hi,
just got myself a 51 reg low mileage (20k) mondeo.
only issue i have is the seats and steering wheel vibrates on the motorway at 70 and over.
all wheels have been balanced so i'm kind of stuck.
it has to be the wheels at that mileage i would of thought?
any ideas as i did notice 1 wheel had 2 30 gram weights on one side and a 30 on the other side, can that really make a difference?

I have no connection with the owner of this stolen Nova beyond the fact I was at the Billing Aquadrome All Vauxhall Rally recently where I think the car was stolen. Heartbreaking for the owner who has put a lot of work into the car. A Backroomer might just spot the vehicle if it is still in one piece. Full details here www.vauxhallheritage.com/articles/wk05-30/050725_n...p
A word of warning, if you follow the link contained in this Vauxhall Heritage article to the owner's website for even more details, the "free" screensavers ad contained therein appears to be infested with Gain Gator spyware/adware so don't be tempted! Read more
Tasteful or not, when someone's put so much effort into something they love it's absolutely gutting to see it get taken from them. Hope it turns up, but even then I suspect the thieves would just get a slap on the wrist and a week in Butlins. I'll keep my eyes open.
I have honda CR-V 2002, which has a rattle coming from the engine compartment around the alternator/timing chain area. It only appears at 1300 RPM and disappears before and after this RPM. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?
many thanks

Recently moderator Mark RBLS requested information on possible sources for a Rover 75 front bumper spare part.
It gradually emerged that Rover spare parts were becoming more difficult to obtain, although one company did reveal it was continuing to maintain supplies.
However, a letter in today's Daily Mail may well shed some possible light on the subject.
The letter writer alleges that large quantitites of spare parts are being dumped in landfill sites.
I'll quote the first of the two paragraphs letter in full:
"In view of the recent talk of re-starting car production at Longbridge, why are millions of pounds worth of new parts, including whole engines and gearboxes, being cleared from warehouses around the plant and dumped in landfill sites?"
The second paragraph includes a comment about the appalling waste and the writer then queries if the suppliers of some of the parts in question have even been paid?
Of course, as I said, this is an allegation by the letter writer concerned and there may be no truth in what has been suggested.
However, there's an old saying about no smoke without fire...

Well, it's illegal to landfill car parts, so I don't see how it can be true. Vehicle end of life directives and all that. They have to be recycled and many parts have to be treated as harmful waste even ehen they aren't.
A friend of mine is looking for a good Audi/VW independent specialist garage to service/maintain his car as he is fed up with the main dealer trying to rip him off. Needs this done sir and that and this and that and this (His words). The final straw was you need new windscreen wipers sir. He had replaced them 2 weeks previous to its service. The car is now out of warranty.
If the car was still under warranty must you use a dealership or can you use an independent as long as they use Audi/VW genuine parts or would this nil and void the warranty?
Has anybody any suggestions it must be in the Glasgow area Read more
Thanks for that. A bit too far from Buxton , where I work.
Must praise Gilbert Lawton, Macclesfield.
They sorted out my soggy comfort control module for less than the agreed price. And they were proactive with VW UK.
25% off parts and labour. So ~£215 in total. Beter than the £500 ish I was warned of.
No guarantee though that it will not recur, as checking the drains and sealing of the pollen filter is not part of the routine service. Nothing is visible peering through the little gaps either side of the battery.

I wasna fu but just had plenty.
I have a car with a personalised reg, and a new car with a regular assigned reg.
I am selling my old car and wish to retain the reg to transfer to my new car.
Do I need to do this (and have a new number assigned to the old car) before I can sell it? Or can I tranfer the number at the time of sale?
How have other gone about this?
regards Read more
If you go to your nearest DVLA local office (which might not be that local!) I think you can do it there and then, and they stamp the V5 and MOT with the new number - this avoids you having to wait 3 weeks for the V5 to come back before you can sell. Last car I bought was like this.

Is it illogical? It must be Citroen....
hi all
i have had my vectra air con regassed three times with the green dye also put in.it has took nearly four months to find the leak but finally shown up.i dont know much about air con systems so to describe it. its on one of the two valves with wires on them on a single metal pipe behind the rad running at the bottom.what are they? are they easy to fix .are they screwed in on o rings as one of them was loose slightly (green dye all over it).so tweeked it up , fingers crossed.
if it carries on to lose gas is the stuff that halfords sell to stop air con leaks any good in stoping leaks or is it best to stay away from theese products.
cheers

My honest reliable independent garage seem very reluctant to service the squeeky brakes on my Honda shuttle. They say they are fine and don't need any work. I worry about it because its used for the kids etc.
How do I know when they are really worn out? Can the brakes fail due to pad wear?
Its funny the independent seems to relaxed whereas the franchised dealers want to rebuild/service the brakes every service! Read more
Ah, a fellow shuttle owner!
They have a squeel strip that will make plenty of noise when the pads are low. Of course, that's assuming the caliper pins aren't seized causing uneven wear, as the strip is only on one pad per wheel. The noise on mine was from the rears, where rust dust from the discs had dried up the coppergrease.
However, I can't see why your garage won't take the wheels off and at least check how much material is left to put your mind at rest. Thought about doing it yourself? I simply replace all the pads every year as a matter of course, that way I know I'm all set for the next 12 months. They're only about £90 for the lot from Honda, so I don't bother trying to get the last few miles out of them.
Your garage man should also be doing a brake fluid change at the same time, but if he doesn't want to take the wheels off to check the brakes, then I don't suppose you'll be able to persaude them change the fluid.
Anyone have a rear left side interior rattle in a Mazda 2. I'm usually pretty good at pinpointing rattles and getting rid of them but this one has me beaten. Also seems to be worse when car turns left. Any help would be much appreciated Read more
I had a similar annoying noise in a BX, eventually traced it to a loose piece of sound deadening material behind the trim.
My mate has an sri astra mk4. Since the car battery went kaput recently, the central locking won't function, either remotely or via the door lock.
He's tried various methods of re-sycning the key (if indeed that is the problem), which usually involves turning on ign lights and pressing button, with no effect.
What he's been trying to find out thru various Vauxhall dealers, is whether the car battery going flat and C/L failing is a known problem. Their typical response being, "hmm, you'll have to book it in" (for various amounts of cash!).
Any ideas? Is a Vauxhall visit req'd to plug in their computer to sort this? Read more
That'll teach me to read previous posts properly.

I didn't want to start a new thread for the same sort of problem..
I started getting fairly serious vibrations when accelerating from 30 to 65 and calms down after this...
I know I smacked the front passenger wheel about 4 weeks ago..
Jacked up the car tonight and gave the wheel a spin (I'm unsure if the technical terms)
The bar/shaft that turns the wheel is making a funny noise at the joint at the engine.....
I'm looking for advice on what's broken and cost of replacement???
Crapping it as I've just spent £330 on tyres and service..
Thanks
