Hi,
I'm not sure if this is the place to put this, and if it's not, I apologise in advance. Please tell me about any related websites that I may get help from. The reason I put it here is cause it says it's a "Ford" immobisation system.
I bought a used Honda Prelude and the vehicle immobilisation system has started acting up. Basically, the engine turns, but it doesn't start. However, for some reason, it does start sometimes in the evening. I decided to pull out the wires connected to the Immobiliser, and there were two boxes connected - both had Bosch marked on them, from 1993. Between the wires, there was a "Ford" relay-type thing - It was a small yellow cube connected between the wires of this immobiliser.
Taking this all out, the vehicle still refuses to start most of the time. The Prelude is a fuel-injection version (It's a 2.0L fuel injection petrol manual "K" reg) - I'm starting to get the sudden feeling there's a third box somewhere or in some form other than a box, but I've spent three days looking for it, and haven't found it, so dunno.
How would I be able to make the car start again? I want to completely get rid of this immobiliser and probably put a more modern one in. But getting someone else to do it would cost £££...
Any help would be appreciated. Read more

Have a look inside the boxes with the Bosch markings as they were prone to cracked soldered joints which can easily be repaired. This system was fitted to many Fords of that time and the symptoms of internal joint failure were the same as you are experiencing.By the way,you need to check each soldered joint carefully with a magnifying glass.

Ouch!you should never increase the fuse rating you stand the chance of firing the wiring loom and the car.The motor or motor wiring is faulty .

Your help as ever would be appreciated.
The power steering on my golf is producing that familiar whining noise, it doesn't get any better when the car gets warm etc..
I have checked underneath and it appears to have had the power steering pump replaced and the fluid LOOKS OK (e.g there is some in there and its clear etc)
Please can someone give me a few pointers on where to go next ?
Cheers

Our old Mondeo when locked out would need the radio to be left on for 30 minutes before the new code was put in.
It said something along the lines of "WAIT 30" from memory.

My K-reg Cavalier has served me well for the past 7 years but when it has been on tick-over for a few minutes, or on startup sometimes, it smokes blue.
It doesn't burn oil when running normally, only after standing with the engine running. Valve stem oil seals? If so, how hard is it to change them?
It's always sad to leave the poor outside diners at MacDonalds coughing in a big cloud of blue smoke but it makes my young granddaughter smile. Read more
Please get your car fixed or off the road.
As an asthmatic I will not be smiling when breathing in your colourful emissions.

And a question to BR's Why is this engine described as DOHC and not DDOHC Double Dual Overhead Cam.
I suppose the 'V6' part of the engine name means that it will be a DDOHC so they just say 'V6 DOHC' which means it has 4 cams.
hi all
i have two fans on my rad ,front and rear,(the fan at the back,) can someone explain why .is one of them for the air con. the one at the front keeps stopping so moved it with my fingers and it was seized but the started to spin. and it is blowing a 30 amp fuse in the little fuse holder next to the right hand side of the rad ,there are two 30 amp fuses and its the one at the back of the box that keeps blowing...is the fan broke and causing the fuse to blow or could it be something else.
is it easy to fit a new fan .
cheers

Both fans should be running slow speed when the a/c is switched on.The one at the front(2 speed) is usually the faulty unit when the fuse blows.Replacement requires removal of the bumper to gain access to the fixings. The fan can be tested independently by locating the large 3-pin black connector that sits on top of radiator. There are three wires ;brown is the negative (earth)and the 2 speeds are black & red.
