Forum Honda CR-V
romeo156

I have the chance to buy a X reg Honda CR-V with 32K miles.

It will be used by my wife going into central london every day, will it be thirsty on petrol?

Anybody on here recommend or not recommend for a day to day car?

Thanks

Decided against the purchase. Whilst the pros are I know the mileage and that the car has been well looked after, so would expect it to be a good clean car, the cons are the fuel to drive in and out of London each day and it is bigger than my wife really needs.

Thanks for your comments though

I have a VW Golf Mk2 Driver,115k,G reg, solid reliable car most of the year round, except the winter months when the carb icing happens, where it will start fine from cold, but after several miles will splutter and lose power, then, after I stop the car for a few minutes, its all ok again.I have had some helpfull advice from people on this forum, but after checking the hot air intake flap,(which opens when I suck on connecting pipe)I was told to check following- "but is it getting a vacuum supply from the temperature switch sited on the side of the carb cover ? Simply, this switch should have a permanent vac supply from the base of the carb, and transmit said vac to the flap diaphragm when the intake temp is low. So, test for vac to switch, and on from switch when cold. If switch is suspected try car with flap diaphragm connected directly to source at base of carb - better to have permanant hot air than permanant cold." I cannot find this carb temperature switch,so where is it,and how do I test if its ok? Also how can I test the thermac switch inside the air filter?which could also be the problem?
Hope you guys can sort this one,Tony

Theres usually a 'map' of the vacuum hoses stuck to the underside of the bonnet. From memory there should be two little vacuum takeoffs from the brake servo pipe. One goes directly to the distributor, the other goes along the front of the carb to the green sphere. there should be a tee piece in front of the carb, connecting up to the choke pull down unit. the second pipe from the pull down goes to the base of the carb. Round the back of the carb should be a vac hose coming from the base of the carb which goes round to the thermac unit which senses the temp of the incoming air and actuates the warm air flap on the intake. Positioning of the vac hoses on the thermac valve is critical. If you observe (Assuming the valve is fitted the right way round!) the stub closest to the windscreen should have a smaller bore than the other, whichever way, the vac hose from the flap goes to the bigger of the two holes.
Good luck.

The Ford Mustang keeps cropping up in the Saturday Telegraph motoring section the original article telling of the great troubles somebody went to import one from America. These cars are available of the peg any colour and spec at far below the prices stated in the article from Germany 36,000 euros for a loade Boss convertible listed in Auto magazine.Intead of looking over the Atlantic it may be more benificial to look over the channel. It's now the 5th September and I haven't seen a single 55 plate. New car sales must be well down! Looks like it will be soon a good time to buy a new car if you can afford it.

In my search for a better car, I took a Skoda Superb PD100 for a 24-hour test drive at the weekend. I have to say I was disappointed! Certainly no "magic carpet" ride particularly at low speeds on poor road surfaces. Poor handling and "wallowy", so much so that it was nearly impossible to come to a stand without jerking. No engine braking worth talking about and 10 mpg less than my TDi 90 Octavia on the same roads at the same speeds. I am not surprised it hasn't sold in the UK or abroad. What is it good for, IMO, a taxi for motorway work.

Have had my 307 for a 6 months and have just started to get three audible bips when I get the first 200 yards in the car. It's a 307 2.0 (90) HDi 5 door. I can't find anything in the manual to put my mind at rest. Also any ideas on wiring problems for passenger front indicator that only works whenlights on!! Any advice/help would be really appreciated. Read more

Doors open (ajar) warning?

Doors not locked warning? (instead of automatically locking as some cars do?)

Auto sensing wipers or lights disabled?

Would some kind person please let me know where I might find the central locking control unit for a 2000 Citroen Xsara 1.6

The doors are locking and then immediately unlocking - I dont want to mess around with pulling door trims off etc I'll just disable the unlock function - but I dont know where the unit is located.

Help !

Many thanks

Hi, a few weeks ago I asked about wide angle digital cameras and Stuartli came up with Ricoh, for which I thank him very much as I now have a Ricoh GX8, which is superb for what I use it for at work. I even bought one for my business partner, who is equally pleased.

We have just one complaint and that is that the camera is not small. It is not huge, but it is the size of a traditional 35mm point and shoot film and zoom camera and does not fit into a pocket of my trousers, whereas my wife's Olympus Mju (35mm film) just about does.

So, can someone recommend a small, zoom digital camera that is small enough to get into my trouser pockets? I don't lots of programs or manual overides, just something that I can point at the family and snap away.

Thanks

Given the nature of the project involved, I would suggest a rethink of the original requirement. Its call "expectation resetting"

OK I am probably going to buy a new car soon

Likely to be something like a new corolla (probably) or new astra

I would like a hands free kit for the phone and a DAB radio fitted

I have a Nokia Cark91 car kit in my existing car which I wouldnt mind swapping across if it saves any money

SO
do I keep the toyota radio and get one of these new fangled DAB radio add on things? are they any good ? anyone tried?

or do I get a new head unit, any recommendations, as I understand some of the cheap DAB car radios are poor

What kind of radio ariel do I need and where does it go?

Do I keep and swap across the phone kit I have, or is the hassle too much, and do I get a new one and if so which one (dont really want a bluetooth one, rather have a physical connection to the phone and a car disk ariel with charging)

how much approx ? do I let the dealer sort it? or pay someone else? if so who?

midlands if you want to recommend anyone

cheers

Swapping your existing phone kit over will be a hell of a lot cheaper than a genuine Toyota kit - the basic one starts at £300 and a decent one is near £400.

If you remove the standard headunit on a corolla you will lose things like the trip computer as thats all done through the stereo - if your not bothered get an aftermarket stereo (i've heard some of the blaupunkt DAB units are quite good).

Hi my dad's 51 plate mondeo sems to lack power. It has recently been fixed for a faulty fuel pump (which causes the car to cut out at motorway crusing speed!!).

It has done 116 000 miles and has been serviced regually though it still feals flat when you accelerate hard ( like the hand brake is on??)

don't know whether it is the engine or another part of the car???

any help greatfully recieved.

It could be one of many things. The first thing I would check is the brakes to see if any of them are binding, the second thing would be the air filter to see if thats blocked and the third would be the exhaust- the cat may have disintegrated and be stifling the exhaust gases escaping.
