I have just purchased an Audi TT with light grey leather seats. I have noticed that they are slighty yellow/dirty in places and wanted to find out what the best cleaners was to use??

Any ideas?? Read more

we used a company called Corium in Leicester (got their name from our leather supplier). Advice was good, products worked and they gave some good technical advice. They supplied a clear white coloured leather conditioner (most conditioners have a yellowish tinge)that polished up and took away that 'sweaty' leather smell

Twice recently, I have seen an emergency vehicle coming up behind me, blue lights flashing, while I was in a moving queue of traffic.
Both times I pulled over left as far as possible, indicating as I did so and definitely not doing an emergency stop.
Both times the following two cars have overtaken me - almost causing an accident with the emergency vehicle.
I am afraid that a crash will occur the next time.

Should I carry on behaving like this?

That's fine if there is somewhere to pull over - the point being that there was no such place, railings left and right... and yes it is a judgement call everytime. Also, smacks of poor highway design when you think about it.

Someone has asked me a question about motorcycle insurance. It sounds a little bizarre to me but here goes:

A chap with a provisional motorcycle licence was under the impression that this allowed him to ride a 1000cc motorcycle. He is South African. In fact his licence only allows him to ride a 125.

Last year he applied for and obtained insurance. He declared his provisional licence on the proposal form (not knowing that this was an issue)and the insurance company insured him. His premium was £400.

He has tried to renew this year with a different insurer (cheaper) and they have refused to insure him for obvious reasons.

Obviously, this has come as a bit of a shock (he has been breaking the law all year...)

Having thought about it, he suspects that his insurance was never valid, and if he had an accident last year, the insurers would have refused to pay out.

Was his insurance ever valid? If the answer is no, is he entitled to a refund of last year's premium?

Story sounds a little fishy to me (was he riding a 1000cc bike with L plates?) but it would be good to know the answer. Read more

Seems to me that the insurer must have missed the ref to prov license on the form or just thought it was a mistake, strange thing though, the forms normally ask how long a full license held, surely this could not have been missed eroneously either by the insuer or the insured.

Hi Room
Living near the port of Dover I have decided the time has come to take the Mercedes Benz 320CDI over to the MB dealer in France and save myself a packet on servicing fees.

I hear that you can save up to 70% by using an approved main dealer whist maintaining your service record and warranty. When you factor in the 35% saving on disel and the wine and cheese the boat trip is paid for and im a happy bunny

Does anyone know of any catch? Should I check with MB UK first to ensure warranty will be covered/ (cant see why not assuming its an approived MB dealer) Read more

Not huge savings on everything though: I'm after a roofrack for the S60 and I'm conveniently going to Sweden next week... :-) UK price on the Volvo website is UK£81, price in Sweden is UK£71. Call me greedy, I was expecting it to be even cheaper?!

The image of the mild-mannered man becoming a demon behind the wheel may be a bit of a caricature, but it begs the question:

"Does driving reveal a person's true character?".

I think that the isolation of being in a vehicle can affect some people's reactions to what is going on around them - they feel much safer than they would be in an open environment.

I also believe that people who misbehave after drinking too much tend to reveal their true nature and feelings - normally these are contained in order to conform with accepted behaviour.

It's car park bumps again. Is it the same offence, in law obviously, to damage a car then leave without a trace as it is too leave the scene of an RTA (or RTI) in the Vic Reeves style?

Chap at work has had his car dented quite badly, and a round-robin e-mail has brought no confessions. I wonder whether a bluff of possible police action due to CCTV footage (another bluff) would flush the miscreant out. Read more

Interesting viewpoint but probably too late to change my position with the Police which has always been 'leaving the scene of an accident'

I have been bidding on a 2000 W (E46) BMW 323 ci Metallic blue in colour with cloth not leather. It has done 54900 miles. I didnt win the auction but now have a second chance offer meaning that I can purchase the vehicle for £8800 is this a good price? The vehicle has full BMW service history and is HPI clear. What should I look for if I decide to view the car. Are there any particular problems with this model.

Finally my current vehicle is a 1999 V Audi A3 1.8 T Sport which has covered 103,000 miles what would I be likley to achieve in a private sale? Read more
