my mate let his son take his car yesturday as his sons car was in the garage. he was stopped by the police and given a 7 day producer. it now turns out that his son was not coverd to drive the car on his own insurance like he thought he was nor is he coverd under his dads cover. i know that he will get done for driving with no insurance but my mate wants to know if he will be done for letting him drive the car. My Mitsubishi Galant 2.0 Classic will be 3 years old in two weeks time. I rang my Mitsubishi dealer today and they quoted me £636 to extend the manufacturers warranty for 12 months (this includes breakdown cover).
Do you think this is worth it?
I am thinking of selling the car within the next 9 months or so - would having a manufaturers warranty make a big difference to the money I might get for it (I estimate it is worth around £5500)?
Thanks
Jason

Thanks for saying hello DD... life follows a very different pattern these days and rarely get the luxury of any forum participation time apart from a couple of make specific ones.
Just had time for a cruise round the other day and couldn't resist this thread.
You see what gets me is when I look over a newly purchased used car (at say £6000 or so) covered by a purchased warranty. Often they will just have had a "sales service" which means if it starts it's done.... and yet be overdue timing belt, coolant and brake fluid changes... often with old/dirty filters.
On many occasions the warranty cost would have covered all this work which is valid preventative maintenance.. the warranty booklet in the glovebox doesn't help prevent a disaster one jot.
And the thing is that the dealers and the warranty companies will usually accept the premium while ignoring the fact the the condition it is handed over in actually breaks the terms of the warranty from day one so even before you start any claim is on rocky ground.

The Felicia isn't a re-badged Polo. It's a revision of the
Favorit from 1990.
Aha, I always thought it was their first entirely new car since VW took them over. Didn't know it was a rehashed Favorit, thought it was Polo based. Dont know where I got that from now.
I see the forthcoming replacement for the Suburu Imprezza uses the Miller cycle technology, which increases efficiency by 10 to 15%.
If it is that effective, it seems strange that since this development has been around since the late 1940`s, why other manufacturers have not adopted this technology.

A Miller cycle engine is very little different in concept from conventional engines, certainly supercharged engines. In fact a turbocharged engine with VVT is further from the Otto cycle engine concept than a Miller cycle engine is.
Help needed please. My son's reversing lights don't work. The bulbs have tested fine and all the fuses are o.k. I then went to look for a switch but struggled to find it. There is nothing on the selector assembly. There is a unit on the rear of the gearbox which I believe to be the speedo sensor. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Read more

Has anyone got one? I've heard that reception can be patchy. I'd love to be able to get Planet Rock and Kerrang! Radio on the move as well as Radio 4. Read more
>>My only experience is with Freeview which sounds pretty good. >>
I've mentioned earlier that Freeview radio stations are generally transmitted at much higher quality levels than DAB i.e. without the compression levels needed to get as many stations as possible on air.
Incidentally, Freeview channels are being completely revamped on October 18th, so a retune will be required if your set top box doesn't do it automatically or you have a PCI Freeview TV card.

Nice!
Does your car have a rear spoiler fitted?
Options:
- Yes. I have more than one because my car's so fast I need the extra weight to slow it down.
- Yes. I have an aftermarket spoiler that I fitted so I look cool. And boy, do I.
- Yes. I have a factory-fitted spoiler, but it's definitely a spoiler.
- Yes. I have an Audi TT that was recalled to have a spoiler fitted so I don't die.
- I have a bit of bodywork that appears to be designed to do the job of a spoiler.
- I have an MPV with perpendicular roof bars that I've moved to the back to try and make my C8 look a bit like the A Team van.
- No. My car's backside is naked.
- I have no car. What am I doing here?

Forget the speeding charge sir,I think we will be needing a

Too late, he's already taken it ;)
Hope you can help.
During a journey I noticed a metallic knocking noise at consistant regularity whilst slowing down, in gear, for a junction and also when pulling away in low gears but disappeared when in top gear. This noise also disappeared when the clutch pedal was depressed. It only happens during a journey, not from cold. The clutch is hydraulic. The gear change is fine and the car pulls OK.
Is it possible that the release bearing lever is knocking on the slave cylinder rod? And if so, what does this mean?
I have looked underneath the car and everything seems OK although it is a noise that sounds like a heat shield knocking but found nothing amiss.
I have convinced myself it is the clutch and was wondering if this is an early warning.
Any advise is much appreciated as getting desperate.
Many thanks,

I had a knocking noise coming from the front end of my old audi, 94M A6, and I think it was a driveshaft. It was not a loud knock but noticeable and clearly related to things going round, if you follow me. Is the noise connected with the transmission being under load when pulling away/slowing down for example but not when coasting? If so I would rather suspect a driveshaft or maybe on the offchance a wheel bearing. Try driving slowly in a very tight circle on both left and right lock and see if you can hear a more pronounced knock, if so almost certianly driveshaft/universal joint. My car had done 134k on the original clutch when I sold it and it was still very sound indeed with no trace of slip.
Good luck, MGs

Dad is very lucky not to be prosecuted too.
