Would anyone like to estimate what my car is worth as a trade in. I know there is a link on the site that you can pay for, but I have used it a couple of times and found it to over estimate like parkers etc.

Details are -

Total milage - 42000 (showing 1700 with replacement cluster)
Full service History

Isn't that what I said?

You get those "invisible post days" as well then? :-)

Yes that's right! Just got an email offering me £15 of M&S vouchers for test driving one of their cars - so booked up a Clio 182 to test next Saturday.

I assume it's open to anyone, just visit

www.summertestdrive.co.uk

to book. I've made sure i've got the email printed too, just in case the vouchers don't appear. Read more

My flatmate went along on saturday (with no intention of buying a car) and introduced herself at reception. A young salesman walked over and said "are you just here for the free vouchers, because we're really busy and you'd do me a favour not having a test drive - you'll still get the vouchers". Brilliant, register, turn up, do nothing and get £15's worth of vouchers.

what kind of oil do i need 2 use in my gearbox on a 1993 1.1s metro Read more

No Ned,

In your case, being a relatively new Metro, the engine and gearbox are completely separate.

So, engine oil for the engine, and gearbox oil for the gearbox.

I think it might be worth your while obtaining a Haynes manual, or similar, for your car to guide you in your work. Even with good intent, it is easy to cause expensive damage.

Ah, that makes it much clearer, thanks Richard and P2501 for your answers.

I was thinking that surely a leak is a leak, not a one way valve, but I have seen cars which don't start making my pressure gauge yo-yo with revving the engine until they are quite hot - so, the idea of a leak being open while the engine is running, and closing as the engine cools down (and, of course, the arguments about the high pressure in the cylinder compared with the lower relieved pressure in the cooling system), is perhaps the right one to explain this.

Thanks again,

Has anyone seen what the new Punto looks like?

I think they might be on to a winner. IMHO its a fabulous looking car, looks a bit like a Maserati from the front! Read more

New Punto isn't a replacement for the poor selling Stilo. A replacement for the latter is being engineered by Austrian firm Magna Steyr and the new Stilo is scheduled for a launch date in late 2006/early 2007.

But mystery surrounds the existing Punto. It will continue but, according to Italiaspeed.com the Serbian manufacturer Zastava has just concluded an agreement to manufacture the current Punto under license.

It's not clear whether production (of the existing Punto model) will continue in Italy or whether Zastava will export these Puntos to western Europe as it used to do with the Fiat 128 many years ago,

I have to take a group of colleagues from Derby to Basingstoke next week (probably Wednesday) leaving Derby at around 5pm. The return trip is the following night at about the same time.

The most obvious route seems to be M1 M25 M3 (I don't have an exact location in Basingstoke yet) but any opinions or suggestions for alternatives?

I loathe sitting in traffic, don't particularly break speed limits, and want the journey over as fast as possible (one of the travellers is a lovely person but not someone you want to spend too much time with in a confined space, if you know what I mean).

Thanks in advance

"Good fortune" is in short supply while the little boys are still playing with their toys bwteeen J12 and J15 of the M25, and some fat controller has imposed an unnecessarily low 40 mph speed limit. They should have left the variable limits to do their work, which they usually do well.

If and when this ever ends, centenarian Barney's advice is good, as he says at sensible times of day.

hi guys new to the site but saw a topic on caravans, DO YOU REALLY HATE US???????
I have been towing caravans for the past 15 years and have just updated to a 18' and I like to think that I am considerate enought to pull over when I can to let all the frustrated motorists fly by, I live in the great land down under and we have a great following of folk on the road we have done our bit now its time to enjoy. so on behalf of all those who tow please be patient we will pull over when we can after all we are in no hurry Read more

>>why not just stay in the

queue and enjoy the scenery??

Because we're not there out of choice. Because we're there to get somewhere, not look at the scenery.

Can anyone recommend a brand of speakers to upgrade the standard ones in my 2002 Focus?

I've just installed an MP3 player and would like a performance boost on the speakers as well - without modifing door panels etc, just a straight swap?

I'm not after ridiculous ear-bashers, but a better quality sound than Fords tin-cans. Read more

Thanks for the advice - I'll take that along to my local factors and see what they can get hold of from that list.

I've noticed a slight drop in quality from Cd to MP3, but the convenience of having 10-12 albums on one CD far outweighs it on my 3 hours a day in the car.

For the record, I also do not own an item of burberry clothing or jewellery other than a wedding ring!

Hi everyone,

Please can anyone give me some advice?

I have an 01(Y reg) Vectra that must have had a prang before I bought it. The drivers side headlight mount is cracked and the adjuster dosn't work. Both headlights are Valeo make but I can't seem to get hold of them. Are these an after market brand? Vauxhall say that they use Carrello headlights and that you have to buy the motors seperately, erm...£80 each!!!!!!!
Im reluctant to change just one side as they might not match.
If Carrello headlights are correct, does anyone know where I might be able to get them with the motors without having to remortgage the house to pay for them?
Thanks for any wisdom.

Mark. Read more

Having just had a quick search on google, Valeo have been known to be fitted to Vectras; but I recognise the name Carrello from the headlights fitted on my old Cavalier, and are used by Vauxhall in general.

There are a few places I know of that you could try for a replacement,

www.autovaux.co.uk for brand new,

or

www.dixonsvauxhallspares.co.uk (turn speakers down or right off beforehand though) or

www.vauxhallspares.co.uk

For 2nd hand parts.
