Audi/VW garage - bhoy wonder
A friend of mine is looking for a good Audi/VW independent specialist garage to service/maintain his car as he is fed up with the main dealer trying to rip him off. Needs this done sir and that and this and that and this (His words). The final straw was you need new windscreen wipers sir. He had replaced them 2 weeks previous to its service. The car is now out of warranty.

If the car was still under warranty must you use a dealership or can you use an independent as long as they use Audi/VW genuine parts or would this nil and void the warranty?

Has anybody any suggestions it must be in the Glasgow area

I am also wanting such a garage in the north or north east Derbyshire area.
A local independent (ex VW dealer) wanted to charge the same as the main VW dealer so I stuck with them.

Remember - even when car is out of warranty VW can help.
Today I am getting a goodwill 25% off parts and labour to fit a new convenience control module to my Passat.
And warranty expired 7 months ago.

Granted they may charge the same as a dealership but they want return business and a good reputation where a large dealerships up here which are mostly owned by the same company are constantly trying to rip him and others off.

These comments are in my friends opinion only.

If there are any independent VAG accessories shops in your area, ask them. That's where I found the business cards of two excellent independents local to me in Herts, and I asked for the shop manager's views on them.

Also, try the relevant clubs on the Web:

My local independent basically refused to deal with my VW while it was still under warranty.
I tried to quote the EU rules but they were not interested.
Now that my car is out of warranty I thought the independent could undercut the main dealer - but no.

Funnily enough my friend had the same problem. But he did a bit of digging and discovered that this so called independent did a lot of work for a large VW dealership close by. How can they remain independant when a large dealership has them in there back pocket. He thinks that the dealership has now bought the independant garage.

I wonder if this happens a lot?

For the poster in Derbyshire, I can recommend Moss Moor garage in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent 01782 834804. Look around the ceramic museum while you wait.

Thanks for that. A bit too far from Buxton , where I work.
Must praise Gilbert Lawton, Macclesfield.
They sorted out my soggy comfort control module for less than the agreed price. And they were proactive with VW UK.
25% off parts and labour. So ~£215 in total. Beter than the £500 ish I was warned of.

No guarantee though that it will not recur, as checking the drains and sealing of the pollen filter is not part of the routine service. Nothing is visible peering through the little gaps either side of the battery.
