Compressors ..... can someone here advise me on the minimum spec I should be considering. Don't want anything too fancy or expensive, its only for our home garage. Main use would be car paint spraying but it would be handy if I could connect a few air tools such as a cutter. Been looking in Machine Mart but there are just so many ......
Thanks

Mine is a 25L 9CuFt/Min 2HP one and is fine for a few small air tools and a 1.5mm jet spray gun.
Mine came from Screwfix but Machine mart etc all pretty much the same. Only problem with mine was after a long period of non-use it blew its start capacitor up, which cost £ 10 for a replacement. Worth buying a decent length of hose & quickfit connectors.

Water/moisture trap in the line to the spray gun helps.
I've used a tiddly little compressor to paint a car and so long as you give it a moment to get it's breath back it worked fine.

buy the biggest compressor you can afford/store

Spraying does not need a huge compressor but if you are going to use for cutting or impact wrenches and other air tools get the biggest you can.

I use a 2HP 25 Ltr Compressor but charge a 100 Ltr seperate take in the roof of the garage ( Old Propane Bottle ) this provides a very good reserve and I can either use the big tand before the regulator or at a lowerer pressure after the reg. Two water seperators one staight out of the compressor and one prior to my main feed in the garage. Hope that helps. Regards Peter

if you are looking long term and want to get the most use out of it you want as said the biggest and best and that is 3 horsepower single phase and at least 125 litre tank but ideally 150 litre,it will cost about £400 but will last a life time at home.

If spraying car panels, you do need a tank about a metre long, the half metre long cheap end of the market empty the tank in a few passes, and then you have to wait for it to refill, meanwhile the paint goes off, so you can get a bit of a dull finish, and zebra stripes.

Thanks for all the good advice everyone, going to have a good look for one today.
