4-zone climate control... hmm... Does that thing *really* work ? Some say all that air somehow mixes anyway and zones actually interfere witch each other. Heh, 4 suits in a luxo barge: 1 freezing, 1 sweating, 1 wondering who the hell invented that thing and 1 actually enjoying himself (the driver I presume).

I wouldn't want to buy a car without rear vents. Never, ever.
These days even Golf V has got them and they're very helpful. Still, my mate's new Avensis - doesn't, which is just beyond me. Last month in Spain +31 C ambient and +21 C inside on both the driver & passenger's side, I've been nearly suffocating in the rear. That felt like breathing through a dirty pair of gym-socks. Hopeless, just hopeless...

My car failed its test this week due to a faulty handbrake cable. I was told I could go back to the same garage within the next 14 days to have the vehicle re-tested.

In the past all this has involved is the tester checking the items the car failed on and nothing else. However, my car had to go through the full test again, although I wasnt charged the full fee. Fortunately, it passed but its never happened before and the guy said its all due to the new computerised MOT.

Makes me think a money making scheme to take place here, fail car on one item, test it again, fail it on something else etc. etc. Read more

Question Tyre Brands
Deryck Tintagel

Leading on from my post regarding tyre for my Vectra, I looked at prices for the named brands. I then started to wonder which tyre manufacturer makes which (cheaper but same) tyre. Does anyone know of a website that gives this information? Read more

for a slightly different list check out: www.etyres.co.uk/car-tyre-manufacturers
the etyres website is a very useful, user friendly site for "all you ever wanted to know about tyres but were afraid to ask..."

Fiesta Fanatic

Hi

My keyfob has two buttons, button A for locking the doors and button B for the deadlocking system. These buttons must be pressed in succession for the car to be completely locked and armed. This worked fine until recently when a little chirp comes from the alarm after pressing button B. The car remains locked and the alarm is activated.

Referring to the manual it says that if there is a little chirp after pressing button B a door and/or bonnet/boot is not closed properly. I have checked all doors etc and they are closed. If I arm the car manually (turn the key to lock the car and keep it there for 1 second for deadlocking) no chirp is sounded.

Any ideas? I'm a little miffed!

Thanks in advance. Read more

yep, what you say makes sense... I will have a look to see if I can find something... of course a Haynes manual would be useful, but they dont make one for my model!

Thanks for the reply.

Light hearted story about attempts to reduce vehicle accidents

I used to think I was most alert when driving my old Lagonda. I put this down to interest, a crash box and fresh air, but perhaps it was also due to six pistons on a 120 mm stroke, in an engine bolted solidly to the chassis. Tractor anybody?

My car had it's MOT yesterday. It's the first one I've had since the mid 90's, as I've always got rid of the cars before the 3 year old mark.

I was not given an MOT certificate. The car is funded through a Private Contract Plan, through VW Finance. I was told at the dealership that the MOT certificate would be sent to VW Finance.

It had been a long day, so I left, happy with that knowledge, but then started wondering on the way home how I get the vehicle taxed at the end of October, and was wondering what happens if I have to produce my documents at a police station. Am not talking speeding or other offences here. You have to produce when reporting an accident too!

Surely it can't be right that I don't get to keep the MOT certificate? Read more

Happy Blue!

I have taxed two cars online now. The DVLA has a record of insurance and presumably MoT tests (although our cars are too new) and all I needed was the renewal code and my debit card to tax the cars. Very easy.

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?

Yesterday evening, Watchdog featured a story about drivers who had had been forced to retake their tests (at considerable expense) in order to regain their licences after DVLA had lost their information. This seemed to happen when licences were returned to the DVLA for a replacement photo licence or change of address. Problems seemed greatest for motorcyclists. One chap, an HGV driver was able to produce a photocopy that had been retained by an employer, but was told by DVLA that it could be a forgery - and he had to retake his test!

If you had to return your licence to the DVLA and they lost it -do you have any proof that you had passed your driving test? For that matter, if you lost/mislaid your licence, how could you prove to the authorities that you ever had one, if DVLA don't retain records?

As a start, I'm going to colour p/c our licences, just in case, but does anyone have any other suggestions for a back-up?

Or ....can someone reassure me that this is all a Watchdog induced storm in a teacup - there are no problems, and I don't have to worry! Read more

I keep a duplicate - just in case. I have had clients in the same boat as the chaps on Watchdog. I would be so cross if they lost my records. Intresting really what if your licence produced to a Court doesn't agree with the sworn DVLA Printout....just another example of a HMG quality product.

I had this problem on my 306 when it was new - I found a short in the rear light cluster on the right side- Easily opened and spotted. This was a left hand drive unit, but I think the right side rear cluster is the main distribution on all models. G'luck.

beegee

Since buying this car I have noticed there seems to be some slight engine vibration coming through the pedals, especially the clutch. It is not a great problem and the main dealer said a few mondeo owners had reported similar problems and was something to do with the " electronic management system" or something like that, and is fairly normal. Does this seem an acceptable problem with mondeos or am I being fobbed off. Its just that this type of problem never occurred with a much older rover and toyota I sometimes drive.

Many thanks for any help.
