
Yeah, the one with the twin-headlamps (Jag-style)
|
Not so much Jag style as odd Japanese style.
A company I worked for had one of these as a pool car some years back and I drove it occasionally. Useless back seat, so-so performance (it was only a 1.8 I think) and a surprisingly high bonnet are what I remember of it. Only ever drove it in town so I couldn't tell you much about its handling.
I preferred the Alfa 146s that we had.

"I preferred the Alfa 146s that we had."
-- although the toyota would have held it's value better & generally been more reliable
-- older Celica wasn't a bad car, just wasn't much to get excited about, new model is much better

So hypothetically, Celica 1.8 ST, or Focus 1.6 LX? If it were a vs. match, I imagine the Celica would win style and reliability, the Ford would win the practicality and cheaper running costs...but who would win the driving pleasure?
|
The Focus is renowned for being a good-handling car, but you might find the performance a little lacking in a 1.6
What do you want out of a car? The two are really quite different.

Driving pleasure is the most important thing in my book. It has to be good on the motorway and country lanes - town driving is less important...
|
Why not try test-driving one of each?
Why a Celica Vs a Focus? Are these your only 2 options? It's an odd comparison - 2 quite different cars.

A friend had the GT4 version of this car, and damn, it was so quick! If you don't have a problem with an import, they can be had for about 4k now. 250bhp, 4wd, a rally car on the road. Awesome.
Alex.
