4-zone climate control... hmm... Does that thing *really* work ? Some say all that air somehow mixes anyway and zones actually interfere witch each other. Heh, 4 suits in a luxo barge: 1 freezing, 1 sweating, 1 wondering who the hell invented that thing and 1 actually enjoying himself (the driver I presume).

My friend just gave me a lift in his big Chrysler New Yorker '98. And guess what... This car has got 4-zone AC with rear vents not only in the middle but also in the B-pillars, just like Lex LS430 ! Mind you, it's all manual, but hey - it is American all the way.

Don't know about 4 zone but the duel zone in my Omega works well. The manual says not to have a difference of more than 2 degrees C to work effectively. This isn't much of a temp difference and I have tried it on higher and it does seem to end up with one side working against the other.
I would think 4 zone would be more prone to this.
It is nice though on long runs when the driver wants it just a bit cooler than the passenger.

I was in a SEAT hire car in Germany last week. I put my side up to +26 and the passenger's to +16 and there was certainly a good difference in what was coming out of the vents. As an additional comment, and not being familiar with VAG products, I asked what engine it was when I handed it back. It seemed very lacklustre and I thought 1.4 or 1.6 - WRONG! 1.9 turbo! I got it up to 125mph downhill on an autobahn but in normal driving it was far from exciting.

I wouldn't want to buy a car without rear vents. Never, ever.
These days even Golf V has got them and they're very helpful. Still, my mate's new Avensis - doesn't, which is just beyond me. Last month in Spain +31 C ambient and +21 C inside on both the driver & passenger's side, I've been nearly suffocating in the rear. That felt like breathing through a dirty pair of gym-socks. Hopeless, just hopeless...
