I bought my wife a car from a well know car supermarket (Focus 1.6 Zetec in machine silver). The car was 9 months old when purchased. We bought the car in mid July but have only recently noticed that the drivers door is a slightly different shade to the rest of the car (or the rear door at least). There was no mention of the car having been repaired, and we haven't painted it.
I've contacted the garage and they say they'll get back to me.
What are my rights, I know that I should have noticed sooner and returned the car within the first few dys/weeks, but I didn't. What does this group think my best approach is with the garage, am I relying on their discression and good will, or is there some SOGA or other legal viewpoint that's in my favour.
The car is still under Ford warranty, could I prove that it hasn't been resprayed and it left the factory like this?

TIA

If it was my car I wouldn't have bothered about the mismatch (which was slight, hence taking us so long to notice), but it was the wifes car, nuff said?

As for what L'escargo said about going in all guns blazing, he's spot on. I knew that I didn't have a case for making them take the car back, so I adopted the reasonable approach of "what can you do to help me?". After I'd completed the deal I thanked the salesman, he then said that if I'd gone off on one demanding a replacement they wouldn't have done me the same deal.
It costs nothing to be nice, but costs a lot not to be!

can anyone tell me what the middle sphers do. and how i would know if there is a problem with them.i can here a tic tic as the self leveler seems to be working overtime .thanks Read more

Yes, there's a seal. Readily available from the Citroen dealer, or specialist parts suppliers such as German Swedish and French. Only costs a few pence. If changing the rear anti sink sphere, ensure that you unsrew the pipe from the sphere first, before unscrewing the sphere. If you don't it has a habit of shearing the pipe off. Fit the new seal to the pipe, and don't overtighten the union.

Is it illogical? It must be Citroen....

A friend has a 1993 model, fitted with the 2.5 litre turbo diesel engine. It has covered around 60k miles. He was driving it and there was a loud metallic knocking noise and the oil light came on. He immediately switched off and had the vehicle recovered. Plenty of oil in sump. The engine is now out and at a local engine shop, who have stripped it and cannot find any damage to bearings, crank etc. They say that oil pump is OK but drop valve, which I assume is the relief valve is marked. None of this makes sense to me as the valve limits the max pressure but if it was stuck open would it mean no pressure at all??

Any ideas, please. Read more

Update. Engine has gone to another specialist who says that the crank has broken!! Not unheard of they say!

As the proud owner of an MB 320 CDI 04 plate with 17k on the clock I continue to be amazed by the driving pleaseure it delivers. Again on the drive home from Uxbridge to West malling along the worst stretch of the M25 my MPG averages a stunning 45.5 at an average speed of 60MPH over 65 miles in 1hour 10 mins.

For a 3.2 litre engine thats very impressive and as the engine beds in it just keeps improving.

I Love it

The autumn/winter improvement in your MPG is possibly due to the
fact that Oil companies have gone to 'winter spec' blending. Winter
diesel has up to 25% jet fuel in it (winter spec
diesel is to prevent 'waxing' at very low temperatures).
I am sure that other factors also have an influence .....
does anyone else have theory?

I didn't know that they put up to 25% jet fuel in winter diesel. I was sure that an additive was put in at a rate of 1:400.
Surely 25% jet fuel, which is really only kerosene, would mess up the engines big time.

Dear people, I need to drive a load of scouts from s/east london to peak district this Friday evening (7oct). I presume traffic will be bad. I need suggestions on routes. I thought m11, a14, a1(m), a617 west (newark on trent) past m1. What do you think? Would it make any difference if I delayed departure until 6pm? Thanks in advance. Kieran. Read more

iv got an volvo S40 P reg 1996, 1.8 engine.
when i push the clutch pedal down and release it, it sometimes makes a squeeling like sound as if the clutch cable is stressing out a little bit and the clutch feels a little bit tighter when i do so.
would i be right to believe in this? or would one of the parts or something need some greasing?
the problem doesnt always appear, only sometimes.

also, when iv done a lot of driving and covered around 40 miles in a day, the gears are a little bit sticky to change, gearstick has difficulties going into gear, i have to sometimes jam the stick into 2nd gear when the clutch is fully down.

iv herd that theres a treatment thats like grease and comes in a tube that you put into your gearbox to help the gears to change smoothly. would this be advised or can i assume that its the 'selector in the gear box.

any help would be greatly appreciated,
Cheers in advance,

hi,
iv got a toyota avensis, 98 R reg, 2.0tdi and am having a problem with the clutch.
Would anyone recommend any clutch service centres that supply and fix clutches in north or west london?

im getting quoted prices from £270 to £350, bit out of my league i recogn, but are these the going rates?

whats better to go for, recon ones or new? obviously nothing beats new parts, but are recon ones advised? -would help my pocket!

if anyone knows of anybody who has reasonable charges to change the clutch, it would be excellent to know,

thanks in advance,

It starts easy and does not miss on idle so I don'tthink it is heater plugs, but when driving off there are flat spots followed by surges. What is causing this? It's done 183000 miles.

Hi,

I've had this problem for ages, and I may have even posted here before I can't remember :-)

So, the problem is - my car cuts out (when I pull up at lights or a junction) when the engine is hot. By hot I mean having driven on a motorway/dual carriageway for some time or having been sat in traffic for a while.

Now initially it was misfiring, so I replaced the plugs, HT leads and this weekend the ignition coil. It now runs a lot cleaner but this problem still exists...

I am reluctant to go to the VW dealer (wanted 90 quid to change the leads!) - so I am wondering if anyone else has come across this problem - and if you did what you did to fix it?

thanks.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your replies - strange I wandered over to another net forum and they suggested exactly the same thing!

On a "haynes scale" of 1 - 5 spanners what are we looking at here?

I am a 2.5 er really :-)))

Dan's 306

Just wondering if a couple of litres of Veg oil mixed with a full tank of diesel will stop the car smoking when under load prior to boost being achieved (306 D Turbo, Bosch pump)

Any Advice,
Cheers

When you say D Turbo do you mean 1.9XUD or 2.0HDi?
