When I was a lad (late 70s to early 80s) I had a toy. It consisted of a cardboard road on which to drive my Dinky's and Matchboxes. You could link up sections of road, with roundabouts, traffic lights and (iirc) bridges. I can't for the life of me remember what it was called, and my mother has long since got rid of the original, but it would be ideal to 're-educate' number 1 son (see weird child thread), so I would appreciate it if any BRers could help by at least remembering what its called.
TIA Alastair

I always wanted one of those! I ended up with just one large board type thing with a fixed layout. I can almost see the adverts for the one you mean.

Yes,I recall this, but not the name. There were cast metal traffic lights to go with it,I still have one,a black and white post(like a Belisha beacon)with a box on top with T/lights facing in four directions. When my son was young the vogue was to have a mat with a road layout on it.

Matchbox "roadways"

Things like that were not around in my day. I made roads out of playing cards. I remember buying my first toy car that had real "steering" wheels. They were turned by a small wheel thing on the top desguised as a driving school sign. It was an A40 i think.

The Roadways is quite valuable now. the more recent ones are plastic and you should be to find some on eBay. Search under "motor city" in the toys - diecast - matchbox section. e.g tinyurl.com/apl5c

RF i think your car was a A60 e.g tinyurl.com/can6m . Corgi did a similar one with a VW beetle
