I seem to remember on my old 940 that the same relay that operated the glow plugs did the dash lights as well. If yours is a petrol car there may be another relay which is intermittently faulty. Just clutching at straws.

Question Seat Leon radio
Jack Bacon

Great car, had it 4+ years now, but the MW and LW won't work on the radio and even FM is rather inconsistent. Someone mentioned that the aerial booster may have gone.

Does anyone out their have any experience with this, and where is the aerial booster if there is one?

Thanks, Jack Read more

I bought a sony cdx-gt300 head unit from halfords for my seat leon fr 1.9tdi (54 reg). It was fine in built up city areas but on the motorway I could not get am or FM reception! Went back to halfords this morning and they then fitted www.autoleads.co.uk/database/productImages/PC5-52....g which was 13 quid at halfords (more pricey than norm but i cannot be bothered to go back a 3rd time). Now it works fine. THat was a UK seat leon fr.

Question Cavalier MK3

Can anyone tell me how to remove the heater control panel above the stereo. I've removed the temp.display and little vent toggles & the 2 screws behind said gauge, but panel remains. Is it a removal of part of the dashboard or easier than that.

IIRC from my ownership of a Mk3 ..

Remove the shround around the steering wheel - three screws underneath the column and two behind the steering wheel boss. To get to these you will need to rotate the steering wheel about 90 degrees to the right and left from straight ahead to expose the little plastic screw covers - remove these to get at the small screws. You may need to squeeze the plastic to unclip the two halves.

With the column shroud removed you will need to remove the trim beneath the instrument cluster. To do this getly pull in the centre of the trim piece and gently prise the ends from the fixings . These can break quite easily.

Once the lower trim is removed you will see one or two screw. Remove these and the heater controls area should come forward as far as the Bowden cables will allow.

Refitting is the reverse of removal, as they say.

Can anyone give me some information on obtaining spares for the Hyundai Galloper? I am trying to get RHD Headlamps fro a LHD 4 X 4 and I am finding it very difficult?

The original Galloper was based on the MK1 Shogun/Pajero so the lights from that should do the job,i think the later Galloper is based on the newer Shogun/Pajero but if you have a look at the Shogun/Pajero it should soon become apparent.

This continually bugs me.

Walking down main shopping street this lunchtime I saw another small van parked in limited (half hour) parking with a hand written note on the dash as subject. This type of van usually has cigarette packets lying everywhere and the odd tool and scraps of notepaper complete the scene.

I see this often and assume that if a 'workman' is having to work in a premises they think they have the right to preferential parking nearby or outside. I know they may need to get their tools but what's the difference from doing a note that says 'shopping in Woolworths' or even 'working all day in the office over the road' --- I could try this.

As I have never seen vehicle with such a sign with a parking ticket I can only assume that most traffic wardens accept this!

Does anyone agree or am I just being fickle here

No, but I did have a laptop in one hand, briefcase
in the other and some paper files wedged under my arm
to carry -- Not particularly easy! ---- These are my
tools

I have a similar toolkit, but I carry laptop and files in a wheelie briefcase-cum-laptop bag. Mine's a Belkin, which cost abt £40 from dabs.com, but there are lots to choose from. It's a brilliant thing, one of my best purchases in recent years.

With those sort of tools to carry, you don't need a carry to carry them, let alone to park it right outside the door.

Having problems with loss of power whenever the fuel tank is below quarter full.
The car is Vectra 1.8 LS registered April 2004.
Fine the rest of the time but fails to respond to accelerator and splutters when this occurs.
Could it be dirt in fuel tank?

could be blocked tank breather. See if releasing the filler cap fixes it.

OK - so our 'friends' in the north are arranging a meet, so let's get the ball rolling on the southern meet. Obviously the south is bigger than the north, so several will have to be arranged.

I'm based in Brighton, but willing to travel as far as Southampton and Bexhill, maybe a bit further if it has to be!

For my 2cents worth, there is a nice pub in Shoreham that does 2 meals for £10 (only Mon - Fri) but its good food. For the more hungry, they also do a 32oz steak for £15, but I had the other day, so I think my body will still be digesting that come Christmas.

Come on - let's show these northerners that we know how to party....and how to get in to pubs ;-) Read more

I vote we get together in the one place we can
all get to. It's called "The Backroom" and you will
find a "door" in nearly every home and office in the
UK. Drinks are as cheap as you like too.

I drink to that and, if you are buying $$, mines a pint!

Re a meet, there are also loads of us in the west country, Mare and Bikemade3 are the ones that spring to mind though I have picked up on the fact that there are at least half a dozen regulars between Bristol and Exeter. I would travel perhaps as far as Salisbury, is that any good?

Hi, I have a question re charging a spare car battery.
I have a spare battery that I leave on charge via a timer, which I allow a 15 minute charge twice a day, therefore having a fully charged spare battery, (reason being that my car, parked in the garage, can be sat there for a week or more without being used and I have had a flat battery on the odd occassion, and also as I have this battery there is no point in leaving it flat),is it OK to do this and do I need to leave the filler caps off/loose, as obviously they are not loose when the car is charging a battery when on the move, and leaving them loose evaporates the water.

Might sound a silly question but hey it might also help others.

Thanks Read more

derrick

Yes that is what I am trying to get at, the battery is fully charged and I want to trickle charge it twice daily for 15 minutes a time via a timer, so as when being charged electrially on the vehicle it is being charged electrically via the charger, my main concern is that if leaving the caps loose that it will evaporate the water covering the plates.

I don't want to go to the expense of purchasing a "battery tender" as suggested by THe Growler, as surely a charged up battery trickle charged twice daily,(keeping the battery fully charged) via a timer does the same job as with the "tender" therefore leaving the caps on should be the should be the same with the "tender" or charge, or am I still missing something?

One of the batteries is 2½ years old and the other one (spare) is unknown but probably less than 5 years.

Re islandman and disconnecting therefore immobolising alarm, this is a big no as the insurance stipulates the car should be left with alarm/immobilser on or insurance for theft/damage is void, not worth the risk re the question I am posing.

Thanks

Hi there, I have a 2004 reg Ford galaxy TDi PD 130, two weeks ago it had its 40,000 mile service. I was driving it the other day, and i had to apply the brakes full on. As soon as i did this, the car beeped thre times at me and the brake system warning light started flashing, then went out after flashing for about a minute and then stopped. It has now done this dunring heavy braking ever since! i am wondering whether it is the fluid level??? I really am considering getting rid of the thing, as its just one problem after the other. any help would be appreciated Thanks!

I am looking to spend c£5-6k on my next car. I want something that is cheap to run and insure, reliable and no bigger than say a focus.
Any recommedations would be gratefully received Read more

Just to jump on the bandwagon, go and test drive a Focus, then go and test drive anything else that gets suggested.

I'll bet you any money you end up with the Focus.
