I personally raised this with WD re Yaris.
IIRC from their MDs prompt reply. They do not have any data on the Yaris.
I concluded that a Yaris was a good buy.
An American article on engine sludge, Power flushing etc.

I know oil change intervals vary by operating conditions but once again I note the often recommended US period is much shorter than our 6K /6 months.
from the link....
"Most professionals in the auto-repair industry would suggest 3-5,000 miles regardless of the type of oil used and not go more than 4 months regardless of miles." Read more
Synthetic oil molecules are stronger than mineral molecules and are more "shear stable."
Oxidation occurs when an oxygen molecule replaces one or more hydrogen or carbon bonding sites, resulting in peroxides, causing sludge. Mineral oils are less stable than are synthetics.
The very large Viscosity Index Improving additive molecules are more prone to shearing than are oil molecules, mainly because of their molecular arrangement and size. These are more prone to "permanent" shear, leaving the large unattached molecules to thicken the oil over time. If heated and oxidized, these remnants also contribute to sludge. Synthetics require very few viscosity improvers compared to mineral oils.
The more shear stable oils are necessary for the longer oil change intervals and these are now specified by MB etc. Prevention of sludge is better than any cure and high quality oils help the prevention of sludge.
When I was a lad (late 70s to early 80s) I had a toy. It consisted of a cardboard road on which to drive my Dinky's and Matchboxes. You could link up sections of road, with roundabouts, traffic lights and (iirc) bridges. I can't for the life of me remember what it was called, and my mother has long since got rid of the original, but it would be ideal to 're-educate' number 1 son (see weird child thread), so I would appreciate it if any BRers could help by at least remembering what its called.

Many thanks RF. The search begins.

Yse its the alarm. On my old 306 the alarm was so sensitive the siren was disconnected, leaving just the lights to flash. Sort out the alarm (or disconnect it) and your problem is solved.
The plastic rear screen of our 1998 Megane has 2 horizontal cloudy bars which Renovo (mentioned in HJ's FAQ's) has not improved. Would the more expensive Hindsight product be any better? The alternative is a new panel £405 fitted by Renault! Read more

Hi ,just been driving down the infamous A3 and M25 in surrey today and have been making casual notes to the standard of driving on this stretch of road ,which sadly reflects any major A-road or motorways in Britain.
Without sounding like a grumpy old git,the goverment needs to do something before we end up in grid lock.
What am i on about?
Right take the A3 tonight heading for London ,the inside lane no cars, the middle lane doing 45mph and is solid with bumper to bumper traffic and the outside lane doing 40mph and is the same nose to tail
Why on earth do people who are not overtaking have to use the middle and outside lanes when there is no one using the inside lane.?
The main people guilty of this are the upmarket car possie in their pink fluffy dice X5s,anyone who is driving a merc, bmw, women(there will be some comments do doubt!),oaps driving micras or other slow moving cars and someone who is day dreaming and has no idea that faster moving traffic is behind them and they and others doing the same are causing the domino effect all down the outside lane.
Then as seen tonight a pompus Audi owner who cant wait ,uses the inside lane at well over the speed limit and zig zags thru the traffic on a suicide misson, who nearly hit three cars.
Cant the traffic police sort this ,maybe a tv ad ?,or how about charging people by the mile if they are using the overtaking lane !(i know that will cause a stir!)
I agree we pay far too much for driving cars in this country and toll roads and limits are the only way to go ,to stop idiots clogging up our roads
But surley it would be money well spent to encourage people to drive better on our A-roads and M-ways allowing all the traffic to flow freely.
i welcome you comments

I agree. If the motorway is clogged up, lane 1 is the best bet all round. Safer, easy to get off if you reach your turn, or decide to try a detour having scanned the traffic ahead and consulted the atlas. Also, as a bonus, it is sometimes fastest.
I'm thinking seriously of getting shut of my Accord Tourer for a New Vectra 1.9 150 ps Estate.
I have always been a Vauxhall fan and the Accord was my first non-Vauxhall in twenty-five years. However, I have had more problems with my Accord in 18 months than I had with my Omega in nine years. The electric tailgate is still giving problems and it's a day's journey to take it to the dealer - that's a slight exaggeration - but dealers are few and far apart. In France it's 45 miles to the nearest Honda dealer. Granted, the problems have not been major, but they are niggly. Coupled with the exorbitant charges for services - almost £200 for the first service, which was basically an oil change.
Anyone care to comment?

It was the early ones that suffered from problems, the later
ones are fine cars. Ideal for a nice relaxed drive to
France, you could get it serviced there and save money. Plenty
of dealers around of course. 2.2HDi estate would be the one.
No?
Non, merci.
Ok looks like getting a recent car with some serious oomph that handles amazingly well is gonna be out of my price range.
I need a car pretty quickly, and I can't be bothered to scout all over the country looking at used cars. Oh no, looks like the prime contender is gonna be a Ford Mondeo. I have seen 6 month old TDCi 130 LX Auto for 9.5k. How does the 130 TDCi drive with Auto?
I have driven a 2004 2.0 LX manual for a while, and amazing through the bends, but didn't have enough low down grunt for me. Is the 2.5 V6 with auto any better?
Funny how on the B road to office today, the 407 SW HDi I have rented could not keep up with a M reg 740i, just too much body roll.

I had 100,000 trouble-free miles out of an automatic V6 Laguna. They're not all bad.

Forte produce an excellent radiator sealant which stays active in the system and does not gum anything up (apart from leaks).
It is used to great effect on Xantia matrices by my local cit indie.
