I am thinking of buying a secondhand Nissan Almera 2.2 Di Sport or a later 2.2 DCi SVE/SXE. Can anyone tell me if these are chain-cam or belt-cam engines?
I believe the 1.8 petrols sold at the same time were chain-cams. Read more

Felt I just had to share this.

Today, I was going along the main street of a town I don't often visit, when I spotted about 500 yards ahead a white van with yellow markings and with the rear doors open, facing towards me. For a split second, I had the usual gut-reaction - you know, am I just over the limit, have they spotted me, ease off the speed a little.

I immediately realised that none of these reactions were appropriate - partly because it was a delivery van, but mainly because it was in the pedestrian zone and I was on foot.

D'OH!!!

MY Picasso 2.0 HDi is now almost at 60K

Any ideas suggestions as to how I should play things to make sure as far as possible that any problems are sorted prior to the warranty expiring?

For example is it a good idea to get it MOT'd? Also..

Would you say that blown dashboard bulbs and creaky seats, gearstick boot are warranty items.

Has anyone had any experience with independent warranty companies and would you recommend/suggest any one in particular?

Many thanks

I'd agree it's fair wear and tear.

But it wouldn't do any harm to go to National and have a half-price MOT to see if any somewhat more serious problems show up that would, fairly, be covered by the warranty.

Does anyone know where it's cheaper than Halford £34.99 for 4 litres ?? Read more

I always suggest the VERY best place for oil, is your local independent garage/mechanic.

As long as he belongs to Vauxhall 'Trade Club'(its free to join), he can buy genuine parts at well below list price.

This ESPECIALLY applies to lubricants, as they constantly offer as a loss leader, buy 3, get 1 free deals, of 5ltr containers.

The prices went up for the first time in years, a month or so back, but still are real value for money.

Worth thinking on.

Prompted very much by SWMBO I may spend a wad of the hard-earned on a 54 plate Volvo V70 D5S. It's up at 20k, which seems about right for what Volvo franchises charge. Not my cup of tea at all but I'll only get to fill it up.

We are negotiating, and we are at 13.6k to change with the px being a 2000X Audi A4 SE saloon (which is in very good nick and low on the miles). I think there is another 500 to squeeze but SWMBO disagrees and wants the deal done.

Any views? I don't want the hassle of selling privately due to work commitments Read more

Thanks pd - very much appreciated. Mine is a 2005 MY D5 S with 13k up.

The engineer's report says that it seems likely that the car was run on petrol at some time. Quite a few other things have come to light too and I need to speak to the Volvo dealer and the solicitor before posting about it.

Hi Folks,

I'm after a bit of advice - one of my mates had his quarterlight window smashed recently, and it needs replacement. My local scrappy has quite a few of them, but I am struggling to get the window off. They appear to be stuck on with some sort of sealant. Is there an (easy) way to remove the window?

Any advice appreciated!!

Question Ford Fiesta MK4
Topknocka

Hi all,

First post. I need some help with the airbag system on my 1997 Mk4 Ford Fiesta Diesel Ghia.
The airbag light flashes quickly 4 times, goes out for a second, then flashes 4 times again and so on.......
Reading other forum posts on this subject has helped me trace the fault to a broken cable / wire underneath the front passenger seat. This controls the seat belt pre - tensioners and is a yellow cable / wire that runs from a plug on the innermost seat rail to another plug that is under a piece of trim near the door sill. It's snapped away from its plug at the door end and the plug has been removed by the previous owner so all i have is two bare wires. The plug it should connect to is still there and connected to a wire that runs under the carpet towards the front of the car.
The bare wires are black/white & purple/white and the wires that lead off towards the front of the car are orange/purple & black/red.
Problem is, i don't know which wire joins which so if anyone has a Mk4 Fiesta and wouldn't mind helping out, can you please have a look at the wiring underneath the trim between the front passenger seat and the door sill and let me know which of the above wires joins which?
Any help you could offer would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Question Volvo V70 1998

Hello guys

Just wondering if any of you have any experience with the engine management light coming on while dirving normally with no noticeable fault. All levels are correct and all connections/fuses sound. I don't need general advice as I'm competent with mechanics/electronics - I just wondered if any of you had experience with this so perhaps I can identify a generic fault. Sorry to say it's the in laws car who've just arrived so you can appreciate my enthusiasm to make sure they get home!

Thankyou in advance Read more

There has been some comment on these pages regarding the availability, or otherwise of the Ford PSA 1.6 diesel in the Focus and C-Max. For info I noticed today my local dealer in Bristol has a new C-max Ghia CVT in the showroom. Read more

Dynamic Dave

what are these pipes like to change ?

To be honest, I've never changed them. I would have thought that they would have been plastic coated, maybe not though if they've corroded.

Hopefully someone else will be along shortly to advise?
