Interested in the views of any 1 Series owners.
Is the car upto the build/reliability of its bigger brothers?
Any specific moans or problems?

Just tested a 118d Sport and was generally very impressed but want to be sure before committing to one given the higher price compare to other very good 5 door hatches.

The looks don't bother me.

Andy I wrote this a while back -

As regards build quality I have no rattles or squeaks even with the very harsh sports suspension and have not been back to the dealer since it was delivered other than for some engine oil as I couldnt work out what it needed from the manual.

There was some bloke on Midlands Today that took a garage to court because his car was stolen while they had it. He lost because of some defence called bailment. Why didn't he just claim on his insurance?! If the garage had been negligent then his insurance company would have got their money back and he'd have his bonus back. Silly wotsit is now in debt and the garage is suing him for the 8k in legal fees that they have run up defending the case over the last 2 years.

The only question I have is why make such a fuss over it?!

I'm pretty sure they never shot him just because he was naked Zippy.

Let's not speculate.

Round The Bend

I've been looking for a trusty car with lowish milage for around £5k for my use to supplement the still awaited Grand Scenic which will be MrsS's main car. Slowly resigned to fact that a decent Pug 406 coupe was out of reach so have been checking the staff intranet site for an ex-company motor. These are mostly perk cars that have reached hand back time and are sold at near trade prices.

Anyway I saw the car (not) of my dreams this morning and have agreed to purchase. OH NO! It's a MONDEO ..... the car I've always said I would n't buy! Problem was that it is just too good a buy to miss. It ticks every box except the one marked "desire".

It's a 1.8 Petrol Zetec Saloon, 2002/52, 29k, silver, 3 months of warranty still to run all for £5375.

Collect car next Friday ... book in to counselling sessions immediately!

I agree with Dave it's most likely the trailing arm bearing that is badly worn.

Question Nissan Primera
Peter

I have just bought a 2.0 turbo diesel, S reg, 91K.

Can anyone tell me what type of drive is used for the cams. Chain or belt, if the latter at what mileage should it be changed.

Thank you. Read more

Aprilia

Its a belt on a 54k miles or 5 year change interval. Its an 'interference' engine - so the engine is damaged if the belt snaps.
The book time at a dealers is about 3.5 hours - a straightforward job that any independent used to Diesels should be able to do.

Tired and unemotional I stuck £20 of fuel in the Picasso late on Sunday night. A few miles down the road I noticed the gauge had hardly gone up at all - Even less that I expected with fuel at these astronomical prices [before anyone says it].

Just how common is it that a pump delivers a short measure? Any clues.

The station was deleted - just in case anyone else has a similar experience and wonders if it was the same place.

Remembering those lovely old pumps, I was always amazed by how much petrol they held, knowing nothing of underground tanks at that young age...

With Swedish friends informing me that the current model S80 is officially now renamed "S80 Classic" in Sweden, it looks like the long awaited new S80 isn't far off.

Sure enough, a quick web search revealed the following pictures including the first I have seen of the interior; It looks like it will have the same floating panel for the centre console as the current model S40 and V50. Despite the web sites "we're not sure" comment, it also looks very much like a V8 - and therefore Yamaha's - sitting under the bonnet.

Nice car, no doubt... That Yamaha's V8 found its way into XC90's engine bay as well. I guess the new S60 will follow shortly.

Woolies are doing this at the moment. It seems cheaper than others at £79.99, or should I be looking at a radar detector?

It is a fixed location database device. Obviously it does not work with mobilespeed traps but if you know there is a road that is prone to them then you can set the thing up to alert you of a potential trap.
