Woolies are doing this at the moment. It seems cheaper than others at £79.99, or should I be looking at a radar detector?

It is a fixed location database device. Obviously it does not work with mobilespeed traps but if you know there is a road that is prone to them then you can set the thing up to alert you of a potential trap.

Woolies may be handy, or you can find them cheaper on the internet

As it happens I have just bought one from Woolies, much to SWMBOs horrer at parting with 80 notes.

However, having not been cought for 6 years I reckon my time is near, and I'd rather spend £80 on this than run the higher risk of getting a ticket or two.

BiL came close to losing his license under the totting up scheme a while ago - just a run of bad luck perhaps or maybe he had a lot on his mind at the time. I don't know.

Be warned Hugo, I have found devices like this make me complacent. I can, with all honest say that I have never "not seen" a speed camera, temporary or permanent in plenty of time to ensure I was safe.

I got sat nav, with a camera database. 99% of the time it works well, bleeping at all the right points. I got complacent, lulled into a false sense of security, and for the first time nearly missed a new camera on the m25 road works that was not on the database.

This is a personal opinion. Its cheap, some have had reports of long satelite fix times, and the accuracy of its database has been called into question.

Interestingly I saw one on sale in a Hyper U in France for ?99.

Earlier someone posted re problems even getting updates at all (maybe a computer snag?) I don't know how the sellers actually get the details of new cameras. I have an Origin and I check it for upadtes about 3 times a week and I usually get something new each time. My local garage is selling the AA road map with the fixed sites marked, for £1.99!

It's a cheap way of putting a little black box into your car for when the government implements the road pricing scheme, I suppose.
(conspiracy theory rant over)

i've had one since april and it's probably stopped me getting flashed 20 times since. only bother using it in new areas and haven't had any problems with updating.

only problem has been using it with a french car, due to the funny windcreens which block some of the sat signal. they sell an extension antenna for £25 but you can find a clear spot by moving it around.

I take it you don't have eyes or a speedometer to help?

A friend of mine had a clean licence earlier this year. A work colleague was flashed and so Origin B2s were provided to all staff. My friend now has 6 points...

Stick to the speed limit; with petrol the price it is now you'll save more on petrol than you will on speeding tickets & upped insurance.

I initially had a problem due to the heated front screen on my Focus. Inforad were helpfull and made suggestions to check the unit. I noticed the heating elements did not extend the full width of the screen and if the inforad is positioned in the lower right hand corner of the screen it works fine.

I used to have the Origin Blue i which worked as advertised. When they first started, you got £50 for being the first to identify a new camera position. They later pulled the offer and when I called them to ask why, they explained that the GATSO installers all had them and were claiming their £50 as soon as they had the nod to install a new scamera.

Now I use the Mark 1 eyeball which is much more reliable and never needs updating.

"the GATSO installers all had them"

That says it all, really! And I bet they're the worst offenders...

If you do require an aerial, they are available on Ebay for £10.99 plus £4.50 postage, which is a lot cheaper than the £29.99 for the OE item.
