Have the back seats up and carpet out of the 306 while fixing leaks and drying the carpet.
Underneath the insulation I found several square chunks of glass - I assume this is car glass.
The panel that the boot 'catch' is located under seems to have some undulations, although I don't know if these are just loading dents - the strange thing is that the panels the lights are mounted on don't seem to have any.
Is there anyway to see if a new boot has been welded in?
Also the front nearside wing has some different colour paint on it. Maybe this means it was a second hand wing?
Apart from any safety aspects, there's the fact that if the chassis is bent then I won't be able to get these leaks to stop! ;-) Read more
Hi all
I have Continental premium contact 205 55R16 on the Mondy estate at the moment.
After 24k the front are nearly down to the wear bar and a close shave this morning (sudden breaking on wet lane, lots of ABS judder and brown pants!) - has reminded me to start planning for new tyres.
I know these cars are popular amongst BRoomers - So any thoughts on what to go for next? same again or would I be missing a chance to get a better all round tyre? I don't push it in the dry but more wet weather grip would be reassuring.
cheers
Dan

Yokohama A539 would be my choice since their forte is wet braking; which you rate above dry roadholding, Big Bird.
They came out 5-6 years ago, and I'm hoping they will still be available for my Primera when the current ones are up for replacement as I said when I posted on a tyre thread in september:
"Interesting diamond shaped tread pattern, quiet, good ride, excellent wet braking and resistance to aquaplaning, good wet cornering, average dry braking and cornering.
I was going to try something else this time, but Swmbo hit something which punctured the casing eight miles from home and decided to try to get back! She arrived with the Yoko smoking and completely flat, and I was amazed at how tough and Swmbo proof these tyres obviously are, and booked in for another to replace it, and when tyres are needed (they last well too), will continue buying these A539s".
Anyone know of a really (really) cheap co where I can get a supermini for a few days? Read more
I rent cars quite a bit in London and the cheapest way I do it is to go via Holiday Autos as they have a very cheap £2 a day excess waiver product. Normally this costs about £10 a day from the hire care office itself to reduce the £400 or so excess (remember the excess operates even if damage occurs to the vehicle that is not you fault eg vandalism or someone driving into you).
The way to get the cheapest quote is to find another online car rental broker eg www.carjet.co.uk and then get a quote for the car ex the excess waiver...then call Holiday Autos and use their price match promise then ask for the excess waiver to be added.... This way I get car rental at my local Alamo/National at about 20% off...so about £69 all in for a 3 day rental. Also I book the cheapest Ford Ka and as they have practically none of these anyhow (I know as I walk past the depot every day) you always get a Corsa...
As an aside I find watching what turns up at the car rental office as a new vehicle an interesting proxy for what might not be selling well in the normal market...The National place near me seems to be changing vehicles almost every 2-3 months and its forecourt is stuffed with Corsas, Peugeot 307s like they are going out of fashion, Micras and Skoda Octavias, Vectras...plus a surprising number of Saab 9 5s.....
