hi all,hope you can help
I have a BMW 530d,2002 with automatic airconditioning.if I set the temperature inside the car higher than the outside(without using the aircon, just on the fan),the windscreen fogs up,it helps somewhat if then the aircon is started.Does the aircon need to be used or is there another way to demist or is the ventilation system defective
many thanks Read more
Just read a review of the new Clio and am interested to see that it is available with one size of diesel engine (1500cc) which gives 68, 86, or 106 horsepower and there are three petrol engines with 75,98, or 111 and they are all different capacities 1220, 1400 and 1600 cc. Bearing in mind that the engine output is, presumably, controlled by a computer of some sort how can they get by with one diesel but need three different petrol engines? Read more
I'd guess at all diesels turbo'd but lowest power 8v, next 16v and highest 16v + intercooler.
Just a guess though!
Steve.

I agree, though perhaps 25% via ground effect would help in other areas.
The dealer assured that the noise is just normal but on cold starts especially there is what i can only describe as a vibrating type sound coming from the engine, kinda like something is loose maybe?
its a ghia x tdci 2005.
also when driving the car i have managed to stall it 3 times, 2 of them dangerously, ie junction.
does the car need loadsa gas to get going or is it my car that is messed up, if i let the car drive forward with no revs slowly the revs dip suddenly and then just before the car stalls they shoot up to stop it from stalling, is this normal? Read more
The stalling issue is a pain with these cars, put me off getting one, got a new shape Vectra instead, much nicer in traffic just lift the clutch and creep forward, no throttle needed.
hi all after a bit of trouble with clutch (slipping) i have decided to change it. went to my local parts dealer and they quoted me 35.50 for a clutch kit (by the way it is a 1.7 td isuzu unit and car is on an L plate) which was a couple of days ago. phoned them back to confirm price and they quoted me 64 quid! i dont mind paying this but i asked why did they tell me 35.50 in the first place and they replied that it was because it was an isuzu unit not GM. is there a difference? do the flywheels differ? if not can i use a clutch for a GM engine on my car? Read more
If you look at the bellhousing and it has a cover, held by six bolts IIRC,at the bottom it is GM and you can change the clutch without removing the gearbox.Otherwise it will be specific to thet engine and will have to be tackled conventionally.
Yes please Dave - that would be helpful!

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
Have any BackRoomers fitted fog lamps to their Jazz? If so, where there any complications?
The genuine Honda kits seem to come up quite frequently on eBay and I wonder if people buy the kits and then find there's something difficult about the job.
I gather one issue, is that apart from the fog lamp kits, you additionally have to buy a bracket kit which costs around £100. Read more
Yes - I'm wondering if people maybe buy the kits not realising they also need the model specific brackets?
On way to work this morning saw the aftermath of an accident involving a lorry and car. Transpires the car driver was at fault, only 17 and just passed his test recently. He was killed and two of his passengers seriously injured.
Also during the week there was an accident where some teenagers were killed down South..
My question is, how do we protect them? Is our test too easy? Are we preparing people to pass a test rather than drive a car?
I just feel it is so sad, and after having to send home some of my part time staff who were at school with today's victim, I feel we should be doing something extra, But what?
Don't want to be too specific but today's casualty was driving a group1/2 car that the majority of the BR would probably have recommended as a first car. Not a boy racer or anything like that which we may "stereotype" any teenage driver to have.
There are many people on here that I am sure will say its a free world and the ones who object to seatbelt, cycle helmet laws etc will object to more measures. But these are kids, who are naive and who are subject to peer pressure. We NEED to help them with controls.
Would it be too much to say not more than 1 litre engine? What about carrying passengers - are they able to drive and concentrate with a car full of their mates having a carry on?
I don't have an answer, but I just think that every day, there is a tragic waste of life, every day there are parents who not that long ago, were proud of their kid passing their test, and they now get a visit from the police saying they have been killed?
Sorry if this is doom and gloom but just feel we need to have some more measures to protect these kids from themselves. Read more
We should set an example! Most drivers drive like complete idiots, think they're great drivers, and then new drivers end up gaining these habits that these 'experienced' drivers have.
In my opinion I have never really been a bad driver since passing my test, although I've made a few mistakes in the past which I have learned from. However the one thing that probably saved me was following the highway code etc. (ie. not driving like an idiot).
Advanced driving would be a good idea for ALL drivers. Since getting my own car I have been developing my skills, and recently joined the IAM. I have got my test at the start of next month.
I also think it would be better to improve ALL drivers rather than just the new drivers. You can get away with just about any mistake on the roads, but if somebody else is makes a mistake (or is driving badly) at the same time then things can turn bad.
In my oppinion, in almost all accidents both parties are partly to blame. I suspect that a lot of new driver's accidents are partly caused by other drivers. I frequently see tailgaters in front of me, and then when something ahead happens they slam their brakes on. Before I know it I'm almost in the back of them. I have learnt to work around this, but I still get caught out occasionally when their driving is really erratic. Very few drivers drive differently when tailgaters are around, but I think it's important for us to recognise these risks. This would help other roads users (such as new drivers) as well as ourselves.
Restricting the engine size is stupid!
You also need to understand that people will always die in cars, young and old. Sometimes you've just got to move on and except that it's unfeasible to do anything about it. I don't want anymore of these people who start 'speed kills' campaigns just because they're upset about something.
You didn't say what the cause of the accident was, was the young driver at fault?
btw I'm 21 years old.
Golf MK2 Diesel, running fine until today, went to start and Glow plug light came on briefly then started to flash, then went out. Had this once before 3yrs ago same car, cured problem by locating a broken connection. Flashing GP light seems to indicate fault on circuit - Anyone agree. Have spent all day trying to find any other broken connections, doesnt seem to be any, anybody any ideas, this was a low import model according to Haynes,(1600 GTD) so I only have a manual for a Golf petrol.
An Amreican site talked about a faulty coolant sensor, but they were on about the 1.9 tdi, there must be a coolant sensor on my car as GP light doesnt come on when engine is hot, any ideas were it might be located.
